Its always great seeing yak23 representation. I've been fully convinced that gaijin has completely forgotten that this thing and the yak30 exist for like 2 years now, and the recent br changes proved that to me. Its great fun to play them as well cause people never see em, so they don't know how to fight em.
I’d say the biggest downside of this plane is the low ammo count and low speed. At that BR most planes just zoom right pass you and the German planes can outright shoot you with guided missiles.
thank you for making me play this beast i love it even tho its stock and im pretty bad at dogfighting. i tought this thing was just another random plane in the techtree but no i was completly wrong
@@Kaelsier true i love it one down side i have about it is low ammo but that is easily versed by tapping the fire key but having good aim to hit those shots isn't. one more thing do you have a discord server for us?
Just bought this soviet ariete) Having a great time soo far. You can more or less reliably kill most subsonics (especially F-86, G-91 and A-4 swarms... Such a great food...), but things like F-104 are your kryptonite. You basically can't kill it, if player on the other side have half of the brain cell working. Only option in such case is to just ground pound, evading their attacks, IMO.
To think there was a time when this plane went up against mustangs, bearcats, spitfires and other prop planes. Now it can fight modern jets with ease and the only thing it has to worry about is guided missiles
@@corvettezone1771 usually doesnt take that long to kill one, so i dont think so. i usually pounce on them when they go high, though they sometimes stay fast and escape me
You run. Get up to over 600 and engage at high speeds. The ki is insane at low speed dogfights, so you have to get it to speeds where it compresses to kill it, and if you dont then just keep away from them.
Played this during real shatter. It was hell. Every. Single. Game. Was me vs 5 just dodging for 5 minutes getting hit after hit until 1 of them got me.
Nah playing 100% by the book the 23 wins almost every dogfight, it's more fun making people stall and to then pull their wings off while it happens. I honestly misjudged how quick the 29 was gonna bleed there, but that just made the fight that much more fun to play AND watch.
It’s a Zero with a jet engine. While some people may be saying that’s a good thing, it really isn’t. The Zero is so much slower than everything it fights it relies ENTIRELY on the enemies being bad in order ro acore kills. Same story here. If you come across a MiG-17 who doesn’t just straight up start turning with you, you will be dead sooner or later. All the skill in the world doesn’t give you more thrust, so just like a Zero, this plane is good at punishing noobs and shit at fighting anyone who has some grey matter in their skull.
It's not just like a zero because it also has excellent energy retention and acceleration, so you cannot energy trap it. The only option faster aircraft have is to avoid fighting it altogether. It's the ultimate support fighter, excellent at third-partying and punishing noobs but unable to force any engagement on its own
Honestly the best part about it is the fact that no one wants to be caught slow around it, so its a VERY good deterrent. If they are good enough to see you above them, they will run, and if not they aren't a concern.
playing the yak23 is a lot of fun until an F104 appears and then you just dont get to play the game anymore but thats just an issue with 8.7 in general ive genuinely had a good amount of fun flying the yak23 at 10.0 and dogfighting F4s, F5s, and A10s, way more engaging than existing in the same match as an F104

So you can choose the distance that you are sighted at brother. I dont see the point in zeroing for anything under 500m since its basically shotgunning at that point.
@@rayzone_0092 yes, having vertical on adds an arc to it. Setting that to the optimal distance between you and a target in a dogfight makes your shots SUPER easy to land, but if you set it to not include vertical its just like a dribble of a shot.
@@Kaelsier afaik it doesn't work when your turning, it litterally just makes your guns mounted at an upwards angle on the plane, so if you turn sideways you still need to account for drop anyways. So idk what the goal of using it is here
@@jevry4307 The goal here is to give you an easier time aiming with the guns instead of dealing with the sub-par droopy cannon ballistics the soviets have. at least with some lift to the cannons you can take shots on people in turn fights, and in headons without having to look at the moon to do it. its also a lot better to have vertical targeting when you are playing simulator as well so you can actually see the things you are fighting.
@@Kaelsier It was pretty good in the old game meta, where top tier was mig 15s and f sabres, rn i think its a little gimped in the ceiling of doing a lot. at 8.7-9.3 there planes that just cancel you w out much effort, namely ayits, swiss hunters and harriers, all of which have extremely good missiles, great accel and high speeds, leaving you to 3rd partying people which ykno, doesn't really flex what the yak23 has, at a downtier its very stompy, at an uptier its dead, and the cannons have been nerfed to shit Not to mention russian teams 💀 also the bit about the soviets is a little wrong, the yak23 wasn't a frontline fighter by any measure, it was a very ok stopgap until the mig15/la15s were introduced, both of which showed better performance than the yak23

The 9.0 br area is horribly set up with subsonics having to fight supersonics all the time.
Just 70 rounds is criminal
Not a great experience, though it does force you to learn trigger discipline 👍
Honestly it's plenty of ammo , I don't run out too often
Personally I think the yak 23 is an absolute monster , getting 5 kill games is not awfully rare , easily my favorite plane
This thing is a feather with teeth, just has trouble getting up to speeds in uptiers, though everything has that problem
I’d say the biggest downside of this plane is the low ammo count and low speed. At that BR most planes just zoom right pass you and the German planes can outright shoot you with guided missiles.
Yeah, the speed and acceleration (especially dives due to low weight) has got to be the biggest downside next to the ammo count
@@Kaelsier I loved the video nonetheless. Very high quality content 🫡

Thoughts on which is better, the ariete or the yak 23?
The reason it doesn’t have combat flaps is because it’s meant to intercept bombers it first flew in 47.
Its only real combat experience was intercepting an IL-28 as well.

the yak-23 just got its takeoff flaps! so you don't have to juggle the flaps as much now. gonna have to finally give this plane a try now
@sneakycactus8815 glad that it's getting some love after so long. Needed flaps badly
If anyone is wondering, the music he used in the background is a variation of the Girl From Ipanema by Stan Getz.
It's from Jschlatt's list of free music

Sounds like you had American teams (live more than 2 seconds challenge: Impossible)
What about Yak-15 & Yak-17, are they any good?
By the way, the joke about Svaldbard seed vault is just... the next level
the guy who made the copyright comment didnt like it
But the Yak 15 and 17 are ok as long as you only turnfight other jets
