@@KilroysKartography Thank you so much... with a bit of detective work and looking at your node graph I was able to work it out.... Great stuff by the way.
Hey, I've been looking for something like this for forever! Thanks for uploading this and awesome video quality. I have a fantasy map that I have been using for my novels for about 10 years now and was recently interested into transforming it into something like this. Is it possible to keep my mountain ranges where they are at? I have tried using the heightmap export in wonderdraft (which is where I created the map), but I cannot get the effects I need. They almost seem to be randomized
You can! Gaea is used by the video game industry to create their landscapes. It's going to take me some time, but I will try to put a tutorial together for importing into unreal engine 5
@@johnmonkeys1272 I'd recommend joining the Quadspinner discord, there's a few people discussing issues like this. The first thing I'd try is making sure you're drivers are up to date. This is the downside of working with freshly released software 😅
If you want to export a png directly from Gaea rather than follow the blender workflow, you can open the 2D viewport, and there is a little save icon at the top of it
@@KilroysKartography Thank you ♥️, but my problem is that when I go to the contract, I do not find options to change and save the file in (terrain) format, only there are no options such as png or exrs.😓
Around 22:45 you create the sat map for the shore and then say "connect to the previous step" but I'm really not sure where you are taking the out from the satmap to?
Sorry this node graph was hard to follow, I do a better job in later videos 😅 This needs to be dragged into the combine node where we added some flow details, the one I selected at 21:20
@@KilroysKartography I figured this bit out but my final node has the rivers still visible going through the oceans. Would you be kind enough to share the final G file? Reverse engineering what you've done would be easier than starting the video from scratch, which, while amazing is quite lengthy
@@KilroysKartography I started again. I even placed the nodes in exactly same place you did just so it was visually easier to follow. However, when doing the tree texture at 36:30 it seems to be applying it to the ocean rather than land. You implied just before this that one of your masks was wrong. What could be the issue here?
@@bladewraithThis could be one of two things, either the mask needs inverting, or more likely the inputs to the combine node are the wrong way round. Let me get the file and share it here anyway to help
I figured it out. For anyone else who has this issue go back to the trees node itself and adjust the altitude at which trees appear so they don't populate as low as the sea.
I've uploaded the files for parts 1 and 2 here: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ugEKP985O_MHtN1lebuoUvZCZJzynmcN?usp=drive_link
Wow, this is insanely impressive. Feel proud about the art you are able to create!
@@DaFloove thank you for such kind words 😊 Super motivating to read!
Absolutely! Very excited to see what’s next
please continue this series like adding multiple biomes and stuff
Great suggestion, I'll add that to the video where I trace map features from the 2D map for exact river and mountain placement etc
@@KilroysKartography
Oh, that's awesome
Just great! I am really looking forward to the workflow for recreation of existing maps! So excited 😊😊
I'm travelling for work at the moment, but I'm hoping to get parts 3 (blender) and 4 (existing maps) done by this weekend 😊
A great tutorial alas the cut during the lake colouring kinda through me :( with the adjust node mistake

Yes absolutely! I'll be covering this in a future video, it requires a slightly different workflow in Gaea2, and more tracing in Photoshop
Wonderful tutorial! One thing I want to ask is that can I use this kind of map for video games?

I love your series but struggling to get the software going! I can only run it if I boot up diagnostics and do it in safe mode. Any tips?

@@KilroysKartography I've found if I use the diagnostics.exe then run in safe mode it works!
please upload scene file for checking..
I will work on this once I've finished the final video, thank you for the suggestion
I would like help on how to save a PNG file in the free version please
