I would say their alternative stage was during the whole meddazaland and pop trash days... The Big Thing album was all over the place, but they had a electro rock sound to it on some songs... which worked much better than their current album, which I didnt really care for.
this album sounds more like late 80s club/dance music. Their alternative/New Wave stage was definitely the debut album, then they went into pop with Rio.
@@NintendoPsycho There are still some good tracks in there. Not every album has to be a banger from start to finish. Hell, even the Big Thing album wasn't all that great, comparatively. I give them credit for trying new things
They were super awesome in 1988/89. Saw them twice in those years and still some of my favorite concerts ever. Worthy farewell to the 80s. Respect to the ladies, couldn't sing their part without laughing all the time.
Whenever I think of the Duran gig I saw in Düsseldorf in 1988, I think of the exact moment when All She Wants Is launched into Planet Earth. Big surprise that night!
@TheDoheneydrive ..u are just SO wrong re the music..Saw them twice in this period - awesome live. Big Thing - woefully underated album...one of their most cohesive with a very distinct sound and strong songwriting and melodies. Prefer it to Notorious. Commercial success waned by this period because sadly many fans thought and still think DD should be remaking Rio with every album...
I really miss the days when DD had a REAL guitarist instead of the presonality-less session musician they have been using for the last decade or so.. I will take Andy or Warren over Dom Brown any day
I do wish they still had Warren... he is a guitar god to me... i loved his style back when i was listening to Missing Persons before he ever joined up with DD.
No es warren, andy dejo la banda despues grabar el video a view to a kill y se volvio a juntar con duran duran (estando con John en power station ) para el live aid del 1985 después volvio a principios del 2000 para la reunión del grupo...
I watch this practically nightly in 2024. Helps me wind down for sleep, go figure. 😂
Best lineup, with Warren, Sterling and backing vocal ladies!
Simon was the Man in the 80s
I love how different Duran has changed over the years. this is their "Alternative" Stage :)
