2:47 blew me away. Man just does whatever he wants in the air.
Gotta love the slow mo and flashing camera lights of the 80's.
Stil happens my guy
Yup.....had to do a flashback. Actually, this years was better IMO.
Jeff was better then what?
@@Bama-ou4nk It's been so long since I commented, I don't remember what it was about. Maybe that years competition? Sorry.....drawing a blank.
Dominique's dunks were all amazing to watch because he finish them with power and strength. Those were ferocious. Michael's dunks were the same because he can stay in the air depending on his elevation on his way to the rim. That's why he was The Airness and the GOAT. Both were absolutely athletic.
Most Dominique’s dunks were all the same-windmills
@m Khan 2:11, 1:38
I think dominic wilkins was not lucky because he must to challenge michael jordan in that year, if he meet the other player maybe he can win. He meet the Goat of the Goat. 😁
😂
Slam Dunk Contests back in the day were the best!!! Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins both did the darn thing. Their dunks were powerful and enjoyable to watch. I also enjoyed watching Vince Carter in 2000 and this year's Mac McClung. More NBA basketball players need to compete in the Slam Dunk Contest. Maybe next year Ja Morant will compete. He dunks during the games why not at the Slam Dunk Contest. I guess he has his reasons.
i was 8 years old when i saw this contest. am now 37. still, everytime i see this contest i got huge goose pump. both jordan and wilkins was my favourites in that era. and still until this day. in that time this contest was a real competition just like any game. they did it with authority, class and passion. nique was a real beast abusing the rim any time, everyday. u can hear the rim screaming after his dunks. jordan was a beatiful rythem with outstanding class of art hi up in the air.
God i miss those days.
flexer83 well said 👍
Dominique wanted to rip the basket on every dunk. God damm!
Shadow lmaooo 💀
On everything
😂😂😂
Yes indeed. SLO MO does it no justice.
So does Michael, too.
The day "Air Jordan" was born!!
What about the 1987 dunk contest? The free throw line dunk in that one is prob the most iconic. Tbf the Air Jordan name started in 1984/85 when the 1s came out
I've seen this so many times, but it still gives me chills.
I have tried many, many dunks over the years. None are as difficult to do as Dominique's two hand windmill. It is so difficult to get your two arms around and back up in time after bringing them so low. Insane that he makes it look so easy. There's a reason you don't see other players doing that dunk like he did it.
100 % spot on , many people comment not being able to dunk , when you have you understand the little hard bits that make a difference which is part of the reason I say Dominique was ripped off in this comp . The two hand windmill and the power of the others including the one off the board is hard to replicate.
Jump high enough and swing your arms fast
Woooord!!!! Dunker can understand how difficult it is to pass these two handed windmill that fights against your elevation and your hang time, and bringing the ball that low...plus...jumping on both feet...CRAZY
Maaaan, I've never seen anybody till now, even amongst crazy pro dunker pass this 2-handed windmill as amazingly as Nique!
Fortunately, this edition was in Chicago with the crowd pressuring the judges, otherwise, no way Nique would got a 45 on his last!
MJ could turn off gravity at will. His foul line dunks were awe inspiring.
Carl Malone
The sound of slamming on the old rims is just something different!
THIS CONTEST IS SO ICONIC AND CLASSIC
1988, 2000, and Lavine vs Gordon were the best!!
Lavine and Gordon are both no-power dunkers…
Back when there was a rivalry in the NBA. Everyone is friends now and wanna live with each other in a 1 room appartment lol
The Legend so true
Everything is pussified and feminized in modern society. (It’s been done on purpose)
Lol so true bro
My man here speaking phax!
wth you talking about. They're still rivalries in the Nba today. What's wrong with having a friendship a player can go at any time and for example Kobe.
@@steviechampagne You talking but I bet you the same guy screaming foul in a pick-up game.
After the trash of a dunk contest we just had, this rings be chills seeing Dom and the goat go at it, just amazing.
this is so bad
You all are hyping this off reputation not merit.
The greatest slam dunk competition ever.
who hear after Aaron Gordon vs Derrick Jones Jr
Sure am....reminded me off this 88 set, had to come back for comparison.
It happened in the past. Of course I've heard after it.
Mike n wilkins dunk are classic...now its 2017 n still the best 1 on 1 dunk contest..
lavine gordon ftw
2000 and 2016 definitely have an argument
@@vstax2165Lavine no power dunks, lol.
jordans jumping just looks different its hard to describe it just seems slower and more graceful
One thing I really liked about Jordan, he always looked graceful like you said.
Dunking lightly, dunking with power, shooting free throws, 3 pointers. No matter what, he looked graceful.
No disrespect to ny other players but a lot of them look more powerful than graceful and I always liked Jordan's ability to do both simultaneously.
He has a supernatural aura.
So he did the free throw line dunk twice in the same contest and still won
Andrew Saul Zach lavine did about 3 three times too
ImNotTheFatheerGaming He did, just not the same dunk like mj did.
Frobe Bryant if I remember he either did a windmill from the free throw line twice or between the legs from free throw twice either way he still repeated the same dunks and won too
Andrew Saul Wilkins did same dunk 4 times
dtanktdtank naw but he did do one that was the same
They need to bring back these rims to the dunk contest. Sounds awesome
So, Nique one hand windmill dunk 50. Two handed windmill dunk 45.
MJ free throw line dunk: 50.
Free throw line dunk again, exact same dunk twice in same event: 50
Share. Nobody is as gracefull as the GOAT, MJ.
Nique was robbed here. The 45 judges gave him should be a 50. A 48 score is enough for nique to win but instead they gave him an unexplainable 45.
He did his 4th windmill dunk, not that impressive from a judges perspective.
Exactly, was doing the same theme of dunks, Jordan had more flair and creativity
TeeGrizzleyBear yeah but he did a two handed and from everything else they where giving 50s that should’ve been a 50 they are just up Jordan’s but so far they probably didn’t see the dunk
@@aaronchavez4894 jordan had two creative dunks
@@aaronchavez4894 he really won off the same dunk judges today would give that a 40 for lack of creativity
AMAZING DOMINIQUE!!! I THINK HE SHOULD WIN
After like 50 windmills?
I love those days
He has several addictions: cigars, gambling, golf, and winning.
Golf and Winning are good things.
He loved to gamble during playoff games.
Back when you had role players and stars in an event and they all brung their A-game.

they need to the sounds from this in to 2k. make dunks sound sick.
please tell me ya'll saw MJs elbow in the hoop on that reverse one handed double clutch as well as having to duck his head so it didn't hit the rim @1:49
I think the one before he missed and had to make sure this one went down.
Elbow reverse dunk baby.. I saw it too.. Mj is too good.
Crazy dunk
And he almost his head with the ball too
One of the best dunks in NBA history .
He literally fly from the FT line.. wow... Still wow till now 2018..
Doddy BJ Zach LaVine did it way better people are 360 from the line now his wasn’t that impressive he didn’t even jump from the line
@@Bama-ou4nk It was impressive in 1988, dude. And no one is as graceful as Jordan in the air. No one.
@@AllinGold2give me ja. Where's ja!?
While many players can do these dunks today, Michael Jordan did those dunks in the most stylish way.
Jordan's flying style is unparalleled even to this day.
That dunk @1:45 is epic. To me it’s one of his most impressive ever
Some of the best slam dunk contests ever was this one.
Dominique was doing same dunk in different place...
Kobe Best so was Michael by today’s standard this would have been a boring dunk contest
Best shoes ever made on Jordans feet right there. They dont make them like that anymore, only copy the look but the cushion and feel hasnt been recreated since the originals he has on and the 1994 retro copies. I miss them a lot, wish I could go back in time and buy more and bring them back home.
Those are classics but the shoe technology put in basketball sneakers today blows away that shit, there is no aspect of that shoe that performs better than the shittiest basketball shoe today
That rigged 45 on Wilkins sounded so ridiculous imo... cRAZy dunk
2:07
Not only the best dunk of this contest, the best dunk I've ever seen, at least until the 2018 contest
You mean the 2016 contest
bro that’s such a basic dunk
@@Muaaz15 Thanks for the ignorance, kid
The best possible execution
I hate how nobody appreciates drexler's dunking greatness because he wasnt a dunk contest dunker. He was an in game dunker and one of the best at it
Carver Pierce top 10 dunker ever
My favorite dunk contest involving my two favorite dunkers, Dominique Wilkins and Michael Jordan.
im still amazed with that free throw dunk..
We will never forget him ...
How he played Nice 😍🌹🌹🌹
that is the Mike classic slam dunk / from flying in the air from the fail line that's why they call him ( air Jordan ) !!🏀👍😎💃
Michael Jordan's Hangtime Flyingmotion and the Acrobatic in the air is Not possible for He human being He can hold the Ball with his big hands and Do what ever He wan't i See many people Do the Foul line Dunk but He had a something special with a Double clutch swiching legs Holding the Ball omg!! And the sideway dunk in the 1987 is the Best dunk ever look at the Hangtime look at the Flyingmotion and look at his head above the rim (sorry 4my Bad english) but Jordan in the Air was realy realy special thank you Dr.Evin J.
Loooool 😂😂
Очень красиво и зрелищно , особенно Майкл Джордан и Доминик Уилкинс. Супер звезды и супер легенды мирового баскетбола и НБА.
Back in the 80s, the judging for the dunk contest was based on execution rather than originality (kinda like gymnastics). In 1984, Orlando Woolridge merely got a 48 for the very first between-the-legs dunk in NBA All-Star history.
I thought he had a 42.
Edit: Nevermind it was a 48.
They were definitely doing some ice skating moves! Double toe loops!
Remember on Jordan's last dunk from the free throw line he missed the first one,and then on the 2nd try they give him the 50.Remember back then you didn't get a 50 score for getting another try Jordan had some homecooking that night cause it was in Chicago. Dominique Wilkins really won that dunk contest. I remember like it was yesterday
@@Dalvecc Except your first sentence already applies to the unedited 1987 dunk contest (though it was a Kiss the Rim dunk), which took place in Seattle. And it definitely did not result in any controversy. While judging can be influenced by any factors, they were called replacement dunks because perfect scores were still reachable.
@@shiranuiaensland1442 what are you talking about "unedited 87 dunk contest". I'm talking about the last dunk of the contest from the free throw line,in the year 1988
I like the old videos
First of all, I think Michael Jordan is the GOD of NBA
Jordan a Legend 🐐🏀
Aaron Gordon vs Zach LaVine still the best contest in NBA
OG Cryin Face Meme No man LaVine's dunks is very esthetich and beautiful
The dunk that created Jordan Brand Logo (The Jumpman) never happened in Slam Dunk contest. Unless you are blind. That Jumpman created in Nike Jordan ads video.
Julian Draxler luckily i've read it first before i comment the same thing.
+Brian Fantana 3:33 jumpman logo. The brand logo is just a bit exeggerated
OG Cryin Face Meme the Jordan logo is based off of a Jordan brand photo shoot of mike doing a ballet pose with the ball lmao
12yrs old & waiting for history on the Wheaties boxes to literally to unfold!!!!!
History!
That was fxxkn amazing
Imagine being there for this
Dunkers can understand how difficult it is to pass this two handed windmill! Bringing the ball that low fights against your elevation and your hang time...plus...you can't go that high jumping on both feet...CRAZY
Maaaan, I've never seen anybody till now, even amongst crazy pro dunker pass this 2-handed windmill as amazingly as Nique!
Fortunately, this edition was in Chicago with the crowd pressuring the judges, otherwise, no way Nique would got a 45 on his last!
Starks ' s dunk is the best dunk of all time 🤾💥💥
'Nique's two handed windmill >>>> omg
Jordans under the rim, one handed reverse >>>>> OMG
Just watch their dunks from 2:15 to 3:39... GOD DAMN!!!
those dunks today would be a solid 8 lmao
Bryan James today the focus more on using props than the actual dunk
Alejandro Jr Ayala yeah. Shits sad
Dude look look at the Hangtime look AT the Flyingmotion IT is Not the Same Jordan's flying acrobatic and sideway leaning dunks no Living human can IT Like the Goat There is no way!!!!
@@nanu4754 let me know when they can do Something better than Zach lavine and Aaron gordons dunks. Even the trash dunk contests we had were better than 99% of them back then
@@MannyParadisee I bet you believe every player before 2000 was plumbers right?
3:28 incredible
No props. No celebrities. No cars. No bs. Just pure creativity.
the did the same dunks over and over
FYI: These dunks were rare at the time.
Them guys had real hangtime
not quite. there is no player on earth besides MJ that can do that dunk at 1:45 . he jumps from one side ball in one hand head touches rim, brings ball down around other side of rim and places complete forearm in the hoop, pulls arm out, lands like a cat, complete control. Easily the greatest dunker in history.
here after the 2020 slam dunk contest ! what is considered spectacular has truly "evolved" so to speak. nothing will ever top how Michael Jordan literally flies through the air though. Vince Carter is another high flyer. Dominique should have won here in my opinion though. Michael is more aerial but Domonique slams dunks with such power!
Best slam dunk contest of all time 2000!
Vince Carter!
Not the best slam dunk contest but the best show by 1 person
No! All Vince Carter's dunks in 2000 were done before, only the 180 degree turn with a windmill finish was 1st if I am not mistaken!
Those were the days...
Grown men ball, listen to the power of those dunks, todays small ball 3 ball shooting, free throws seekin, traveling, no defense playing players wont last a day in the 80s league!
Sure buddy. Keep telling yourself that bs.
3:29 jordan head above rim mid-dunk from the free throw line. he had rumored that he would try a 360 from the free throw line but i think he wanted to make sure he made it so he went with the double pump free throw line overhead dunk (meaning he didn't dunk the ball until he was under the rim). phenomenal dunk.
True his hairline is atleast 2-3 inches above the rim. Thats a legit 44 inch on that dunk.
Basketball wasn't very famous in 90s in Spain, but Jordan's free throw line dunk was known by everyone
That 45 for Wilkins was daylight robbery it deserved a 50. Mj came with 2 dunks to the competition - a float and a sidewinder. Wilkins was more creative and more aggressive he should have won it
Watching this after seeing the 2022 dunk contest
3:18 that camera lady nearly prevented MJ from making that classic dunk..
Even Brent Barry could repeat the free throw Line dunk. Dominique Wilkins Performance was completely outstanding, he was the true Champion of this Contest.
Ever since I was a kid I still can’t figure out why Wilkins dunks were so overrated! Nothing special at all
@@aronhw
your oppinion.
And here 1:03 we see the symbol of the legendary brand 'Jordan'.
That's not even close to the Jumpman logo. www.nicekicks.com/court-rules-nikes-jordan-logo-not-violate-copyright/
U can really tell the creative juices was dwindling down there
1:51 jordans head literally touches the rim as hes still in the middle of his dunk
legit 42 inches dunk on that one
M.J dunked with style.👍
It has been nearly thirty years.
01-29-18.
Nature Boy Ric Flair was there supporting Michael Jordan and on the TBS broadcast of that Slam Dunk Contest he said that Air Jordan was the best player in the NBA
The greatest pro dunk contest hands down! They was on another level that day.💯🏀
The 2016 dunk contest in the best ever by far
Ufff, tremendo
What made this great was the rim seemed a little loose, so you could hear it after every dunk. Also back then before cell phone cameras the cameras even from the reporters had flash bulbs. That background light made it look like some movie shit. The dunks were actual dunks not gimmick dunks.
came all the way back to 1988 dunk contest because idk wth i just saw in this years 2022 contest
GOAT
I think the greatest irony is that Mike did this in the road uni
Back when dunks were iconic and epic. You could hear them trying to tear the rim out!
That Joka Jordan could FLY
Jordan did the same 2 dunk , 2 times.
That was 4 dunks and each 2 dunks are the same
Air Jordan! GOAT
Even Dominique Wilkins lose his dunk are still incredible
Niques dunk @ 2:49 was the dunk of the night. Jesus.
Windmills and Jordan's foul line dunks. That's it
haammer MC 360 tomahawks, two hand windmills, head and elbows by the rim, actual SLAMS. They had grace, power and respect what you talkin bout?
This was 1988 what do u expect 360 windmill dunks or what
Dominique Wilkins really won the 1988 NBA Slam Dunk contest! There was no way that Dominique Wilkin's last dunk should've scored a 45, that was Wilkin's best dunk. If Dominique Wilkin's last dunk was rated a 50 like it was supposed to be, mathematically Michael Jordan couldn't have beaten Dominique Wilkins in the 1988 NBA Slam Dunk contest.
Wilkinson center Wilson Also went to Wilkinson middle school
1:50 in slow mo is an awesome dunk
Awesomely video and that music epic please Tell me The name of this music
That two-handed rock-the-cradle dunk deserved a few more points, but so did 'Nique's two-handed windmill. That was his trump-card, but I guess it didn't work because he used the one-handed windmill just before.
MJ was great, but the 45 for Dominique was criminal.
JORDAN🔥🔥
That Jordan dunk at 1:43 is underrated af.
ThePeaceKeeper23 I agree, his head is at the rim and his entire elbow is basically at The Rim when he jams it, kind of like that Vince Carter dunk where he hangs on the rim by his elbow, except Jordan did it off a spinning reverse dunk. Unbelievable elevation
Imagine what dunks we could’ve witnessed if Jordan had practiced for the dunk contest and put that 48 “ vertical to better use . And the great possible dunks we never got to see manifest from the goat.
Dcox720 I agree, especially with his huge hands. As spectacular as his dunks were, it's crazy to think that his ceiling was way above that in terms of his physical gifts. He could have gripped the ball in one hand like it was an orange and done some much crazier stuff than he actually did, like held his arm extended straight out and down so the ball was down by his feet while he was flying through the air, and then he could have slammed it at the last minute
