A masterpiece sorely overlooked, and undervalued. Every puzzle has its answer, but why things went downhill so quickly still befuddles me... If only things turned out a different way, for you Level-5 old friend.
The only reason and I mean the only reason Yo-kai Watch 3 flopped is because of its release date. Plain and simple. Everyone had moved on to the switch (except for me) so no one cared at all.
I really wish this series got more love, because YW3 is easily one of the best games I've ever played. There's just so much content that it rivals even my favorite Pokemon games, no joke.
@Chaos Enforcer DHM Exactly, and it's especially great nowadays because Gen 8 and 9 barely have ANY content. And in terms of quality, Yo-kai Watch wins.
I still havent completed the third game. I had a bad save happen during a transfer that killed my save. I wonder how the post game is. I was at the part on a side quest where I would have gotten that yokai that was have human/zombie with what looked like a mechanized blade.
Yo-Kai Watch was such a big part of my childhood. It was my first glimpse into RPG games and it's what inspired me to become an artist. It's a shame that it wasn't as popular in the US.
8:09 I’ve always loved that part, because it’s kinda a direct reference to Level-5 themselves Edit: Also, stan No-Bot, he’s the best character in the whole game
Picking this game last year was the best decision I made for the last get to get before the eshop closes. I am surprised of how much I liked it. There is so much to do, the music is great and the story was good. It will be a while until I do everything avaliable. Great video!
Another fantastic video! Amazing work! 12:50 Tile placement actually DOES matter. Physical attackers do 10% more damage while standing on frontmost tiles and magic attackers do 10% more damage standing on the back tiles. They do cover that in the tutorial but it would be nice if the UI would show that.
This was honestly a really fun series retrospective to binge. Yo-Kai Watch 3 is definitely my favorite mainline game of the series. (Note: I haven’t had a chance to play 4 or the other Switch releases.) It adds so much to what the 1st and 2nd games are built on with a great story, awesome characters, and a really good soundtrack. Plus I enjoy all the American tropes and stereotypes thrown in. It’s a real shame the series as a whole flopped in the West. I’m definitely glad I preordered a physical copy when they first revealed it.
I remember when yo-kai watch blasters released and I got red cat corps and not white dog squad and the worst part is my dad asked me if I wanted that game and I said, "No thanks, I'm fine with this one!" Years later I have every physical copy of the game except white dog squad, and I still regret it to this day.
I remember the night I started playing this game. When my downloaded copy was able to be played, I finished the first chapter at 5 A.M. EST. I'm currently almost finished with everything in this game. Money well spent. 💛
Straight up didn’t even know about the games release outside of a short ad on TH-cam and by then the game was already being sold for double it’s asking price
YKW3 is the best game on the 3ds, it’s my No. 1 game for total time played (377 hours and 45 minutes) and I’ve put 93 hours 57 minutes into the Japanese version (it’s really good for learning the language since I’m eager to play YKW4). All in all, it deserved better

As someone who pretty much 100% the game, (Did Every Quest, completed the Medallion), I have a love hate relationship with this game. It's my favorite game of all time, but I'll never understand why these 80 hour+ RPGs feel the need to have the most unnecessary padding I've ever seen. It feels like some sort of inside joke that you have to do the Yells Kitchen dungeon not only everytime you want to unlock a new area, but whether or not you get a new area in of itself is random. Or the fact I had to grind running up and down a loading zone to get the Mushroom Lady to spawn for hours. Or the fact there are some Yo Kai hidden away in some 1% random encounter every time you use a Train, and you still have to go through the random chance of befriending them. We’re finally here. The best game on Nintendo 3DS, and the final installment in the Yo-Kai Watch series in America. Level 5 has just announced a comeback, but we don’t know if Yo-Kai Watch is part of it, yet.
I feel like Yo-kai Watch 3 is the most underrated of the series, since is also my favorite Yo-kai Watch, it's like, SOOOOOOOOO BIG AND- oh yeah all I need to say is basically the entire video
It's a shame that Inaho(or Haily Anne) doesn't get that much love. In Yo kai watch Music note(the recent anime), Usapyon made tons of appearances without her. I heard she is not well received by japanese audiences which sucks cause she is one my absolute favourite characters in Yo kai Watch and way more interesting than Fumi(or Katie).
Glad to see someone still making content about Yokai Watch, found it through my discord server and couldn't be happier. Very well made video! Subscribed!
It's really good to see someone that also has YKW3 as their favorite game in the series, i do too, and it's really sad to see so many people disliking this game. Every single person I know that played Yo-kai Watch games say 1 or 2 is their favorite and they also go on to say how much they don't like the third game, and almost always they only like more the first two games because they played it first and are biased towards them. Is that bad? Not really. But when they use it as a way to nitpick or hate 3 and overlook the things it offers because it's different from the earlier games, it just makes me MAD. That said though, I'm glad you love this game, as it just makes the video even better to watch, seeing that you did a really great job with these on YKW. Good luck with the next retrospectives on this series dude! Looking forward to them. Edit: And by the way, if Level-5 decides to port another game to Switch like they did with the first game, i hope it's this one as it deserves another chance. I don't really care if they skip YKW2 seeing as that game was TECHNICALLY the peak of the series, at least in terms of sale, so it really got time to shine. YKW3 not as much, so even though this franchise is really not popular right now, if more people who didn't got it before get access to it, it will make me feel really happy, even if not many do.
Thanks for the support! Honestly, I'm a bit surprised there is a section of the community that doesn't like 3 a whole lot lol, I always had it as my clear cut favourite since it came out over here so it's interesting to see the more critical opinions.
The biggest thing that hurt this game was the VERY limit release. At my local Gamestop they only had 2 copy of the game and they were perorder. Luckly I was one of them but there were a good size of parents who want to buy the game but couldnt because the Gamestop had no more. I know you could digital buy it most of the parent had to be show how to do it by the employee.
theres soooo many legendary groups in this game, and one you seem to have skipped over, the treasure legends like El Dorago and Meowpatra. Love this game man.
Yokai Watch was way better than Pokemon I'm ngl. Just a shame that atleast in my country, it felt like it took so long for Yokai Watch 3 to release that by the time it did I had already 100% Yokai watch psychic specters I really just gave up on waiting haha. Now Yokai Watch 4 is nothing like the prequels lol.
This game introduced a lot of yokai I liked, a shame more people haven't played it. It's really fun, and loaded with content. I bought it like 3 years ago, and I can still go back and find new stuff I haven't done.
This game is my favorite game of all time. The battle mechanics are 100% a step up imo and i love the 3x3 grid thing. The story is goated. And the game is packed to the brim with content. More people need to play this game.
This is truly one of the greatest games I’ve ever played. There a solid handful of games I like better than it but zero games have made me feel the same way yo Kai watch 3 did. It’s probably in no small part to being younger but what a game. It’s so much better than anything Pokémon’s released and I so sorely wish that it would have stayed around in the west.
@Chrominize it really comes down to it being rushed and unpolished plus the major factor of the treasure rates being dumbed down enormously in that game.
Great video! I got this game a few weeks ago after not being invested in the series in years and it’s amazing. It’s a shame that physical copies are so rare now, I remember seeing a bunch of them in stores around 2019 but never picking one up because at the time my 3ds was broken. (I regret it a lot now). With the eshop shutting down as well it just makes me sad to think that such a great game will become even less accessible here in the united states.
This game is truly a masterpiece! I’ve always loved this series and I spent countless hours playing this game back in 2019. Hell, I think this game is the most rare/ expensive game I own!
Yokai watch was the closest we got to a dragon quest monsters on 3DS. I still cant believe we never got the remake of DQM2-Cobi's Quest/Tara's Adventure...
Am I the only one who gets Marathon's Martin Mystery vibes from this game? You solve mysteries, Nate's clothing looks similar to that of Martin and zombie night text style reminds me a lot of the show's logo.
Martin also uses a watch to bring out his gadgets, and in the game the player use the dream watch to power up certain gadgets(like the blaster or the drill), so yeah they are quiet similar.😄
FINALLY someone talking about this fantastic game! The soundtrack is extremely fun, the game is colorful, adorable visuals and good new characters (I love you Hailey--)
man, this game was absolutely stacked.. the level-5 polish was full on with this one. never managed to complete it as there was just so much to do, but man what a game. will always be praying for a remaster at some point as it really just didn't catch on over in the west ;
3 is so good, I just didn’t replay it as much as 2, since I was kinda sick of the 3DS at that point. This video was originally gonna release on my Birthday, but it’s good to have part 4 regardless!
The one thing I personally never liked about Yokai-Watch 3 was just how many of the merican yokai were just based off food. Huge missed opportunity of a line of yokai inspired by Cryptids. Alongside that, I think it was a shame just how little the Merican Yokai Boss theme played in the game.
I literally love this series so much, it’s so much fun. This game was so entertaining. I still remember playing Blasters T with people online. Yo Kai Watch 3, Blasters, and Animal Crossing New Leaf are my favorite 3ds games🤭

But also to keep in note that in other languages, BBQ is still called the USA and the original hometown of the protagonist is whatever country their game language originates in. Pretty cool! It makes sense, but I couldn't piece it together myself lol.
Yeah, I did hear about how it is in other languages, I just wasn't really sure how to weave it into the script so I just kinda skipped out on bringing it up.
Man, one day I'm gonna have to finish YW3. I stopped after getting halfway through New Yo-kai Watch city and haven't picked it up in almost 3 years since. I once did a few trades, but haven't done anything yet.
It’s an amazing game, I played it about a month ago and really enjoyed it a lot. I’d say the one big BIG missed opportunity Level-5 made was not adding American myths to the game. I would fucking kill for a Mothman yokai
TBH I stopped playing Yokai watch 3 during chapter 5, because I didnt want to burn out but then I stopped playing for so long that I forgot what I was doing LOL. Im replaying it on the second file and I'm hoping that I can revisit it more then I do yokai watch 2. Also TH-cam didnt notify me of your video until 2 weeks later like wtf my guy
I find the pony frenzy to be quite useful, as its essentially staminum run but forever until you crash into a wall. also yellskitchen sounds reallly familiar. hmmmmmm
I wished I played yo Kai watch 3 but I am not being serious only one store in like Rhode Island miles away had the game, that when I started to think yo Kai watch was dieing compared to the last to games which were every were.
So fun fact about how big this game is: this was the first thing I bought when I got my New 3DS XL. The game flat out couldn’t be downloaded because it was bigger than the default amount of space on New 3DS XL. You need an SD card for it to even work.
For some reason the algorithm has been chucking me Yokai Watch video essays today, though I've only played Wibble Wobble years back (it was peak). This sole game looks like it has more content than the combined main-series of Pokémon since Sun & Moon, what the hell?
Heres my opinion on both the trains and rafting. Fun every once in a while, but definitely a horrible idea to lock Yo-Kai behind it. Tigappa with the Rafting adventures Agon with trains Tip: Haily Anne's /Inaho's train tides feel on average shorter then Nate's. Saying this as someone who got both Statiking and Agon through this method
Yo kai watch 3 haunts me the yo kai watch series was my childhood and the fact i haven't been able to or may never be able to play the 3rd one bugs me so much
The physical copies of this game are extremely rare and real soon they will be the only way to play it since the eShop is closing. Despite probably being the best of the Yo-Kai Watch series, it got screwed over horribly in the market. This is gonna end up being the Tail Concerto/Misadventures of Tron Bonne of the 3DS
Yo kai watch 3 was my favorite game in the main series but there's a major issue I have with the game its the fact that wobblewok (the best thing to ever exist in any game ever) isn't a boss anymore 0/10 game!
The one thing I wish they had done differently with the localized version is not have to pick a version within a version, like, why couldn't ours just have all the yo-kai in this version without having to trade or do any of that stuff?
One of, if not, the best game I've ever played. Certainly better than Gen 8. The only thing I dislike is that they kept key quests in, though it is better than it was in ykw2.
A masterpiece sorely overlooked, and undervalued. Every puzzle has its answer, but why things went downhill so quickly still befuddles me... If only things turned out a different way, for you Level-5 old friend.
Yeah it's weird how the series kind of just dropped off the way it did, it's a huge shame too.

Thanks man!
My favourite thing about terror times first encounter in 3 is... how Hailey is just fangirling about meeting gargaros.
Yokai watch my beloved, this series captured my heart, it rivals Pokémon, but sadly the west thought it was a Pokémon ripoff
I have came to pay my respects.
Man, Yokai watch = a part of my childhood. WOnder where it went
TH-cam is insane sometimes lmao
I find the pony frenzy to be quite useful, as its essentially staminum run but forever until you crash into a wall. also yellskitchen sounds reallly familiar. hmmmmmm
it would be cool to see "Yokai" from neighboring countries likes Dokkaebi from Korea and the Anito from Philippines
i have a yo kai watch 3 physical copy somewhere and i only learned it was valuable yesterday
I wished I played yo Kai watch 3 but I am not being serious only one store in like Rhode Island miles away had the game, that when I started to think yo Kai watch was dieing compared to the last to games which were every were.
My personal favourite of the series is yo-kai watch 2 psychich specters, but I can see why someone would prefer this game
Ykw 3 is truly amazing
I wish there was a way to like videos twice ❤
Heres my opinion on both the trains and rafting. Fun every once in a while, but definitely a horrible idea to lock Yo-Kai behind it.
Tigappa with the Rafting adventures
Agon with trains
Tip: Haily Anne's /Inaho's train tides feel on average shorter then Nate's. Saying this as someone who got both Statiking and Agon through this method
Buck is peak human yokai watch characters
True!
It would be interesting if you did character analysis vids of some of Yo-Kai Watch's characters
That's a good idea! I'll consider it.
I'm a really big fan of this franchise. I even bought a physical copy for 20 Bucks at the time, now It's expensive af.
Yo kai watch 3 my beloved, I love my physical copy
Best game on the 3rd for yokai watch
I managed to snag Yo-kai Watch 3 and White Dog Blasters just before the 3DS eShop went down glad I remembered
9:14 How do I have like 380 hours in ykw3 and never even noticed that Hailey Anne sounds like alien
Yo kai watch 3 was my favorite game in the main series but there's a major issue I have with the game its the fact that wobblewok (the best thing to ever exist in any game ever) isn't a boss anymore 0/10 game!
Fair criticism tbh
@@Chrominize I got a question
My favorite game from the series for all of the stuff in it
It sure does have a lot!
99% of my hours had went into blasters T such a good mode
I prefer Yo-kai Watch Blasters or Yo-kai Watch 2 but Yo-kai Watch 3 is definitely still -good- amazing! 🤩
Was not expecting X-files at all
It's a really fun reference lol
clown time is absolutely horrifying lol
I wanted to get to kai watch 3 soo badly 😢
After playing Bada-Bing Tower, I can confirm 3 ain't Level-5's Magnum Opus. (Honestly Gera Gera Land/Psychic Specters was...)
The one thing I wish they had done differently with the localized version is not have to pick a version within a version, like, why couldn't ours just have all the yo-kai in this version without having to trade or do any of that stuff?
i am glad that i got two physical copies of yokai watch 3 before they became rare
One of, if not, the best game I've ever played. Certainly better than Gen 8. The only thing I dislike is that they kept key quests in, though it is better than it was in ykw2.
No way is that yo-kai watch 3, the best game on the 3ds?
It is!
Funny thing, this is the only yo-kai watch game that I havent played
Is it because it’s too expensive nowadays?
@@juliannocartagena2007 nah, its just that I never got the chance to buy it
