Also you could try making crystal geodes with egg shells, potassium aluminium sulfate powder! (You can find the instructions on the internet)

Braiding actually should increase the strength of individual fibers. The initial stretch u got from nate's hanging was due to the loose braid. Do a test of braided vs not braided tape on the crane scale for the same amount of tape strands.
