People seem to forget that Pokemon didn't start the "catching and befriending monsters" video game genre.... it popularized it. I hope Yo-Kai Watch returns on July 11th
I really don't get that point when Level-5 and Yo-Kai themselves did their marketing to appeal to Pokémon fans, even releasing the games in the same way, 2 versions 2 exclusives a 3rd game to tie everything up. You said it, Pokémon did not invent nothing BUT made something even greater, popularized a genre of gaming, that until now it's basically a monopoly, there is no series that can hold itself in this genre, their are either bad or just die quickly. In the case of Yo-Kai it died quickly because Level-5 as always decide to kill another franchise, and they love to do it, by not releasing games on the West.
Yokai Watch was my goddamn CHILDHOOD. As a half-japanese boy, I was THERE in Japan during 2014's yokai-mania. You couldn't escape it. As a kid who loved the concept of yokai, I got hooked. Yokai Watch 2 was even my very first 3ds game when it eventually released in the US. I love this series, I've played 1 and 2 (3's on my backlog) but admittedly never watched the anime, though I DID watch the first movie when that came here - it was a special one-day screening and they gave out an exclusive Hovernyan medal that I still have. This series will always have a soft spot in my heart, and it's a crying shame how nonexistent it is now, even in Japan.
Well there is a reboot in Japan idk how well it’s doing over there though tbh it seemed to last abit 2014 - 2016 maybe 2018 because while fans like Shadowside it didn’t do to well
I was introduced to it through the anime, but didn’t even know it was a game till like 5 years later, so I emulated the first game, and boy was it worth it, much better than Pokémon in the 3ds in my opinion, and I’m not biased as my first game Omega Ruby and second was Sun
Yo-Kai Watch 3 is the biggest 3Ds game in terms of sheer content, and as a hardcore Yo-Kai fan, I recommend it the most out of all other main series Yo-Kai Watch games. Also Blasters is great
@@JustEpic_Yt exactly. I'm glad I bought it digitally at launch so I have it tbh. Same with Red Cat Corp, and I got White Dog Squad before the EShop closed
Now, I don't live in the States, but as far as I can tell the European versions of the games, inluding Psychic Specters which tends to be sold at the highest price, can still be bought for relatively cheap money. So, get a hold of the copies as long as they're still available if you're in the EU, but otherwise maybe think about modding your DS device if you don't.
Yo-kai watch saved me from permanent depression after my copy of ultra sun was stolen from me. That save file had 99% of the Pokedex completed. Thank you Yo-kai watch for saving me, you will be missed.
The problem is that people just dismiss it as nothing more than a Pokémon knockoff, but unlike other Pokémon like games it doesn’t try to imitate it whatsoever. Plus, Pokémon isn’t the only monster catching game that can exist, it’s like calling sonic a Mario knockoff cuz they’re both platformers
Literally. Children in the west did it all the time when the anime first aired and they hadn’t even seen it. I was clowned on by a few of my elementary school classmates at the time for liking it. (despite the fact I also watched Pokémon so could safely say they were not the same.)
I luckily never met anyone who clowned on me at school for liking Yokai Watch (I've met someone who LIKED it), but something similar happened to me related to digimon, I was scared to say I liked digimon because I thought because almost every kid there was a pokemon fan they would bully me for it (when I was a fan of both) and I'd overanalize every single mannerism of mine out of paranoia
The thing jibanyans owner was calling lame... was herself... she was extremely saddened and crying while hugging his corpse calling herself lame and berating herself for being unable to keep Rudy safe.
Yokai watch is more like digimon than pokemon imo, but the game is really fun and more like a simple version of cyber slueth. I only played the first game, but it was very fun and unique
Thinking about it, yeah I can see it being similar to digimon, but I wouldn't know if it plays like the digimon game as i've never played it. I just remember that the general consensus for Yo-kai Watch was that it was a "pokémon clone"
@JimfromWisconsin sadly any franchise with monsters is considered a pokemon clone to some people. You have your digimon, but some people will go as far to say beyblade and Yugioh are pokemon clones. Safe to say they never watched either series though
I love Yo Kai Watch so much, I grew up on it alongside Pokémon but liked it a bit more. I love the story and I think it’s pretty cute. I loved the tunnel and Hazy Lane because it was kinda creepy. The movies were pretty neat and I have so many fond memories of these games.
I loved the infinite tunnel and the Hazy Lane. Also the sound track for the series just fit so well and would actively try to unlock all the songs in the game lol
Finally, people to talk about the infinite tunnel with, a mechanic that is very weird, makes little sense rationally, explains 0 things about why it is how it is (like, who was that ghost girl?), but I can't have enough of, it's creepy but I get attracted to it 3's version of it is even better, cause it's creepier, it's a field trail on the open, but has more weird crap going on, like that giant lobster...
Fucking THANK YOU. I hate that people are so convinced that Yokai Watch is a Pokemon clone, when it's a different game entirely and is actually a great franchise that's really underrated imo. I really hope that people will actually appreciate this gem of a series and revive it, cause it's one of my favorite game series.
Is it better than 1 and 2? I’m considering emulating it since I love YKW 1 and 2, but I do know that it is much different, not even taking place in Springdale
It's always a good day when I can find a new video about this series, of any kind. Despite 11 year old me not even knowing what the term anime was or what Japan was(I was a dumb kid) I fell in love with the series from day one thanks to the anime. Never got the 3DS games but played wibble wobble(until it got shut down). Even to this day I still play puni puni. With Level-5 coming back with new games including a new Layton game, I hope we can finally get the 4th game.
31:45 Funnily enough, this piece of lore would later be retconned in the 2nd game as well as in the 1st movie as it would be established that Nate’s grandfather was the one who invented the Yo-Kai Watch. Yo-Kai Watch is one of my favorite franchises of all time and I actually got into it way before I got into Pokémon. It’s honestly quite different from Pokémon. Too bad not that many people gave it a chance or wrote it off as a Pokémon clone. Even reaching a point to where it’s lost popularity in Japan. It’s a shame too considering all of the games are really solid. My favorite being the 3rd game.
Just want to say thank you for making it very clear early on to people that Yo-Kai Watch isn't a Pokémon clone at all, I LOVE this series so much and it didn't deserve the hate it got, let alone so much it ended up dying out quickly (despite definitely not deserving THAT either.)
I started out being one of those people that called it a clone. Then I sometimes watched a few episodes of the anime because it was always being aired just when I came home and then my new nintendo 3ds broke and I got a 2ds bundled with the game. I very very quickly started to notice that I was extremely wrong. Like, even before starting the game because the anime was completely different from the pokémon anime(only similarity is kid befriend monster) which did not fit into the narrative that it was just a copy paste pokémon rip-off. I own every game released outside of japan now.
@@pokemonlover4894 I know, I played every game. I said "kid befriend monster", because both Pokémon and Yo-Kai Watch are part of the monster collecting JRPG video game genre. The "monster" part is less saying that they have to be monsters, it just stands for "powerful creature with special powers". If it literally meant monster, then most games in that genre would not be part of the genre. For example, the first big monster collecting JRPG, Shin Megami Tensei, would not fall under monster collecting, since you collect demons in those games. So no, I did not mean to say that Yo-Kai are monsters.
The way Pokemon is going right now, I wouldn't be surprised if people would start buying Yo-kai Watch games instead. They are one heck of a roller coaster, a fun one at that.
I wish that would happen. 1. YKW deserves it 2. I’ve been more satisfied with YKW than Pokemon when it comes to releases on the 3DS and the Switch. 3. Maybe some actual competition would inspire Pokemon to start putting the necessary time, energy, and resources into a game or else they’ll start losing revenue.
As a lifelong pokemon fan, i grew to love yo kai watch separately and have to say that Yokai watch 3 had more love put into it and more content than any main series pokemon game by a VERY large margin
Unfortunatly, It didn't sell quite a lot in the west, and again, that's really unfortunate, because yeah, you're right, it Indeed got more effort into the programmation of the game than other Pokémon games now days.
What ruined YoKaI is that they didn't establish a proper bases, they started well until around 3rd game, then Shadowside didn't appeal to many, they went in heavy with humour that it killed it's self trying to capture the spark of their beginning
i thought i would never see in my whole entire life somebody talking about yo-kai watch ever again, as a guy that has more than 500+ hours in the game and somehow managed to make the game making me not possible to play it ever again i can say i am happy
Yo-kai watch will forever be my favourite franchise, the character designs, the gameplay, the yo kai inspiration. Just brilliant stuff. (Great vid btw.)
@@Arumia13The anime had 3 seasons dubbed and localized into English. The first 2 seasons are pretty good. But Disney mishandled it and the cast was replaced in season 3 before finally being “cancelled”.
Yo-Kai watch holds such a special place in my heart, I was OBSESSED with it. Seeing someone make new content on it is amazing and I do hope we get to see it again in the west. I definitely think ppl seeing it as a “Pokemon clone” or the “Pokémon killer” damaged it in the long run especially since it has barley any similarities to Pokémon other than the befriending monsters concept (which has been around before Pokémon)
This! It happens to any media that involves collecting monsters when Pokémon isn't even the first game that did that! I wish people could put that bias aside and actually pick up these games. Yokai Watch deserves more love
It was my first introduction to anime. Basically I was trying to find some thing to watch and just saw something call “Yo-Kai Watch” on Disney XD and thought, “ I’ll try that” ( it was the one about Baku in season 1) then I got hooked on the series. It will forever remain in my heart.
If you feel the battles takes a long time, pressing X during a battle will speed up the pace of the battle, pressing it again disable it.(this also works in Yo-Kai Watch 2 & 3)
i honestly don't think that Yo-Kai Watch is really even close to a Pokémon ripoff. They started along the same path but branched out in different ways, same genre, different execution. I really enjoy both games and i don't really understand when people say Yo-Kai Watch is a Pokémon ripoff.
I remember telling my friend: "Nah, I won't buy Yokai Watch 2. I'm more excited for Pokémon Sun." Then again, I bought both of them (YW way later) and ended up having over 400+ in Yokai Watch lmaooo. Yokai Watch 3 is such a master piece. Damn, YW Blasters is so fun. YW deserves better.
I agreed here's the different between pokemon and yo kai watch Pokemon protagonists: mute, emotionless, no personality. Yo kai watch protagonists: have dialogue, emotion, and personality. Pokemon: catch pokemon. Yo kai watch: befriended yo kai. Pokemon: pokemon talking in their own name (beside meowth). Yo kai watch: almost every yo kai can talk normally. Pokemon: almost everyone have Pokemon. Yo kai watch: don't know that yo kai exist. Pokemon: trainer battles. Yo kai watch: battling yo kai. That all i remembered
Pokémon: Battle with the commands of trainers Yo Kai: Battle themselves (Other than soultimates and pinning enemies of course) Pokémon: Battles are mainly 1v1 or 2v2 Yo Kai watch: all battles are 3v3
As a massive RPG fan and a guy who spent a lot of their childhood in Japan, Yokai Watch 2 & 3 is probably the best game I've played on the 3DS imo. It makes sense how it died very quickly in western countries given that it was originally aimed towards Japanese audiences, but it has sooo much more content than Pokemon games lol
I grew up with this series, and I find it hilarious that the Soultimate moves are similar to Z-Moves yet Soultimate moves came first, both in 2013 in Japan and 2015 internationally. Ironically the "complaint" that its a pokemon clone is just as relevant when pokemon copied soultimates and it was worse in every way.
Yo-kai watch saved me from permanent depression after my copy of ultra sun was stolen from me. That save file had 99% of the Pokedex completed. Thank you Yo-kai watch for saving me, you will be missed.
57:02 Funny thing about Yo-kai Watch. Despite it being a kids game, the game only explains the bare minimum to go through the main story. They don’t explain where to find more powerful Yo-kai to make the slog fights go quicker, or the side quests that give you Yo-kai to cover some of the E/D ranks that are lagging behind at this point. Hell, it doesn’t even explain that some Yo-kai drop their evo items to fuse the one you have. It is still beatable with the minimum, but you’ll have a general rough time unless you go out there and find those side quests and explore the new sections to help clear the chapter quicker. On my first play through from this chapter, I had a Frostina who did some nice damage against that boss. Unfortunately, the side quests don’t get labeled on the map until the 2nd game, but it becomes very important to explore the unlocked map asap to find more Yo-kai to use to get through more slots like that. Otherwise you’ll be stuck with the barebones method.
"I like playing as the female character" Hahaha, that reminds me of when I was a young "boy". I remember playing as Katie, and giving her the same name.
Yokai Watch has to be my absolute favorite game franchise ever. I believe it is severely underrated. I got my 3DS around 2019, just barely missing everyone playing often and the release of Yokai Watch 3, Yokai Watch carried me throughout all of the 2020 lockdown. I've ended up getting every game, including variants, and I absolutely love every game. I really miss when people would give this game real recognition and wish I could've been there to play online with a lot of different people.
I still remember back when I played the first game and within the first half-hour, I already spotted 5 major differences between Pokemon and Yo-Kai Watch. It was honestly painful how for so long, biased Pokemon fans gave this series more undeserved vitriol than they gave to Digimon. I think the only reason they've finally shut up about this title in recent years is because we didn't get the forth one in North America for whatever reason. But I've asked this many times before, why have so many Pokemon fans still not realized monster collection is a sub-genre? Sure, I've seen mentalities like this many times before. There was a time when FPS's were brand new and every single one was labeled a Doom clone. There was a time when Abridging was young and it was thought that only LittleKuriboh was allowed to do it. But you know one thing these mentalities had in common? They didn't last long. It took roughly 1-2 years for people to finally come to grips with the fact that these were trends and that there was nothing wrong with that, that expanding your interests and giving these other works a shot gave you more to enjoy. Yet even after 25+ years, a good chunk of the Pokemon fandom still hasn't come to grips with the fact that other monster collection titles exist. They still act as if the existence of any other monster collection title is hurting them. I guess after how much people were disappointed by the mainline Switch titles, they're starting to take interest in alternatives now, but the mentality is still there. Seriously, when is this going to end for good?
Pokemon just has a certain appeal to it that sadly most other monster catching franchises just barely seem to be able to capture that spark or appeal. Also pokemon has the whole competitive aspect going for it too.
@@angelinacamacho8575Yo-Kai Watch had competitive aspects starting with the 2nd games. There was too much of a time gap between international releases so a competitive scene was never able to take root like it has with Pokémon. Especially since Pokémon hasn’t had any major time gaps between Japanese releases and international releases and tends to release same day “globally” since the 3DS era. Yo-Kai Watch has a surprisingly rich battle system that never got to shine because of the international delay.
People really just let their laziness consume them when it comes to judging games at surface level. Pokemon has its strengths and weaknesses, like its friendliness to competition and more control, while yokai watch is more casual yet surprisingly more difficult in the sense that you have less control and are more supporting your yokai while they attack, so you have to plan ahead and think in the moment instead of just movesets and numbers. I enjoy the unpredictability of yokai watch battles because it feels more like im helping my sentient yokai buddies instead of just yelling orders and mashing buttons like in pokemon Tdlr; functionally theyre actually very different games with similar concepts so they're both enjoyable depending on your playstyle
YES. If you change your system clock to cheese the Crank-a-Kai funnily enough, Gargaros will appear and tell you off, saying something along the lines of "I, Gargaros, never forgive tricksters!" The first two times he just suspects it, but if you change it a third time, he'll full on accuse you, and block off Crank-a-Kai use for a couple days, along with other once-a-day challenges. This happens in the 2nd, 3rd, and Blasters game too, getting worse with each game. I played Yo-Kai Watch a bunch as a kid, it was my equivalent to Pokémon X and Y. My younger brother would change our clock occasionally and that would happen. If you change it back to the original date, Gargaros would register that as a change too.
My god, you people need to stop labeling Yo-kai Watch as "not just a Pokémon clone". Yo-kai Watch is it's own game. NO Not a Clone or a Rip-off. It is and was it's own game. .. #SaveYokaiWatch ..
Thank you for making this video! More ppl NEED to know more about this amazing franchise! They need to know it’s NOT just Pokémon! Videos like these legit make my day :)
As someone who shares the history of this game coming out while I was in high school as well and taking a chance on it as well. I completely agree with your sentiments. The fact that our stories about getting this game is so similar it’s just crazy. That just goes to show how special that time and the game is. It was a weird time for sure, but it literally shared the same charm as the game. So I believe it’s meant to have that charm
I've been replaying yo-kai Watch: 2,3 and Blasters in the last few days and i can say for sure that these Games are Better than Anything the Pokemon franchise has pumped out in the last 7-8 years. If anyone wants to tell me that Ultra Sun/Moon , Sword/Schield or Crimson/Purple were better? Kudos for lying to my face.
3:14 wait hold on... That's literally exactly what Gutsy Bones looks like. Also Yokai Watch has to be home to my favorite line in any video game. “Chairman Squidillius McKraken and his political party” Its hilarious even in context.
Considering that in the previous year Level-5 are doing their best to return to be open to the public outside Japan, is really intriguing if they decide to bring back Yo-Kai Watch too, like at least translating Yo-Kai Watch 4 and Y-Heroes.
I only ever played the yokai watch demo amd I thought the gameplay was more engaging then any Pokémon game I’ve played. What I think really set yokai watch back was it’s aim for a younger age demographic compared to Pokémon which pulls in all ages and especially kids 10 and under.
Yokai watch is definitely more of a slice of life comedy in terms of “story” I guess… the stakes aren’t insanely high usually and it’s more lighthearted and cozy feeling imo
I miss yokai watch sm dude I remember coming back from school just to play yokai watch wibble wobble😭 I was devastated when it was removed off of the app store
I remember going through a phase where I liked yokai watched then hating it for a while. I had both one and flesh souls. Then a few months ago I picked up my old game and played it again and I realized how much fun it is. I actually bought boney spirits psychical and yokai watch 3 before the eshop shut down. I genuinely prefer yokai watch over Pokémon, it just has more charm to me and felt more unique.
I always saw Yokai watch as 'a monster tamer game with a slice of slice story and setting" it helps it stand out. You aren't aiming to be the felt best like no one ever was. You're just solving small town problems making friends and sometimes use them for "battle". I always loved tbe feel of this game. The entire town has this really cozy lived in feeling with one of the nicest town themes I've ever heard in a game . And the combat in tbe game has always been a lot of fun to me....yokai recruitment always irked me though sonetiend it feels kind of unfair when you use the best quality items.
Just saw your community post and I was shocked to find out you had less then 300 subs before this. I really enjoyed listening to it on my walk home from work. Keep up the great work!
Info for the people who want to try out the game: PLEASE don't change the time system of the 3ds or whatever device you are emulating in to cheat the Crank a Kai, as far as I know if you do it multiple times it will be blocked off and you won't be able to use it, ever, it's convenient I know, but you will mess it up if you get greedy Also, I hate how this is not the first time I see that Blizzaria art at 42:45
Ok, when I played wibble wobble, I read Masive Face description terrified me. It read if you turn your back on it at night, you get erased from existence and everyone who knew you would lose memories of you.
Finally someone is talking about this hidden gem and doing it justice. Always love it when people shed light onto these great games that are shadowed by their much better counterparts. I remember watching the anime on Netflix with my brothers. We would know the entire plot of an episode just from the first ten seconds or less. I really hope that an official translation for the switch version comes out but knowing the history of the games in america probably not.
Yokai watch is objectively superior to Pokémon. Yokai watch isn’t even close to a Pokémon clone. Yokai watch is my favorite family friendly game series. And basically the entirety of Japan thinks so too
I love yokai watch! I put way more time to it than Pokémon. Shame it got such a bad rep for being similar to Pokémon, because those games are amazing. Wish they were still being translated to English
It's very clear this fun game isn't a Pokemon clone. It just take the gimmick of recruiting allies from Dragon Quest 5 and is most likely took many ideas from a previous Level-5 game, Ni no Kuni: Dominion of the Dark Djinn.
If you time travel using the 3ds system clock gargaros will be very upset and turn off the crank a kai for a day or so and all daily things will be unavailable along with the increased terror time
This series is such a comfort to me! This video talking about it has kinda inspired me to start working on my own Yo-kai watch series retrospective/Analysis
Ah yo Kai watch the game where you beat up dead people fun for the whole family it even spawned it’s own tv show it was pretty decent mostly a comedy show with dark themes
When I say that Yokai watch has inspired me to not only get into drawing all the concepts that get into my head, but also to make a game and tell a story that is just dumb fun, I mean that to the fullest extent. I mean for god’s sake I literally have a drawing of Phantasmurai as my pfp
Finally something about how Yo-Kai Watch wasn't a crappy Pokemon ripoff, especially with all the quantity-over-quality Pokemon games we've been getting. Yo-Kai Watch made so many more memories for my siblings and myself than Pokemon even though we all played the two franchises at the same age during our childhood. And I think this is because Pokemon always has the same end goal in every game, just with different characters and gameplay options. Meanwhile, Yo-Kai Watch always has a wacky story that sometimes doesn't make too much sense, but it's engaging to play along with the characters and see all the hidden secrets in every area. Like the Hazy Lane and Infinite Tunnel? HELLO???? Those places were unironically uncanny and even made me feel a little disturbed when I was like 10 years old. And the soundtrack of all the Yo-Kai Watch games remain consistent with their wacky-fun-time themes, but also sometimes ambient, and calming tracks. Okay this is getting to be a little long of a comment, but I just love Yo-Kai Watch so much more than Pokemon at this point. The characters are fun and have their own distinct personalities that are portrayed throughout the game. I also like how the Yo-Kai also have actual personalities and can communicate to humans who can see them, which makes for a much more interesting experience.
I love Yo-Kai Watch and it’s my vacation from Pokémon series. My only gripe is too many Yo-Kai are color swaps or too similar to each other. So many Jibanyan’s that it makes Pikachu clones look amazing. And even the robot ones have clones. Goldenyan is just a glorified stronger version of Robonyan who was already a robotic version of Jibanyan. They do this with other characters too. They did it with Komasan, Komajiro, and Jibakoma. They did it with Cheek Squeak and Cuttin’ Cheese. They did it with the dancing seaweed trio. I still love the series but it has a problem with monster design. Also Kyubi and Frostail look similar except Kyubi is supposed to be a fox spirit while Frostail is supposed to be a dog spirit like an inugami.
Yokai watch is a great game franchise, but can we take a moment to talk about how Level 5’s game quality goes beyond just Yokai Watch and Professor Layton. LBX is one of my favorite 3ds games, and it’s game structure was really similar to Yokai Watch.
These games were so much more beautiful and original (artistic wise) than the 3DS Pokemon games. Also a lot bigger in exploration and side content. I'm so sad that Yokai Watch 4 is still stuck in Japan.
Yo kai watch will forever have a spechial place in my heart It was my favourite game growing up I own all the yo kai watch games and im glad i got this game to grow up alongside with ^^
Yo-kai watch has always been really good and more than just a Pokémon dupe, it actually has nothing in comparison with Pokémon besides befriending little creatures and being able to "catch them all". I prefer Yo-kai watch over Pokémon any day.
Something being for kids doesn’t mean it doesn’t need to bother with story. There’s a number of kid-focused games that manage to tell really compelling ones, like Megaman Star Force 1, or Pokémon S&M. I even got into JRPGs from a young age because they were the only genre concerned with writing a story at the time.
Cool to see this game show up on my feed again, as I had loved the series when it initially came out. I even got every manga when they came out. But this video came through and made me realize I have a Yo-Kai-Watch hole in my heart that I need to fill. Thanks for the reminder and thanks for telling more of the world about this awesome game!
this franchise is the one ive played the most, with about 700 hours total and, while not finishing ANY medallium, i have 200 hours in yokai watch 3, and 2, and 300 hours in yokai watch 1, with loads of hours sunk into the spinoffs like wibble wobble and blasters, minus the switch games and busters 2, being only released in japan
I love this series so much, and I grew up playing it. I miss it so much (my 3DS got busted) ! Thanks for this compilation on the first game! I would love to see more content about it if you find it interesting enough!
i found yokai watch through the anime on disney xd and soon i just fell in love it, like before i was already a huge pokémon fan but yokai watch had it own charm to it and how much it’s basically different from pokémon. yokai watch will forever have that spot of nostalgia and childhood wonder in my heart
Im sure someone mentioned this already butt if they havent i will have to say you mention the Yo-kai auto attacking being frustrating, and while thats true you can better influence what their AI does by giving them books and changing their mood, for example if you want a yo-kai to phyiscally attack more, you can give them a book to make them Rough, this will make them do the attack you'd like way more often
My favorite rpg franchise, I remember when I was really young and I saw the Anime and after I saw that existed a game I was so excited to play but the years passed and yo kai watch just.... Disappeared, I'm from Portugal and I'm so happy to see that people still remember this franchise

I feel like Yo Kai Watch really started getting good at around the 3rd game and it started to feel like, yeah this is what feels right for a game like this
Knowing from experience, changing the 3DS clock is detected by all Yo-Kai Watch games! It prevents you from doing the Crank-a-Kai and a few other daily things in the later games
26:52 it does detect it but it warns you advising you to un do it but if you get 3 warnings it removes the ability to use the crank a kai and other daily actions

@@Dawg347 apparently people who can't afford the game. I was in middle school at the time, and not many people had both copies of gen 7.
Exactly this, they act like only one game of a genre can exist

Tbh I too dumb as child to think Pokémon and yokai watch were even similar to each other and I thought yokai watch was completely different to Pokémon
@JimfromWisconsin sadly any franchise with monsters is considered a pokemon clone to some people. You have your digimon, but some people will go as far to say beyblade and Yugioh are pokemon clones. Safe to say they never watched either series though

I loved the infinite tunnel and the Hazy Lane. Also the sound track for the series just fit so well and would actively try to unlock all the songs in the game lol
Finally, people to talk about the infinite tunnel with, a mechanic that is very weird, makes little sense rationally, explains 0 things about why it is how it is (like, who was that ghost girl?), but I can't have enough of, it's creepy but I get attracted to it
3's version of it is even better, cause it's creepier, it's a field trail on the open, but has more weird crap going on, like that giant lobster...
Fucking THANK YOU. I hate that people are so convinced that Yokai Watch is a Pokemon clone, when it's a different game entirely and is actually a great franchise that's really underrated imo. With Level-5 coming back with new games including a new Layton game, I hope we can finally get the 4th game.
A lot of people (including me haha) actually still make videos on this game to this day. Unfortunately, only the retrospectives ever get noticed
I wish I had the 4th game and blasters and the hard copy of the 3rd I hope I can find a cheep one soon
Still hoping for a LBX remake or available sequel. *copium*
@@Idkpleasejustletmechangeit the mc of yo Kai watch does not befriends monters he befriends yokai way way different from monters
@@Idkpleasejustletmechangeit oh ok sorry for the missunderstanding
The way Pokemon is going right now, I wouldn't be surprised if people would start buying Yo-kai Watch games instead. They are one heck of a roller coaster, a fun one at that.
I wish that would happen. 1. YKW deserves it 2. I’ve been more satisfied with YKW than Pokemon when it comes to releases on the 3DS and the Switch. 3. Maybe some actual competition would inspire Pokemon to start putting the necessary time, energy, and resources into a game or else they’ll start losing revenue.

Yeah they tried to emulate the anime which they shouldn't have

This was said in other comments but Shin Megami Tensei kinda started the monster catching genre, go SMT
Kyubi in the game: a smart and serious guardian angel that protects those who praise him
Kyubi in the show: A simp.
And in a side quest in the second game too.
True, though he’s not a simp in the anime, he just does it to get kyu balls or whatever they were called so he can become a greater Kyubi
I remember telling my friend: "Nah, I won't buy Yokai Watch 2. I'm more excited for Pokémon Sun."
Then again, I bought both of them (YW way later) and ended up having over 400+ in Yokai Watch lmaooo.
Yokai Watch 3 is such a master piece. Damn, YW Blasters is so fun. YW deserves better.
I remember being too scared to play it because of terror time 😭
Real
I agreed here's the different between pokemon and yo kai watch
Pokemon protagonists: mute, emotionless, no personality.
Yo kai watch protagonists: have dialogue, emotion, and personality.
Pokemon: catch pokemon.
Yo kai watch: befriended yo kai.
Pokemon: pokemon talking in their own name (beside meowth).
Yo kai watch: almost every yo kai can talk normally.
Pokemon: almost everyone have Pokemon.
Yo kai watch: don't know that yo kai exist.
Pokemon: trainer battles.
Yo kai watch: battling yo kai.
That all i remembered
Pokémon: Battle with the commands of trainers
Yo Kai: Battle themselves (Other than soultimates and pinning enemies of course)
Pokémon: Battles are mainly 1v1 or 2v2
Yo Kai watch: all battles are 3v3

Yo-Kai watch was pretty popular in Korea when it first came out. I remember seeing the second movie when I visited Korea.

Funny thing about Yo-kai Watch.
"I like playing as the female character"
Hahaha, that reminds me of when I was a young "boy".
Oh boy a yo-kai watch retrospective!
Opening sentence: “P O K E M O N”
Yo-Kai Watch deserved so much better as a franchise and frankly I wish I hadn't gotten rid of all my Yo-Kai merchandise :(
11:26
Finally, I figured out that I'm NOT alone whenever I pick the character's canonical names.
I enjoy the unpredictability of yokai watch battles because it feels more like im helping my sentient yokai buddies instead of just yelling orders and mashing buttons like in pokemon
Tdlr; functionally theyre actually very different games with similar concepts so they're both enjoyable depending on your playstyle
Plus, using items doesn’t feel very ‘Cheaty’ since there is a cooldown, and many strategies even rely on Talismans
I've always liked how in the Yo Kai Watch anime it focuses around the shenanigans yo-kai cause to their environment.
Honestly, Yo-Kai Watch only flopped in North America because it contained a lot of folklore most of us wouldn’t get
My god, you people need to stop labeling Yo-kai Watch as "not just a Pokémon clone".
Yo-kai Watch is it's own game. NO Not a Clone or a Rip-off. It is and was it's own game.

It's very clear this fun game isn't a Pokemon clone. It just take the gimmick of recruiting allies from Dragon Quest 5 and is most likely took many ideas from a previous Level-5 game, Ni no Kuni: Dominion of the Dark Djinn.

Ah yo Kai watch the game where you beat up dead people fun for the whole family it even spawned it’s own tv show it was pretty decent mostly a comedy show with dark themes
Remember when Nate died? TWICE!
When I say that Yokai watch has inspired me to not only get into drawing all the concepts that get into my head, but also to make a game and tell a story that is just dumb fun, I mean that to the fullest extent. I mean for god’s sake I literally have a drawing of Phantasmurai as my pfp
I swear all Level-5 games are so good and fun and made with so much love and care
I’ve been stuck on this Damm pig in a bath for almost a decade 💀
I would have LOVED for this game to have been akin to Ni No Kuni's graphics, but I'm very happy with what we got
yo kai watch 4 has graphics similiar to ni no kuni but sadly it has never been localized
Oh my god i think you just explained my entire thoughts on this series
Yo kai watch will forever have a spechial place in my heart
It was my favourite game growing up
I own all the yo kai watch games and im glad i got this game to grow up alongside with ^^
Yo-kai watch has always been really good and more than just a Pokémon dupe, it actually has nothing in comparison with Pokémon besides befriending little creatures and being able to "catch them all".
Im sure someone mentioned this already butt if they havent i will have to say you mention the Yo-kai auto attacking being frustrating, and while thats true you can better influence what their AI does by giving them books and changing their mood, for example if you want a yo-kai to phyiscally attack more, you can give them a book to make them Rough, this will make them do the attack you'd like way more often
banger video 10/10 yo-kai watch deserves more recognition, this is coming from someone who enjoys both pokemon and yo-kai watch.
My favorite rpg franchise, I remember when I was really young and I saw the Anime and after I saw that existed a game I was so excited to play but the years passed and yo kai watch just.... Disappeared, I'm from Portugal and I'm so happy to see that people still remember this franchise
Yokai watch 3 is genuinely in my top 10 favorite games of all time. I'm so glad to see people still talking to it.
Wow, I thought I was the only one who played this. Nice to know there are a decent amount of fans. I remember the Pig boss was so tough for me and that I was scared of the Surgeon boss.
Sproink, and Dr.Maddiman.
Yo-kai watch saved me from permanent depression after my copy of ultra sun was stolen from me. That save file had 99% of the Pokedex completed. Thank you Yo-kai watch for saving me, you will be missed.
I'm glad that this vid got the recognition it deserved so that you, my dear, could bring justice for this wonderful franchise.
I feel like Yo Kai Watch really started getting good at around the 3rd game and it started to feel like, yeah this is what feels right for a game like this
The beta design of Noko is adorable... YES NOKO IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE YO KAI. IT'S ADORABLE! LOOK AT DAT SMILE
what about Pandanoko? Do you like him?
@@BlazeK9 the cutest noko next to starry noko
@@Chara_Dreemurr1 I agree. If only he wasn't a pain to get.
@@BlazeK9 true.
@@BlazeK9I Street Pass myself for Panda Noko…
Dude, I LOVED this video! great work, keep going ❤
Tbh since both games are distributed by nintendo i always wanted a pokémon and yo-kai watch crossover
(I still hope for it, dreaming costs nothing)
How would Kyubi and Frostail work with Ninetales?
I sincerely hope you cover the sequels, they're definite improvements over the first game
Or, you could just get framed if you’re someone who actually remembers daylight savings.
Yo kai watch is one of my favorite game francises with the third game being one of my favorite games ever
