I find it fascinating I can transfer files via ethernet from my Windows 10 main desktop to my WFW 3.11 computer from 1989...

The Windows 95 command to check the network from the command line is winipcfg.

@@OzSkunkworks Sorry. When TCP/IP is installed, you can run winipcfg from the "Run" command on the Start menu. ipconfig is installed for DOS.

Nor rc, nor skype or any other compare with it. It has a good quality, no lag in the games, no internet lag, no resources hog. And doesnt demand a dedicated and complicated to configure server.
Unfortunatly its what we got now...
riot.im is an alternative. Trading off complication (arguably, it's very small the amount of complication a server requires) for lack of security, since you're trusting Discord with all of your information.

Windows 95 uses winipcfg, not ipconfig.
You want to know what's cool and would be fun to play with in a video? Windows and Mac (pre-OSX) cross-platform networking. Windows NT 4, for instance, can do Apple File Sharing, so that a Mac could connect to it like it would to another Mac over the network. You could also experiment with networked games at least as far back as Doom and Duke 3D.
Loading of all previous Windows versions benefiting greatly by the usage of SSD. Windows Me absolutely rock's. EMM386 work's flawlessly. Only issue graphics cards in old laptop's that use UMA share graphics. No EMS support. Some of the best DOS game's use this important memory function set pageframe address.
This was awesome - you should definitely try setting up some server level networking (NT 4.0 etc).
You should be able to run any software that only depends on the files in its installation directory through a UNC connection like that. That kind of software isn't really installed on the computer and is portable so running it over the network is exactly like running it off of a removable media device. Other software that drops a bunch of .dll's all over the file system and creates keys in the Windows registry don't work remotely like that. You'll need a machine running Windows Server 2008 with the Terminal Services and Remote Apps roles configured to do that but that's getting a little...Sysadminy
win95 is lit and by far had the most nostalgic startup sound.

I've done this with both of those operating systems it's just basic windows networking you have to use an administrator account with a password. Works the same way on windows seven and on windows 10 actually. It's just that the settings are a lot easier to get at in later versions of Windows
In case anyone cares you need to use winipcfg on Windows 95, not ipconfig.
Well, I was recently amazed about my PowerMac G5 with Tiger, Leopard and FreeBSD. Funny thing that you can install Mac Apps between OSes. I have installed SW from Tiger (running) to Leopard (just installed on partition) and backwards.
True, you can do that if the app uses Mac OS X's default package install process, and of course with drag-and-drop apps as well. Handy if you want to make an external boot drive with some apps installed.
Definitely give NT 4.0 Server a try, setup a Primary Domain Controller, and a stand alone server on a separate machine if possible for you. Also having a Backup Domain Controller allows for you to have them restart on opposite schedules without disrupting the built Network Domain. (To do auto-restarts you need to install the Option Pack +one along with all SP’s) you can also give Exchange Server 5.5 a try with NT!

Also, Enabling SMB 1.0 on your Windows 10 machines and any NAS systems you have will allow for easy file transfer between modern machine and your NT Server, from there grabbing them off with a 98 machine or Etc is a piece of cake.

You can probably run Quake II. Change your Explorer settings so you can see file extensions, then click the EXE. TYhe only reason a program won't run is if it requires a helper dll rhat's loaded into System32 on one machine but not on the target machine. I use LegacyDoom, from my Laptop. Samed thing happens with my Plex server as did your Doom and Music player, if I lose my connection, Plex will play out the remainder of the buffered media. We set up a Windows 95/98 network for a Lan Party at a Net Cafe Mech Warrior II tourney. Both systems network well, actually. That was back in the late 90's.

Idea: Run Age of Empires on the 95 Machine from the 98 Machine's network drive, then run Age of Empires on the win 98 Machine from the same files, and finally try to launch a multiplayer game with the two.

Mgamerz All I know is that you can still download windows 98 updates that were released from Microsoft. Unless they changed it as of late. Not updated anymore obviously but old updates maybe.

However, 1.8-1.11.2 work fine with Java 6 u15. (The latest one for 98 is 6u22 tho)

Dude, you are accessing UNC shares of each machine, right click on the share on the guest machine for each and map a network drive, I think you'll have more luck running stuff if it's actually mapped as a drive.
Yes but how did u set the network up .. I have 98 and 95 machines connected to the router but network neighborhood says "unable to browse the network" when I click om entire network

winipcfg will get you what you want in Win95; ipconfig wasn't always available (and I cant remember why now)

Hi, Druaga1, can you please give an ISO image of your Windows 98 SE? I searched on many sites, and I find only fakes or just Windows 98 with an additional software.
On my computer with a Pentium II is Windows ME, but as for me - it's too cool for my Pentium, so I want to put Windows 98 SE. :D
Check WinWorldPc - they have legitimate ISOs saved for archival in a whole bunch of different formats. Not cracked, so if you have your own product key you can use that.
WinWorldPC even gives you product key since microsoft officially doesn't mind freely distributing keys and isos for anything prior to Windows XP.

m$ actually doesn't consider them abandonware, they just don't care enough. Only OS they've distributed for free was MS-DOS 6.22, they gave out the source code a few years back

There is no reason in brurring out the MAC addresses
there is - you could spoof it, hack something on a public hotspot, and then Druaga would have problems because of LOGS!

Well, you could find out the vendor of the network card. And if you find out the serial number, you may be able to trace the card back to its owner.
what would stop you? besides that, instead of connecting to a hotspot, you can connect to some kind of inside corporate network.
