Spud was unbelievably inspirational. I was cut from my high school team - coach said I was too small at 5'9. But that didn't stop our intramural team from beating our varsity team in a pick up game. Guess coach was wrong!

Great video! He was so much fun to watch! I followed him throughout his career and remember watching the NBA dunk contest the year he won it.

There was so much room between him, the court and the rim, it almost appeared as if he were flying. In fact, he should've been given the title "JUMPMAN" instead of Jordan ;-)

I wanna share a story with you. There was a VHS that you could find in video clubs in Greece, which amongst other NBA goodies, it had Spud Webb's sensational 1986 slam dunk championship performance! And a friend of mine thought Spud Webb's dunks were special effects! He literally couldn't believe the dunks that he could pull off!
Great to see the these old clips from my childhood. I remember Spud very well. He was a key player that defined a remarkable era. When you think of 90’s greats, Spud Webb is definitely on the list.
Anthony "spud" Webb, what's one of the main reasons why I started thinking in my younger years it's because of him, Spud Webb thank you sir for being an inspiration tell her that you have touched including myself
Back when the ACC was king, I was growing up in North Carolina. I saw SO many incredible players go though the elite basketball schools in the ACC but few had left the mark that Spud did at NC State. He was 'must see TV' before there was even such a thing.
Being from Maryland I got to see a lot of ACC games with Spud and Mugsy. We knew Spud could dunk in college and it was exciting watching the little guys play well. I didn't know they would have such an impact in the NBA. When Spud was in the dunk competition I remembered being happy for him but when he started pulling out these clutch dunks you knew you were witnessing a magical moment. For a guy that size his timing had to be impeccable in order to pull of some of those dunks with no margin for error.
I remember watching Spud when he played in college and we would always go wild when he would dunk! The main reason he won the NBA dunk contest was because he was so short that when he jumped it looked like he was flying (his feet were like 5 feet off the ground! The judges were freaking out when they saw this. Martina Navratilova was a judge and she mentioned this in an interview after the contest.
I remember that dunk he made as if it was yesterday. I have told many people about it that have never seen it. I still think that might be one of the greatest dunks ever made. Bouncing the ball on the floor having it land on the iron and bounce back and catching it and dunking it. It was a thrill just of see it again. Thanks for the post.
I stood next to Spud at an Operation PUSH exhibition game around 1987 in the old Chicago Stadium. I don't think Spud was 5'7". More like 5'5". And thin like a child. But he dunked over Kevin Willis during the game...although Kevin obviously let him. Kevin was so huge, he could have knocked Spud about 25 feet. I ran with a kid from Argo/Summit (southwest side of Chicago) who was smaller than Spud, looked like Spud, and could literally jump over you. Amazing athletes. But to make an impact in the NBA suggests Spud Webb was a true freak of nature with tremendous talent.
Spud Webb was not only short he was small 133lbs. That's totally different that a lot of other short players. Nate robinson for example was 180lbs, big hands, big feet, long arms. Spud was literally the size of a child.
I've enjoyed watching many players over the years, but Spudd and Dominique have always been my favorite players. I've been a Hawks Fan since 1983. Thanks for making this video.
Grew up in Atlanta watching and loving him in that Era. I went to a basketball camp and Spud was a celebrity coach for my team for two days. I will never forget Him. Hope he makes it to HOF
I remember this kid!!! he was GREAT and him being short was actually an advantage!!! While the big guys were busy up in the stratosphere doing whatever, he was down below running circles around them.
Thank you so much for honoring Spud. It was such a great time to be a Hawks fan. My boss had tickets and I think that we went to about half of the home games. Dominique, Willis, Doc, Tree, Konkac, Livingston, and Spud, with Fratello running the show. We didn't win them all, but always were in the hunt.
Man I was at that game in Atlanta when Spud dunked on the whole Laker squad! People stood and you couldn't hear in there for 5min!!That was Kareems last game in Atl. They had a ceremony b4 the game to recognize him. That was a cool ass memory. Thanks for the nostalgia!
I first saw him when he was playing with the Rhode Island Gulls, and Manute Bol was his teammate. I went to a game to see Manute, and I thought it was so nice that before the game they were letting the ball boy shoot some hoops with the real players. Them Spud started dunking during the warm-ups, and my jaw hit the floor.
Thanks to my father who followed all things sports I heard about the remarkable Spud Webb winning the slam dunk contest in the 80’s. For some reason though I though he was some historical figure having achieved his greatness in the 50s or 60’s. Now I know it was 1986. Thanks for the video.
I'm so glad that I was born in 1982! The 80's and 90's was the best year's of my life for basketball. These era's actually taught me how to play the game. Webb to us old young heads lol, has not been forgotten.

Anthony "spud" Webb, what's one of the main reasons why I started thinking in my younger years it's because of him,
Spud Webb thank you sir for being an inspiration tell her that you have touched including myself
SPUD WEBB define gravity with his dunks🏀
In 1987 Muggsy Bogues was 5'3 and the Bullets took him 12th overall.
I grew up on that team as a Hawks fan!! Thanks for the memories!!❤
Spud and mugssy were an inspiration being short growing up as much as mj was.
Back when the ACC was king, I was growing up in North Carolina. I saw SO many incredible players go though the elite basketball schools in the ACC but few had left the mark that Spud did at NC State. He was 'must see TV' before there was even such a thing.
I remember watching him win as a kid, amazing athlete. Salute to you Spud Webb.
The best of all short playeres!!!
The very best
Thanks for the post.
love your content man !!! very informative and cool to hear about the players we grew up on
Never forgot about Spud or Mugsey, but I did forget about Boykins...
Spud needs to be in more conversations. 🏀💯
He definitely does not get the credit he deserves
Spud was just a big problem to everyone who played against him, He was so fun to watch, Thanks for the highlights spud!
Spud Webb was not only short he was small 133lbs. That's totally different that a lot of other short players. Nate robinson for example was 180lbs, big hands, big feet, long arms. Spud was literally the size of a child.
💯 Facts....
Goat!!!
Unbelievable athletic ability!
Never see another!
🙏🇺🇸💯!!!!!!!
The most impressive dunk to this day!
It’s not the size of the man it’s the size of his heart.
I’ll never forget him. Stood right next to the man, I’m 5 8 and there is no way he was 5 7. Loved his game.😊
So...are you saying he was taller or shorter?
@@boondockskitstv397 He was shorter. Maybe 5'6" at most.
@@forestgump8357 yeah he was 5.6 now even shorter
Somewhat unrelated but I’m 5’7” and find it funny how many guys I’ve met that insist they are 5’9” or 5’10” are actually my height.
That's an outstanding young man, both on and off the court. Continued blessings Spud!
I was 5’7 in the 7th grade. Spud Webb inspired me to jump as high as I can🤙🏾
I remember the shoes with the toe platforms that would train you to jump like Spud Webb. Dude was an incredible athlete
Muggsy was a treat to watch!! I'm 6 foot and can barely touch the rim without the ball ~ but my excuse is I'm as white as Bill Burr. 😂
I've enjoyed watching many players over the years, but Spudd and Dominique have always been my favorite players. I've been a Hawks Fan since 1983. Thanks for making this video.
Imagine if he was 6’6
Even 6’3
Grew up in Atlanta watching and loving him in that Era. I went to a basketball camp and Spud was a celebrity coach for my team for two days. I will never forget Him. Hope he makes it to HOF
Spud was not 5’7”. I’m 5’5” and met him and we were eye to eye. This makes him all the more amazing.
🙄 for real bro, it happened, I swear
Yeah he was definitely not 5"7 I was thinking more like 5"3
But 5"5 sounds more like it . He was amazing for sure
I remember this kid!!! he was GREAT and him being short was actually an advantage!!! While the big guys were busy up in the stratosphere doing whatever, he was down below running circles around them.
Man is an inch below the average height and these guys are acting like he was 3 feet tall.
Man, I was just thinking something similar to that.
He was 5'7" dunking on guys 6'7" and higher in the physical 80s and even.90s. That's the point.
How tall are you? Can you do any of his dunks? STFU 🤡
That's a dam big difference it's the same as saying 4 or 5 inches don't matter she loves it. Nah g it matters facts
4:42 so this is what Doc used to sound like
And Muggsy is even shorter, by 3 or 4 in
Thank you so much for honoring Spud.
Many years ago I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with Spud, we had a deep philosophical discussion. He was truly a humble guy!
I saw him play as a kid at UK. Ill never forget it. Thank you for the memories.
It was fun watching Spudd play...lots of heart, the consummate team player
Thanks to my father who followed all things sports I heard about the remarkable Spud Webb winning the slam dunk contest in the 80’s. For some reason though I though he was some historical figure having achieved his greatness in the 50s or 60’s. Now I know it was 1986.
Thanks for the video.
Loved watching him play. And that dunk contest. Is one I will never forget.
I subscribe for the quality intro! Can’t wait to watch more! Avid basketball
connoisseur
I'm so glad that I was born in 1982! The 80's and 90's was the best year's of my life for basketball. These era's actually taught me how to play the game. Webb to us old young heads lol, has not been forgotten.
저 시절 NBA 경기들을 주한 미군 방송 AFKN으로 보면서 자란 우리 세대들은 행운아들이었다.
can never forget him. ppl like spud gives hope to the short guys that anything is possible.
Respect! Spud was a fan favorite everywhere!
