Good God! I heard this on BBC 6 yesterday and couldn't find anything except for shoddy cell phone live. Today BBC 6 spun it again, and this organically popped up. This is the greatest song that represents my pathetic life... ever!
I can sympathize with transitioning to CDs. $1 per CD at thriftstores and you can usually find a great selection of known masterpieces and hidden gems, meanwhile a dirty scratched copy of Kind of Blue can go for $30 at a record store.
I live in Tampa and a lot of the thrift stores have LPs. Most of my records are thrifted. Lucky for me all the olds donate their record collections. I don't know how but I found a Sex Pistols live album in a Christian thrift store for $1.50. You never know where you'll find a cool record.
I started collecting when I a kid in the 60’s. When I turned 21 I was lucky enough to score a job as a rackjobber. I had a set route of Kmart stores in California and I just ordered the LP, 8-tracks and 45’s and packed up the returns to ship back. 1979, records sales started slowing a little and I was gone. It was awesome. By 2000 I had 6000 LPs and 1000 45’s (Many with picture sleeves) I always wanted to open a record store but instead in 2002 I went on eBay and started selling them. About 25% of my collection was kinda rare, the rest I sold at garage sales for .50 or Goodwill got them. CDs were still big and even though I had bought a couple hundred I wasn’t interested. Napster killed the music industry as I knew it. But I treat Spotify as a record store and whenever I have the time I spend hours listening to the stuff I ignored through the years. Rock and Roll will never die, but I wish the music industry would come out it’s coma. I thought the Top 40 in the mid-seventies was boring but the 2010’s chart toppers are not even listenable. This video is so true though. I could buy some killer LPs and pay anywhere from $3.00 down to 10¢. You nailed it Jeffrey Lewis.
This is great! It sounds like my life with LPs in the 90s almost exactly. It really is tough to go from that to modern times. With all of the reprints and forbidding prices. It was a blast while it lasted, though.
Half price books by me in the early/mid 2000s used to have dollar cds and LPs and I discovered so much music just buying stuff with a cool, confrontational or mysterious cover. My local record shop was great but was not nearly as cheap at this time (especially on obscure stuff) as the HPB bargain bin. I could do a few chores and walk out with 5-10 albums. It was magic to me at the time. It was less hyper common stuff they didn’t want and more stuff they just didn’t know what it was. Miss those days. Feel like I consume music much faster now and have been thinking about going back. Thanks for this absolute gem of a song.

(also buying quite a few really cool turntables for next to nothing) So now I must start buying used CD's (I've already thought about that 😁) I loved buying old record collections from people who cleared out their attics (mostly women getting rid of the husbands collections treasured in an earlier life) Also nice powerpop song 🙂

Great Song and Soooooooooo True. I looked through the LP's In My local Charity (Thrift) Store. And the Prices of the LP's were £5 up, and the CD's were 5 for a £1 Or £0.20p Each. You can guess what I overloaded on.

By 1994 I had completed all my Zepplin and Floyd (Zepplin and Floyd) I had all the early traffic but their later stuff has made me annoyed (made me annoyed) You realize that the radio just scratches out the top of the dirt (top of the dirt) When four bucks can buy you Crown of Creation with the lyrics insert.
