Zizek successfully argues many key points, the most pertinent is that Assange exposed the US government’s nefarious actions, not to hostile regimes, but to their own people.

Yet he neglects the most important one. I mean here we are, as always discussing the punishment of a man who revealed war crimes, while no one is even giving the people who committed the freaking war crimes a thought. When is their trail due i wonder? Nobody ever talks about that anymore, especially not the media. The are oddly enough more concerned with the implications this case has for the freedom of the press...

Silence is a form of complicity. Navalny was not a fool to return to Russia, he knew well what his fate would be. The difference is that we are talking about him, the world knows of him. He wasn't even the 2nd most popular political option in Russia! After Putins party the 2nd most popular is the communist party (by far). Navalny's party was a distant 3rd and does have massive ties to NATO and US military and intelligence agencies. They were never gonna allow a sleeper agent to run their country. It's just delusional to expect otherwise. This is not a case in which the issue discussed is freedom of speech, freedom of the press or criminalization of journalism. The most fundamental question in the case is whether Julian Assange is a human being who can hold rights (including the right to practice as a journalist and not be extradited to a country that treats him as a political enemy) or an "inanimate thing " which England can freely use to expand and reinforce its privileged diplomatic relationship with the USA. Not framing the case correctly is a way of allowing the English Supreme Court to dehumanize Julian Assange, I think. Thank God Zizek isn't a lawyer. He would likely undermine Assange's defense.

Aren't War Crimes considered to be one of the worst crimes around and one that a government who committed them supposed to be deeply ashamed of? It doesn't even seem like this is the issue at all. Obviously, this seems like just a way for our government and military to turn the tables on Assange in order to ignore these crimes and turn him into the real criminal. This all doesn't make any sense? We posted a Folk Song on our channel called "Please Set Julian Assange Free", that it is getting hardly any traction. I would love it if people would listen, because in the lyrics we try to state his case for freedom.

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, in which incidents exposed by Wikileaks took place, have already been forgotten by the American public. It's ironic that Assange may end up imprisoned for life because of matters that few people care about anymore in the country that wants him punished.
Julian Assange is not a citizen of the US and was not residing on US territory when he carried out the activities that have upset US authorities. Any legal action against him should be taken in the courts of the country where he was residing when he did what he did. It is an important principle, and one that is widely exploited by shady entrepreneurs who set up their businesses in countries where they can't be prosecuted for anything. International law is not so kind to whistleblowers. If the US can exercise legal terror against anyone anywhere in the world for any reason, other countries will follow suit. Vladimir Putin has issued arrest warrants for foreign nationals he doesn't like. He is only following the example set by The United States.

Short answer: no. Long answer: The two names mentioned were Bushmaster7 and Crazyhorse15. "Bushmaster 7" was the callsign of AH-64 Apache crew. "Crazyhorse"was the Joint Terminal Attack Contriller at Tactical Operations Command post. JTAC picks targets and prioritizes them, giving clearance to "engage" to crews. No one will ever know the names, identities , and locations of service members. Army Inspector General investigated this action and found no wrong doing, so no further records exist.

Julian Assange needs to be judged on the distinction between a "civil disobedience action" vs a "whistleblower".
If you break law as a civil disobedience action, you do not expect to be exempt from legal penalties, simply because you did a "good" thing in your own estimation. You expect to voluntarily accept the penalties as a sacrifice that you make.
It is not automatic exoneration because you claim to tell "the truth" and feel that the public has a "right to know". As a consequence of your actions, intelligence sources might be compromised, leading to their death, or to loss of other, vital intelligence information that affects national security.
If you are revealing information about illegal activities that are a violation of the Constitution, then you are a more bona fide "whistle-blower", who should be covered under whistle-blower protections.
Julian Assange seems more problematic in this regard than, say, Edward Snowden.
Not to mention that Assange has a whiff of suspicious odor as a possible Putin stooge, whose "martyrdom" is promoted by Russian trolls, with the Left being "played" by forces beyond their depth.

4:15 Zizek's remark on a 'deal' with big U.S. newspapers (which should redact and black sensitive information before the releases of leaks) is misleading. WL started 2006/07 as a platform for 'an uncensorable system for untraceable mass document leaking' (self-description from 2010). That meant: many of the leaks were published firstly on Wikileaks' websites, and not always in cooperation with newspapers, so the documents included not just informants' names, but also other sensitive personal information like social security numbers, medical information, credit card numbers, and even details of suicide attempts - they were NOT ALWAYS carefully redacted / blacked before release (as Zizek suggests) - which is probably justifiable for the good and necessary thing of transparency and clarification of war crimes etc. It's horrible we live in a world where the US government constructs a 175-year-case out of this.
But concerning journalistic standards Wikileaks had an inconsistent editorial policy, management was too much relying on Assange himself, its advisory board was purely informal and didn't even meet regularly (which comittee is Zizek speaking about?). I'm not creating myths, read what Daniel Domscheidt-Berg and many others from WL team have written on such cases of criticism. Sadly, this important criticism is completely overshadowed on the scandalous treatment of Assange in the last few yrs...

Very concerning sure. Sharp truths. I see many issues that concern our world are not a pro US or anti US platform, they are not one nation specufic issues. While US is ahead in human right abuses, the others are not far behind. This criticism apllies to all.
I throw many uncomfortable facts on social media, I can always see henchmen are not the bigger criminal, they do the ugly job, the guys hurt are not the henchman, it is some one else who can afford henchmen, who wants his ugly job done.
Do the big guys want complete silence from the aggrieved/socially active persons? Here in India, any rich man or powerful beauracrat from any country can get scores of henchmen for minor rewards. I completely agree, truth really is the first war against dark might, the facts does divide the world into opposing camps, a silence does help black souls to pass as normal harmless kind.
Truth and fact does divide the world, the afraid or disturbed know they are a wicked minority. Truth is an judgment of sort, they want to avoid judgement.
