For those of you who will say, "he should have complied...," I agree, the officer should have complied with the Constitution. Police play stupid games and the taxpayers win stupid prizes.

You will literally have video of a cop doing one thing and testifying to the opposite and they take the cops testimony as gospel truth… “the video is lying not the cop”.
It’s so absurd. But they do it through fear. “LoOk aT LiBeRaL jUdGeS leTtInG cRimAnAls oUt On tHe StReEtS” when they are protecting peoples rights. But some would rather kill 99 innocent people to get a single guilty person.

That is exactly why outside of crazy people or someone who is just a real mcasshole people are happy to see people in those positions. Y'all showing up usually means a little releaf from the stress of the situation. Y'all are the people we know are there to save the day as well as it can be anyway. With most situations I would rather be able to see a paramedic about whatever is wrong then a doctor. I know I would rather have an IV inserted by you then any doctor. Fireman are the same. When they show up they are almost always big strong men who don't do the job for the money for sure. Y'all are all not paid enough for what you're worth for sure. Police forget protect and serve is why they are there. A perametic has a bad day someone can die but not intentionally. A cop has a bad day they can actually choose for someone to unalive just because they are in a bad mood. We thank military for their service but people often forget to thank you for yours. Cops SCREAM at the top of their lungs "GET ON THE GROUND!" or one minute the cop is fine, then something pisses the cop off, he loses his cool & the next thing you know is they are on the ground with the cop screaming "stop resisting!" even though it's clear the person isn't resisting. In a lot of videos you can hear the person repeating that he's not resisting as more cops pile on him even though he's already subdued on the ground. The other cops scream "Stop resisting!" even though he's not resisting. They say it to justify their action of 4, 5, 6 cops putting their full weight on a man laying on the ground. With that much weight on your torso, it's impossible to take air into your lungs. It's a show - theatrics - by cops to make it look like the person they are detaining is doing something horribly wrong & cops had no choice.

Officer Keith Edmonds, a Pittsburgh police officer, was involved in a controversial incident in October 2021, where he repeatedly used a Taser on Jim Rogers, a homeless man, who later died12. Unfortunately if you sue the cop, you'll never get your money. The courts can only judge against the cop and allow you to go after his assets. But if he doesn't have any you're SOL. All a judgement does is damage his credit for 10 years and you get to bring him to court for discovery of bank accounts. Easy fix for him, just move the money. There's no law that will put anyone in jail because you owe money for a judgement. Thus why you sue the city since he acted while on the job. It sucks that it's taxpayer's money but it is better for the victim's family so they can get paid after judgement without any hassle.

The problem is that Qualified Immunity - which protects cops from being sued in almost every case - is not really a set of laws that can be changed. It was not created by Congress or a President. It was created by the SCOTUS. This is why most lawsuits are against cities and Police Departments (QI protects all civil servants, not just LEO's). In the few cases where police are successfully sued they are often protected from paying up by several "legal issues" (not QI) and, in any case, as they do not require Insurance to be officers they normally could not pay any settlement beyond the value of their own property. For Congress or a president to get rid of QI is possible but would be fraught with difficulty as once such a law was passed SCOTUS would then get to rule on whether that law is to be allowed ... and it is unlikely they would consider any law that overrules the rules they made (and have protected in every court challenge since then) as being legal and enforceable.

@@HeyBruceAlmighty One solution could be to introduce mandatory insurance for police officers, from which damages would be covered instead of the city budget. And if you're completely blacklisted by insurance companies because of the risk you pose, well, tough luck, find another job.

What would that really do? Qualified immunity only means you can sue the PD, not the officer as an individual. If you abolished this, every single cop would be required to carry insurance, which for certain would be funded by us taxpayers. I doubt it’s going to steer behavior differently. Qualified immunity doesn’t keep cops out of jail if they committed a crime. They just need to be held accountable for crimes.

It protects them. They need to abolish this law. And let the victim sue them personally they'll stop this B. S.

@@Tallie90 with insurance policies paid for by us the taxpayer (the unions would 100% not budge on that issue), do you really think it will steer behavior? Would be so much better IMO to fire cops who break protocol and violate rights, and to imprison those who assault suspects in a non-defense situation. I don’t think QI has any impact whatsoever
