I read a metaphor recently. Health is your car; the doctor sits on passenger seat; you drive. As the driver, you can certainly listen to the suggestions or the passenger, but eventually will need to take the decision of how to drive and its responsibility. Similarly, listen to the doctor, but take your own decisions and responsibility.
Before starting a "ketovore" diet in May 2024, my blood pressure was hovering around 140/82 on average. I had white coat syndrome, so it was even higher when measured in my doctor's office. By removing most carbohydrates, refined and natural, I saw my blood pressure quickly lower to 125/70. Now after 8 months it is averages around 117/68. I did also add a garlic supplement for awhile and now nattokinase, so those might have helped as well.
How old are you? older you are the harder it is to accomplish lowering your BP. when I was early 50's it was easy, now, at age 66 not so easy, I'm doing same things, its not working nearly as well.

Nearly three months into the carnivore diet with daily intermittent fasting, and the results are life-changing! Here are my numbers: * Weight: Down 30 pounds * Blood Pressure: Improved from 139/90 to 123/73 * Glucose Levels: Dropped from 123 mg/dL to 102 mg/dL * Ketones: Now at 3.0 mmol/L * GKI (Glucose Ketone Index): 1.8 This combination has truly transformed my health and my life!
Try removing intermittent fasting and notice that your numbers will hold and your mind will be clearer. The literature shows intermittent on the whole isn’t helpful
When you become more 'ketone sensitive' (better at using them for energy) , the 3.0 may lower .It seems quite high for a meat based diet ,imo. 0.5 -1.5 is considered therapeutic ketosis .
Your video suggestions did help; thx! I've been studying and using HeartMath, it helps, too. BP just now 108/77 HR 72. Despite being good at home, white coat readings in the Doctor's office caused me to stop taking it in that setting. My doc is okay with that, so I do just as you suggest. He gets my KardiaMobile 6-lead reports and my BP/HR results. Your channel is part of my plan to stay healthy. Thank you.
I did the grip exercises for months and didn't notice any changes. However my job requires a little bit of grip strength and I usually get grip exercises during work on most days. Another theory about why this works may be how the benefits of BFR (blood flow restrictive) training can benefit the cardiovascular system. Gripping may be restricting the blood flow in a similar manner.
I always gathered (from several sources of information) that it's beneficial to breathe IN through the nose, and OUT slowly, through the mouth, with an exhale through a smaller exit, as if you were saying "oooo". Lately, though, there was advice to breathe in AND OUT through the nose. It had something to do with preserving Nitrous Oxide, which helps with blood flow. If someone could straighten me out with this info, I'd appreciate it. BTW, the 4-4-8 method feels great (but...I need to get a blood pressure monitor!), and I feel better! THANKS. 👍
Thanks for this Dr. Brewer. I had very bad sciatica where I couldn’t even do a heel raise and at time I started do deep breathing. I combined it with a mindfulness script which i listened to. I found it to be highly effective in treating the sciatica pain and at the same time it really helped to reduce my BP
My wife has read a book called "How to prevent (and revert) Heart Diseases," written by a U.S. famous cardiologist. I think the book's name was exactly this, but I'm not so sure. It was simply life changing for the family. Only by what she told me was already life changing for both of us.
I'm 67 and was on blood pressure meds until I lost 50 pounds on carnivore diet. I also do the Wim Hof breathing technique and take cold water showers every morning. My BP is typically 5-10 points below baseline.
I had attacks of hyperventilating for years, as I was a nervous child. At twenty seven years old, I had gall bladder surgery, which resulted in apnea, which wasn't diagnosed until 30 years later, I developed Afib, from not being diagnosed sooner. I asked my Gastro doc, if my symptoms could have anything to do with my vagul nerve, and he said no, but, I felt the fight or flight syndrome had something to do with controlling my stress level, and sleep apnea. I have HBP, and try to control breathing, and this method is easy rptomremember, and can be done anywhere, so I will follow it and, hopefully it can help with the Afib.
@@freewillchoice8052 It depends. If I'm sitting on the couch relaxing it could be 5 or ten minutes. If I'm driving or at a stop light and think of it probably a few minutes at a time. I don't make a big deal out of it each time which helps me want to do it as often as I think about it.
Humming may be good but nitric oxide is actually a free radical…..and contributes to metabolic disease. I know many will be surprised and/or argue with me but do your research before doing so.
I have been humming and chanting for 50 years. I used to hum to my babies and can even cause cats to walk away from each other who are getting ready to fight by chaanting or humming. Dog barking at your heels...just hum and keep walking.
I do enjoy my bread and butter. I have almost given up processed and ultra processed foods (just having them three times a month) and I have reduced sweets to Friday evenings and Saturday day time. For my bread choice I use Izzio organic sourdough (actual fermentation) bread. It has just wheat flour, water, sea salt, sourdough culture, and enzymes. No cellulose, added sugars or or seed oils. I eat it toasted with grass fed butter for the C15, and I lose weight (eating two slices 4-5 days weekly.
White coat hypertension 😮 I have something like that I mean when i was a child and a teenager I used to blush a lot and my heart would start pounding whenever I was addressed by my teachers. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure when I turned 50 but I believe i did have it way before. Even now whenever i want to talk in a meeting at work I still don’t feel comfortable. Neither my doctor nor I could find the root cause of my BP especially that I exercise 3/week, don’t smoke nor drink, no junk or processed food. I m not overweight. Maybe sometimes I get stressed at work … I wish someone could help me get rid of my BP medication cause I think I might do without it Thank you doctor for this interesting video ❤

Thank you Dr Brewer, you have provided and guided us with excellent wisdom on living healthier in a dangerous processed world. Since going carnivore my BP (and other measurable lab factors) have improved immensely and now BP is completely normal (similar to yours you showed in video).
I do the isometric handgrip exercises, aka "ball squeezes". These and isometric exercises in general are nitric oxide releasers and have been shown to lower blood pressure in studies. I also do the progressive relaxation technique if I'm having a hard time getting to sleep.
For breathing I have been using the Elite HRV app for almost a year. You can setup the desired breathing pattern, follow it visually and or by sound and it can monitor your heart rate while you do it.
Strange but true my BP goes sky high when I go to the clinic to measure it. And I'm a nurse! But I've been wondering about that. Maybe it is high and I need to increase my BP meds, just a little bit. But it is okay at home when I'm relaxed. Very good review and info. Thanks Doc!
I found that red light therapy or dry sauna up to 20 minutes lowers it based on research and personal experience. Also, hydration with the proper electrolyte ratio as well. Magnesium is a mineral that helps with blood pressure. It acts as a natural calcium channel blocker.
Another doctor youtuber said that both arginine and citrulline can generate unwanted and harmful by product. Myself isn't a scientist but that AI agreed with that observation. Will be great if Dr. Ford can comment on that.
I am 66, took my blood pressure tonight. 102/61. My secret is 40 years of cycle racing and training. My blood sugar was checked yesterday at 5.1 mmol / litre and my resting heart rate can get down to 45 at the moment, not quite at my fittest. Tonight I did 1 hour on zwift at aerobic threshold ( 170 bpm ) and averaged 25.2mph average, over the full hour, burning 777 kcal in that time. Any type of breathing technique won't remove any arthosclerosis you may have, which is the main worry with high blood pressure ? A life long healthy lifestyle with exercise will reduce it's development and recent studies are indicating that high intensity exercise done over prolonged periods may reduce it.
It's like saying the man who invented jogging died early. On the whole high intensity exercise is good for you. Like I said a lot of my aquaintences of a similar age are obese, have diabetes or dead. I'm not and am the fittest, slimmest person of my age that I know personally. Heavy breathing or whatever this guy seems to think will right the wrongs of a sedentary lifestyle is wrong.

Thank you for the wonderful advice Dr Brewer. I do have White coat syndrome, as well as potassium deficiency which makes my blood pressure stay high and resistant. If my potassium levels go over 3.5 I come back to normal. Since 7 years they couldn't figure out why this was happening to me. They pretty much checked all possible causes hormonal or the other. I am shocked by ASPREE ,and as of 2022, they no longer recommend or even approve / think a baby aspirin is helping or preventing a heart attack! I actually saw a cardiologist because there's so much heart disease in my family history and both grandparents, my dad's all his siblings dropped dead in their 40s and 50s from myocardial infarction. All 7 cardiologists said yes. Taking a baby aspirin is good for you. The cardiologist put me on bisoprolol and rosuvastatin. So far, it's been 2 yrs, I feel good . I am in Canada, but I don't know if USA Dr's are discouraging it,but their not here.

I do deep breathing, I exercise, I eat a low carb diet, I have a good weight, do not smoke, a glass of wine once a month or so, but still high systolic frequently (not always, so not a candidate for meds). No idea what is wrong…
Sounds like you and I have the same problem. I've pretty much tried everything. Don't need to lose weight at 107 lbs, don't smoke, eat low carb, exercise daily, very little alcohol, 1 cup coffee a day, no junk food, and a laid-back personality. I take supplements that are supposed to help, ie magnesium & fish oil, CoQ10 etc. I still average 150/75. Every once in a while, out of the blue, it'll be perfectly normal, but I have no idea why because I haven't done anything different! Strangely, my husband's BP is always perfect even though he's got high sugar and A1c, smoked for years and is a big boy at 6'2, 245 lbs. It's a mystery!!
Potassium. If yours is low or on the lower end of normal try eating more potassium rich foods. I like pistachios and potatoes because they have a lot of other great nutrients too. Pistachios have great iron content too. Also vitamin B 1. I use suppliments for this.

Yes. Structured Breathing works. But only for two days. Same practice, but the BP came back up. I'm eating clean, plenty of protein, low carb, no smoke, no alcohol. 72, exercise daily, sleeping ok What am I doing wrong?? Thanks Dr.
Dr Brewer, when I had large heapful two tables spoons of sauerkraut (costco), plus salt roasted chickpeas - my blood pressure was raised to 160/95 in 2-3 weeks. I was always 115/78. I was thinking to increase my vitamin k2 since I am mostly vegetarian 😀As a result of these two daily intakes, I had a weird afib type situation that landed me the hospital. Fortunately the Nuclear stress test came in normal. Wanted to share, fermented foods can and do raise blood pressure if taken in higher amounts. Especially with high sodium. I totally concur on the high carbs do increase BP. Intermittent fasting with going vegan for just 15 days had wonders on my lipid levels, insulin and BP. My problem is how to stay consistent with diet and caloric intake. Love your videos, god bless!
Just a suggestion which worked for me....meat at dinner and increased my magnesium and potassium supplementation and took it with my vitamin D and K2-7
My waking blood pressure is 110/70 but as soon as I drink my tea it goes to 130/90 so I’ll usually do my doctor appointments in the am and will hold off on tea til after. Also carnivore has dilated my blood vessels to the point I’m extremely veiny.
Supplements increased my blood pressure. Nitric oxides (redbeat juice etc) decreased my blood pressure but only momentary. Restricting NaCl, table salt, works best for me. Using an salt with 50 % PotassiumCloride has the most impact on me. From 140-150/95-100 To 115-125/75-85
I can’t be sure, but I started isometrics a few months ago and my “cold hands” has improved immensely. This is important in a location that is currently -28 C with windchill (which is normal for here….). My technique is just pulling/pushing the hands apart/together.
Hi Doc .. I admire you're videos and have been watching them for a long time now .. I really have a question or rather a topic on which you could actually make a video and clear the doubts of many .. this is in regards to measuring blood pressure of people who are morbidly obese .. like my grandma .. they did not have an appropriate size of cuff to check her blood pressure and i have seen this with many people weighing over 120kgs or so .. hence i would like to ask you of a way to monitor BP for people who are highly obese so that they can keep in check and save themselves from issues
I know that I do not get enough potassium. When I get the additional potassium my body needs, it brings down my blood pressure. I also think that it helps my insulin resistance. Thoughts?
Doc, I do 5 minutes of alternate nostril breathing before I meditate. That way I'm already quite relaxed and breathing slowly before I even start my meditation. It works pretty good for me.
@REL602 she also cut out seed oils, fiber, and all artificial ingredients found in other foods. Seed oils being the biggest along with sugar, as you mentioned.
I drank about 4 cups of hot Cocoa ( unsweetened cacao) with a spoon full of honey and it lowered my bp from 140 / 80 to 106 /66 in about an hour.. Stayed down through the late evening at 129/70.. Maybe trade this Cocoa for my morning coffee
Dave Yes water .. But use caution... It lowered my blood pressure.. but increased my heart rate substantially.. So dont over do it.. I have a low heart rate... went from about 60 to 90.. Dr Ford Brewer probably has an opinion on it. He. is a very smart guy!! 😅😅
I think you should look further into the current research on isometric exercise. I won't suggest that it replaces resistance training, but I think it's more effective than you may understand.

Then I probably need to breathe this way constantly while driving. 😀

How long do you do the breathing exercise each time?
@@freewillchoice8052 It depends. If I'm sitting on the couch relaxing it could be 5 or ten minutes. If I'm driving or at a stop light and think of it probably a few minutes at a time. I don't make a big deal out of it each time which helps me want to do it as often as I think about it.

Crazy as it might sound humming causes the release of Nitric Oxide, and not only lowers blood pressure but increases your innate immunity.
Humming may be good but nitric oxide is actually a free radical…..and contributes to metabolic disease. I know many will be surprised and/or argue with me but do your research before doing so.
The Yoga "Ooommmmh" seems to support this
Inhale raises systolic and exhale lowers systolic… makes sense as humming is exhale
I have been humming and chanting for 50 years. I used to hum to my babies and can even cause cats to walk away from each other who are getting ready to fight by chaanting or humming. Dog barking at your heels...just hum and keep walking.

I found that red light therapy or dry sauna up to 20 minutes lowers it based on research and personal experience. Also, hydration with the proper electrolyte ratio as well. Magnesium is a mineral that helps with blood pressure. It acts as a natural calcium channel blocker.
