@Bigbug123456 Really? I actually don't find the octaves the biggest challenge, for me it's the second section, and particularly the descending arpeggios at 1:11 are an absolute bitch! Maisky just makes it look so effortless, brilliant!!
He's out of tune, so what? I've never heard a rendition of this so light and playful and graceful as Maisky, and he's not even my favourite cellist, but even I can appreciate a brilliant performance! Guys, it's bad form to only comment on the negative when there's so much positive stuff in front of you! Bravo Maisky!
@Christiandupreemusic I hope these were sarcastic comments... Most classical era concertos were frequently performed with the soloist acting as conductor, and Maisky's octaves are definitely not something he needs to work on. This is like telling Rostropovich he needs to work on his coordination.
@Christiandupreemusic How about you become a world renowned cello soloist, perform this concerto 100 times, THEN come back and make the same statement!
Amazing! I'm not sure why though, but the orchestra and Mischa sound out of tune with each other, listen to the last note and towards the end is more noticeable, Not sure, why, don't think it's just me. Well regardless, Maisky is an amazing cellist
Thumbs up im doing this right now and its so hard😩😩
A very special genius, der Herr Haydn....🙂
Difficult and beautiful.

just mezmorizing :)

Maisky is quite possibly one of THE best cellist's of all time right up with Rostropovich and Yo-Yo Ma.

Love his precision and technique. If I took a stab at 1:38 on my cello it would probably just make a lot of squeaking noises.

Maisky was flat on that last D. but still, if he can hit everything else in the entire concerto, i think we can let it slide :)
& watch his eyes, he knows he was just a tad off.
Oh! JJurue
those octaves are a bitch, im learning the piece and thats the only part im stuck on

Ivan Luza he was a bit out of tune in some places yea
It is better to be in less than 1% people with musical taste rather than not to be, init
... I have nothing to say about that. I can only side with Kwert on this one. Why would you even say that about a professional?
he needs to work on his octaves and you have a tendency to rush. hence why we have conductors.
