I don't know what kind of life YOU normally live, but for me it involved regularly seeing other people, including older people. To continue living life as normal, "always there for the taking," while there's a lethal contagious virus on the loose with no cure, would require not caring about one's own health nor anybody else's. That's not a morally viable option for most non-sociopathic people, I would suggest.
