I absolutely love how AJ, in my opinion, understands Jesus better, much better, than the vast majority of Christians. Perhaps it is because AJ is not hamstrung by beliefs. Brilliant stuff.

Origen said the the camel and the eye of the needle thing is a Hebrew figure of speech meaning it's hard for the rich to walk the straight and narrow.

Do you think it would by good to have children say the Lords Prayer? We did when I was a boy but few do today. It seems things were more peaceful.

Upon hearing the title of this book, and the existence of a Jewish new testament scholar, I was intrigued and added the book to my Amazon cart. Upon hearing the ridiculous liberal theology in this interview, however, I must think again. Hmm...

All this stuff about how hating your father and mother actually means love, and what a beautiful sacred thing it is to rely more on your fraternity than your family, it really reminds me of this very brief comment i happened to hear the other day from another scholar: th-cam.com/users/shortsNLbmkqvjnDs?si=mnL_09lJxtHxLjy8

What ruled from Adam until Jesus?
    Collective sin.
Jesus came to atone for our collective sin while He atoned for the collective burden of sin in the Old Testament of Israel.
When God made a covenant with Israel it was a collective covenant touching the whole nation; as good as the bad.
The covenant with Israel was made in the name of God.
The violation of the covenant was thus infidelity to the head of the covenant.
The new covenant is made in the name of Jesus and this is how we avoid breaking directly against God.
Matt. 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in Heaven, and in earth.
Matt. 25:40 And the king shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Read in the Old Testament what Jesus really did.
No church teaches it quite rightly.
When we understand this correctly, both Christians and Jews, we find that everything the Bible teaches is suddenly logical.

It's actually Buddhist to be budhist ...
and anyone can renounce the world and give things away, anyone! 😂😂😂 Trust me Buddhists don't hoard "giving things away" they even give territoriality away 😂😂😂

If god is real why would he care who any person loves as long as god is loved “most” and u treat others as u want to be treated. If These are the most important. then trying to convince others that they go to hell because who they love is not that. I think it odd/sad that Christian say they love others but try to convince others that they go to hell cause don’t think same as them.

God rebukes wickedness. Have you read the OT? The promises of God were blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. Why then did Rome occupy Israel? Why did Rome destroy Israel? That speaks to disobedience. They not only refused Jesus's message they conspired with Rome to have Him killed. Just as Jesus stated their house was left desolate and their enemies would destroy them.
    Jesus uses truth.

Israel was not allowed to ally with other nations or give its citizens into the hands of its enemies. The wrongdoings of the leaders were the collective sin of Israel.
The death of Jesus was directly related to the violation of the Moshiach Law.

One of the weaker talks I've heard by AJ. Much of Biblical Academia is often pseudo apologetics even by non Christians and thats on full display here. For a complete exegesis of Luke 14:26 see The Bad Jesus The Ethics of NT Ethics by Hector Avalos.
