    Hello mate, thanks for sharing all your findings. Many garages need too watch your vidsos, alot of faults boil down to old school trouble shooting and research to find the 20pence item that has failed, rather than replaceing entire units worth many hundreds of pounds, with the problem still not being cured. Hi SiRobb. I did everything like You in this video. I also clean contacts with contact cleaner, put everything back together after about half an hour when contact cleaner evaporate and went for a test drive. But it is wors than it was. The car has no power when press pedal harder, the revs rise but nothing else. And I got message engine service required. Where I was wrong?? I also have noise when remove oil filler cap and my vakuums are OK. I tested everything from Your videos, I change all engine mounts, the hoses are OK, vakum pump is OK. I did not test only turbo actuator cause it is too hard too reach.

    • @sirobb
      @sirobb  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, you can't avoid testing something because it's difficult to reach so you may have to take it to a garage with a lift.
      If there's a loud popping noise, you need to check the vacuum system again.
      Live data showing MAF and MAP readings will also help a lot.

    hello how are you, i have a problem and i hope you can help me,
    I am not a mechanic but my dad is a mechanic. Two days ago my dad bought a 2004 xc90 D5
    But he bought it on the grounds that it does not work and he wants to fix it. The annoying thing is that in Syria we do not have spare parts for cars or professional technicians. Even my father deals with old cars that do not have a computer. Regarding this car, its previous owner said that he replaced the turbo, but The engine torque is still weak, today my father checked the large pipes connected to the turbo and found that they were not installed in the first place!! The strange thing is that this sensor that you showed in the video was connected to a tube only from the back of the turbo, but the other tube was not there at all, and we do not know where it goes, and my mother tongue is Arabic, so I find it difficult to search, can such a piece cause With the loss of engine torque, can it be dispensed with and just repair the big turbo pipe seals?
    Please, I am waiting for your answer, I am sad about disabling it and desensitizing it by the previous reformers

    Great video :p Out of interest, if the BCV is stuck open would you expect an over boost condition conversely, if it is stuck closed a underboost condition?
    The TCV solenoid just before this system could also get stuck open and closed, what would be the symptoms of each solenoid being stuck open and closed is what i guess im asking :p Would be really helpful for diagnosis in the future.

    Hello SiRobb
    I am hoping that you may be able to help me with an ongoing limp mode problem with my xc70 d5 2004 .
    I took the car to my independent garage to have it checked , they found the following codes codes .
    4405 E C M E G R = Valve flow too low .
    6805 Boost pressure control has faulty flow .
    2503 Fuel pressure is too low .
    they also mentioned that could possibly be faulty fuel injectors ,or fuel rail . I CHANGED THE BOOST CONTROL VALVE, the one next to the air filter box , no change ., no change
    I they removed and cleaned the E G R valve ., no change , they checked the vaccum hoses as well
    I then took it to Volvo hoping they might have some previous knowledge of this issue , they wanted to replace the turbo but would not guarantee it would solve it , the service chap suggested that it could be worth checking and cleaning the interior of the turbo as the vanes do stick sometimes . the same codes were reported by them also .
    Took it to my independent who did this , said it was not very dirty and was sticking a little , no change .
    I then took it to another independent for a third opinion , they did not find anything either , but the car ran fine for about six weeks after they [ fiddled with it ] then it started again .
    I went back and while checking again the guy noticed anther valve behind the e g r pipe .
    I looked at your videos , which are very helpful, i spotted the cleaning of the other valve and thought maybe that is the problem .
    Took it there this morning , valve removed nothing obvious , cleaned replaced and still not running .
    I am about 600 pounds out of pocket so far and cant see an end to this , a new valve from volvo is £ 150 , as you can imagine i do not want to buy it if it is not the problem .
    When the turbo is working, sometimes the engine feels like the power is rising and falling , sort of a surging feeling ?and not a smooth increase in speed
    Any thoughts will be much appreciated .
    Regards Alex

      Your turbo VNT is controlled by an electrically powered servo motor so you need to view the full movement of the actuator rod whilst revving the engine.
      Also check for air leaks in the intercooler and intake pipework.

    Hi SiRobb - I have a 2007 V50 2.0 D. Recently it has had the starter replaced and since that, the turbo doesn't work, leaving the car working, but tardy. The garage won't look at it again. Looking at your video, it seems possible that he simply hasn't reconnected the rubber hose you first disconnected (or possibly he has damaged it). Is there any comment that you could offer that would help me try to rectify this ? Many thanks if you can. Regards, Jol

      +Jolyon Yates Your engine is different to the one in this video and not every turbo is controlled with vacuum and a valve like this so begin by finding out how your boost is controlled, then work back from there.

    • @sirobb
      @sirobb  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes if the VNT remains in the high boost position when it should be returning to low boost there will be a mismatch in the expected data which could trigger a code and limp mode.
      Same with a boost leak in the pipework or a split in the intercooler or the EGR not functioning as designed.
      All of the expected air flow and boost levels needs to match the ECM calculations.

      @@wigglysmigfoddleNo problem. The vacuum VNT testing video is here th-cam.com/video/NxmjRaiqeAk/w-d-xo.html
      The actuator must hold vacuum and move the VNT lever through its full travel and return.
      Sometimes, doing this test alone can be enough to free up a sticking VNT.
      Euro 4 VNT is moved by a motor but the same full travel and return needs to be possible for correct boost as expected by the ECM.

    Hey SiRobb, could you please help me. I have 2003 Volvo s60 D5 96kW. Engine runs excelent, and power and delivery of it is normal. The vacuum system is not leaking, because I have sealed the hose going to the engine mounts, like you shoved in your video, so I do not have any poping noise from the engine. The only things that bothers me is that car tripped a message : Engine Service Required. And I have seen on my little scan tool (ELM 327, and inCar Doc app on the phone) that I have a code P0244- which is related to turbo solenoid (bad connections, vacuum leaks etc.). I have cleaned the little mesh on the turbo solenoid on the top of the solenoid. I also cleaned the oil separator and just donbe the regular service and changed the fuel filter. I have done this yesterday and the message appeared 3 months ago after I pluged the hose going to the engine mounts, which were leaking.
    I have aslo seen this three codes on my scan tool along with the P0244 I was talking about. And the last time I was checking the codes I did not have P0244, just thesee that I still have now.
    P0267- cylinder 3 injector circuit low
    P0087- Fuel pressure low
    P0094- Fuel leak small

    • @sirobb
      @sirobb  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You said that you currently don't have a P0244 but you do have fuel codes so you deal with the active codes first.
      Also, get the MAP and Intake Air Temperature readings on a cold engine with engine off and ignition on then get the MAF, MAP, Intake Air Temperature and fuel rail pressure readings at idle then see what maximum figures you can get for the MAF, MAP, Intake Air Temperature and fuel rail pressure reading during a drive.
      If you use Torque Pro, you can use the high/low gauges to record these figures.
