This came out so wicked awesome! I'll be honest your whole set up inspired our build for 2017 in our garage! Like a mini stage show! Your esthetic is eye catching and reads so ZOMBIE Bio Hazzard! Love! Thanks for the inspiration!
This is really great work! I haven't done anything with pneumatics yet, but have worked with animatronics a little. I'd love to build something like this for my zombie research facility, but I'll probably have to work up to it in stages! Your set up is quite impressive and very inspiring :)
Absolute love the entire set up. Just got my package from Hi Rez designs and starting to plan it out. I'm overwhelmed and in over my head...but in an excited way. Will you be doing a run-down on the inner set up?
I could, but my chamber is in the back of a storage room, and I'm not sure how quickly I'd be able to put one together. Did you buy just the video, or did you purchase all the hardware directly from Hi Rez? Send me a private message and I'll help you the best I can.
Curious if you happen to remember what you used for your smaller screen readout? Definitely a lot of options out there. Diving in head first this year so I'm definitely on the green side of prop building.
Go to EBay and look for old headrest displays. The quality isn’t that great, but you don’t need it to be with a screen that small. They are becoming harder to find. You can also look on Amazon for video monitors (I think it’s about 7”).
nice work. this has been on the honey do list for two years. what size is the small vitals screen. also what size pneumatics did you use and where did you get them. awesome job!!!! thanks for the help
The small vitals screen is a 7 inch screen (salvaged monitor from headrest--go to Ebay) and the pneumatics are 3/4 inch x 1 inch stroke. You can purchase these at any internet store that sells pneumatics, but Frightprops is a great place for many of your home haunting needs.
Great Job, This has been on my list for a few years, was thinking of going with the unit in a 55 gallon pail but after watching yours I am back to full size unit. Where did you get the video that plays on the small screen ? also love your attention to detail, with the oscillator scopes and other stuff in background, All around AWESOME job!!!
First, thank you for the GREAT job you did on this project! Like with all of your projects that I have seen you do a first class job. This sort of project has been on my radar for sometime now and after a very messy divorce I am ready. I was thinking of doing my build using extruded aluminum...any thoughts on that? Another thought was a 'fist' that dents the prop with the first hit, I have done something similar with another prop. I would love an open box tour of ZCU if you ever decide to make one! .....thank you!
Thanks for the comments! Yes, it's probably about time I did an open box tour. The company that sells the video asked me not to when I first did it, because they didn't want people to be able to build their own prop--they wanted people to build something similar (which you can see a lot of on the internet), but figured most people were not skilled enough to pull off what they sell for $6,000. But, I think the time has come to do just that. So, I'll make a video. I think using extruded aluminum is a great idea, but it will cost you a bit. I'm thinking the type that they use for mini stage lighting etc. would be really cool. I do like wood because you can fabricate almost anything and attach just about anything to it very easily. Also, I'm intrigued by the idea of using all aluminum for the frame etc. Keep me posted!
I purchased the Zombie Containment Unit DVD and the Hi-Rez decoder. How did you connect a DVD player to two seperate TVs to play the Readout screen and Zombie screen? I can not find any documents to help with the set up.
There are two separate digital video players. One player handles the status monitor and the other handles the main monitor. They are linked, so when the prop is triggered, the video on the main screen plays, and a different video (in sync) plays on the status monitor.
Great job! Is the “metal” edging around the monitors and the corners of the unit wood that’s been painted silver? If not, what is it? What’s the stroke on the pneumatic cylinders? Thanks.
What size monitors did you use? Looks like maybe a 27 and a 7 to me. Did you buy the media players and relay controller from Hi-Rez with the videos or did you roll your own? I may try using a pair of Raspberry Pis and a modified version of OMX Player for the video playback. Thanks!
You're right on with the monitor sizes. I used Hi-Rez Design's products. They have worked flawlessly. A little on the expensive side, but worth it. They have great customer service too.
Thanks for the answers! My build is coming along nicely now. The paint job is going to make or break my prop. Hopefully this is the last question, what type of flexible hoses did you use and what are the fittings that the hoses fit into on the front of the unit? Thanks again.
I think I used hoses from a sump pump hook-up kit and some of the fittings they included in the kit and some other PVC doodads. Sometimes I just walk around Home Depot aimlessly looking for inspiration in everyday doodads. I like that word, doodads... good to have for home haunting.
Fantastic Job ! I was just wondering the dimension of the unit and the size of your monitor - doing my own this year and wondering how big your containment unit was - thanks
Believe it or not, they sell them at auto part stores. www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b/custom-accessories-3126/truck---towing-16781/trailer---towing-16648/trailer---utility-lighting-25179/interior-light-17677/e1e239e6aff3/custom-accessories-led-lights/23702/2619491?pos=3

There are three options, red, blue, and green.
Not for sale at this time--sorry! They are super easy to make yourself though. Go to the hardware store and pick up some PVC fittings and try creating something that looks similar.
Nice work !! The prop really turned out fantastic !! I made one about 8 months ago. You can find my Zombie Containment video on my channel if you wanted to check it out. I put false gauges and LED lights / lit toggle switches and so forth "eye candy" really makes it pop. Anyway, I subbed to your channel- again nice work

Please set up a scare cam this year! I want to see the reactions to your hard work!

Very cool zombie containment unit. Well done.
Thanks guys! I couldn't have done it without you!
I freakin LOVE THIS!!!!! Awesome job man!
Thanks buddy! Best wishes on your home haunt this year. It's looking pretty amazing.

Thank you! The small screen video comes with the large screen video when you purchase it from HiRez Designs (if memory serves me).

Glen Akins it's wood painted with a few different metallic paints. The pneumatics are a one inch stroke.

The monitor is 21-22 inches. The box it 18 inches deep, about 28 inches wide, and about 80" tall.
could you supply a link to the bar lights, i've looked all over for something similar and nothing has caught my attention

Is there a link to the zombie video?
Where did you find the video that’s playing on your chamber?

Nice side effects
Will you sell me a set of your shocks holding the container? The purple/yellow ones.
Not for sale at this time--sorry! They are super easy to make yourself though. Go to the hardware store and pick up some PVC fittings and try creating something that looks similar.

Is there a link to the zombie video?
David Ehlert no link. You’d have to purchase it from Hi-Rez Designs.
