Yea, as short lived as it was. The best line up this band had after reinvention was With Medlocke, Hughey Thomason , Rossington on guitars and they still had Leon and Billy on bass and keys. The tribute band was great also but not as good as the next line up.

Probably the saddest thing I think about surrounding Ed King was after he left this band in 75 I don't think he and Ronnie ever spoke again. Ed said everyone in the band called him after he left...... But Ronnie, he said had he, he probably would have come back but had that happen, he may have lost his life 2 years later?

@saved by the word True. Gaines IMHO struggled with Call Me the Breeze- I liked it but he was noodling. Re SHA, a problem however, his lead in SHA during the Oakland concert '77 was a thing of beauty, despite its distance from King's signature. To be fair, King was an exceptional and unique musician and operated IMHO at a different cognitive level than the others. My POV is that Gaines had a beautiful brightness and precision that is very appealing - and hard to replicate.

So, this is gonna be a long post. It was in the summer between my sophomore and junior year of high school. I had a rock and roll band I played drums in. And we were huge Skynyrd fans. They came to Nashville in 91 and we had great tickets. My best friend and lead singer of my band picked up our other bandmates in his mom's car. But, before he got to us, he rear ended a Jaguar on his way. It took us a while to get to the show, but we saw the opener, a band called Junkyard. When Skynyrd hit the stage, at Starwood Amphitheater in Antioch, TN, the crowd went wild!! We invited this chic to smoke a joint with us during the show, and I'll never forget, she inhaled the entire thing in 4 hits and left us nothing afterward! But, the best is yet to come!
So, in the middle of Ed King's solo in Simple Man, halfway through the show, all the sudden, the entire amphitheater's power went out. So, for about 30 mins, we were in the dark, with only emergency lights to put a small glow on the whole place. My friend, Patrick and I, went to stand in line at the concession stand to wait for a coke, and while we were waiting in line, this older lady was banging on the windows trying to get some beer. The poor kid who was working the concessions couldn't sell anything because there wasn't any power. But this lady kept banging on the window. And she yells to the kid "I'll give you head if you will give me a beer!!!" I will NEVER forget that for the rest of my life! But then, the power came on. So, we hurry back to our seats. Artimus Pyle came on the mic and made a joke that someone must've turned the AC on (it was an outdoor venue) and he said the band was about to come back on the stage. So, all 14 thousand of us got settled in to hear them play Simple Man again.
The band started the song again, and wouldn't you know it, the power went out again!!! For 45 mins, the crowd anxiously waited for the lights to come back on. When they did, someone came over the microphone and said there had been a car accident a mile away and it knocked power out in a one mile radius. So, the band would have to reschedule and come back later in the year. BUT, they made the mistake of telling people to keep their ticket stub and exchange it for a new one later on for the new show. I can attest that people were fighting on the ground for ticket stubs that had been thrown down by people who didn't keep theirs. As a 15 year old, watching rednecks fighting on the ground over ticket stubs, it was a harrowing experience. So, as the venue cleared out, people were setting fire to the grass hill, throwing liquor and whatnot into the fires. People were fighting, rolling down the hill of the place as we made our way out. It was crazy!
When we got to the parking lot, we had parked beside some Hell's Angel bikers. And they asked us if we had some papers because they had some weed. My best friend Steve reached into a notebook and pulled out a piece of notebook paper. He took their weed and rolled a giant Cheech and Chong style joint. So, we stood in a circle with these bikers, and when he went to light it up, the entire thing just flamed out in 5 seconds!!!! All the weed fell out and we were left standing there with these bikers, with no weed, and no papers, and the flaming notebook paper joint burning up in seconds!! The bikers laughed, gave us some whiskey from their flasks, and we all got a huge laugh about it!!
I'll never forget that night for the rest of my life! Lynyrd Skynyrd, our favorite band as a high schooler in 1991, with Ed King and Artimus and of course the original band minus Ronnie, Steve, and Cassie! They even brought Allen Collins out in a wheelchair to say hi to the crowd!! What a cool thing to do on that tour!! I still have my ticket stub! Anyway, thanks for reading if you did this long!!!

When they started the tour, they had two drummers. I saw them in Nashville and the power went totally out in the middle of "Simple Man." They came back to do a make-up show later and Artimus was no longer with them.

I myself was always a country boy at heart. My brother older then me when he would come home with his friends I'd be there listening to my country music he would pass me some slaps on the back of my head. And him and his friends would make fun of me cause country was not Cool at the time it was rock and roll was Cool. I didn't think so but I got beat for listening to country. So I finally got tired of the beatingsand I started giving rock and roll a chance it took a long time of listening to it before I could aquire a taste for that kind of music 🎶 🎵 but I did and this here music was one of my favorits by a long shot. So now I listen to both but I'm still lean more toward Country Music. There's nothing better than to listen to some old Hank Williams Sr. That will make your hair stand up and make u want to cry the biggest tear drop known to man even with everything that I have been through I have been through most everything I can think of. Put me some Hank and I will boil like a baby good cleaning I promise you that my Son r daughter I never had. But I love me some Lkynard Skynard thank ya'll for letting me share God Bless Ya'll.
