Yes they effectively killed him. Good chance his life might have been saved with oxygen, theophlin and injection of steroids all of which are certain to have been in the ambulance 🚑. Once injected the steroids to help breathing take near immediate effect to help the breathing. As in after injection of steroid effect to help the breathing can possibly start in 60 seconds. They oxygen ,theophlin in mask and steroid injection should have been administered as soon as the ambulance 🚑 arrived to help him rather than to intentionally allow him to remain in distress continuing to die while they drive him to the hospital. That's why all the crap in the ambulance 🚑 known as medicine and the oxygen is in the ambulance 🚑. Otherwise it is a cab pretending to be an ambulance with staff who do not know how to do the job.

"that is not how it works" they told me after they dumped me in the ER of the hospital that would not service me without a gag. As a retired EMT and ER nurse, just listening to this man grunt, struggling to breathe and what the EMT said that the man grabbed for the O2, sure appeared that he had a PE (pulmonary embolus). This is a true medical emergency! Those EMT's should be tried for murder. The man grabbed for oxygen because he was scared because he was having a hard time breathing. In my dealings with PE patients, they have a sense of impending doom. This is so sad.

I just saw a video of police manhandling and arresting a man who was in a confused post ictal (after having a seizure) state for "attacking a police officer." I would normally say you need trained medical personnel for a medical call, but this video shows that even medical personnel can be abusive. In fact it is highly likely if you try to save someone drowning, they will push you under and possibly drown you.

I am a retired paramedic. The EMS crew is totally incompetent. The man was obviously having respiratory issues. Sometimes when you can’t get oxygen you become anxious and combative. I once had a head injured patient kick my ass the whole way to the hospital because he was disoriented from the head injury not because he was being nasty. At least the police finally decided this gentleman needed help. This is patient abandonment.

While I do agree with most of what you said, if the guy was, for any reason, putting the health and safety of the EMTs at risk, they are will within their right to ask for police assistance and put him in restraints before treating any further. I'm not trained as an EMT, but I have had basic first aid training and the first thing I was taught was to never put myself at risk to treat a patient. Doing so can just add another victim for other EMTs to have to rescue.
What would have happened if that out of control patient you described, while kicking your ass, knocked you unconscious? How would he get any more treatment then? Now you'd need another TWO ambulances and EMTs to take both YOU AND your patient to the hospital! Where they went wrong was in not paying attention to the patient while sorting out what was going on and making sure to offer him treatment with police on hand to retain him if he starts acting up or panicking again. It's the PUNISHMENT mentality in our justice systems (both USA and Canada) that's the problem. What should have happened is the cops should have assessed the situation, realized it's a panicking man, and offer to be available to put him in restraints if his behaviour endangers the EMTs again, so they can treat him in safety. Those stretchers have tie downs and restraints on them for a reason, so if a patient's thrashing about for any reason, they can lay him down on the stretcher and tie him/her down to prevent too much thrashing about so they can treat the patient more safely.

This worst part of this: the fact that the EMTs clearly had no idea what was happening to the patient so instead of finding out they kicked him off the ambulance. But the fact that it took more than 2 minutes before anyone responded after he collapsed. Disgusting.

I don’t know about the particular state laws or department policy, but in many cases there are obligations on officers to render aid as long as there is no threat to themselves and nothing else taking priority; clearly, as they were standing around, nothing else was taking priority. I was trailed as a lifeguard many years ago. One of the characteristics of a drowning person or a person who cannot breathe is that they will grab the nearest available person to save them. Both the Paramedics and the Police are wilfully negligent. The Paramedics and Police Officers need to be prosecuted, convicted and sentenced to prison for negligent homicide. Also the Paramedics, the ambulance company, the Police Officers and Police Department need to be sued for both actual damages and punitive damages. The fact that this is a case of willful, deliberate criminal negligence should be sufficient to eliminate any sort of immunity. This was criminal behavior on the part of the Police and Paramedics.

People are soft nowadays. This safe space culture created this. Soft people are evil. Everytime I've met a soft spoken person, they turned out to be evil, treacherous, sociopaths. I'm sure not all. But, my belief is that true cowards gain trust and sympathy by playing the role of a soft spoken, shy, gentleman. Then when given the chance will try to inflict harm on anybody they envy. It happened to me with one of my neighbors in 2017. This guy kept his head down, spoke kindly and shyly. That same guy would follow me and attack me at a convenience store for no reason. He must've been high on something to think he could take me, someone much bigger. After I chased him away, he called the police on ME! Then the police arrested me for no reason and took me to the hospital where more cowards would smother me by pushing down on my nose and mouth with their hands. It hurt because of the pressure and inability to breathe. Doctors, nurses, EMTs, and other hospital workers are all just cowards who pursue that work for the pay and to play God among men. That wasn't the first time I was abused in a hospital while being there involuntarily. I also had this fat little looking troll of a nurse (looked like the Penguin from Batman Returns) do the same, and say that he wouldn't let me leave the hospital until I showed him some respect. I just wish I had his name and address so I can catch him by himself someday. People get awfully strong when you're strapped down and can't defend yourself. After all these incidents, I despise hospital workers and it's another incentive to take care of my health. I don't want to be at a sadistic coward's mercy.

@@margitwes6495 What law specifically says an EMT MUST continue care in a situation where they feel they are in danger? I don't disagree that she likely is simply terrible at her job and given what ended up happening it seems likely that the dude was in fact merely acting out in desperation vs actually posing anything close to a threat. But does the law actually support what you lay out here? Civil Rights Lawyer here does not specify any actual laws that would have been violated by the actions of those on scene.
And does it make a difference that she essentially transfered the victim over to the control/care of law enforcement? She didnt pull over and just kick him out. They had cops come out and told cops what transpired and the cops ordered him out of the bus. At that point, it can be argued that the victim was being detained by law enforcement and the EMT's no longer had the responsibility of care for him, the cops did. If the cops chose not to ensure he was transported for medical attention, at that point I would think it could be argued any negligence would be primarily on the shoulders of law enforcement, not the ambulance workers.
It's an interesting situation for sure. The fact the city isnt taking any action says a LOT. The fact there apparently is no standard policy in place in this dept or with this ambulance service(are THEY with the city i wonder? Or a private outfit) to deal with a hard to control person who needs emergency care is downright shocking. Someone high up with the police dept, the ambulance service(or fire dept if this is with the city) and likely some city officials on some level as well should lose their jobs over such pisspoor governance.
