i use a 2500 exist SF on 6ft5 rod.. evergreen salty sensation rod is 60 grams and reel is 140 grams so just about 200 grams total weight.. extremely light but the price was heavy i fish for salt bass maybe under 3 pounds up to 4 pounders but our bay bass dont get up to like 8 to 10 pounds.. we also have bonefish and sea bass and bonita and other fish that's in 1 to 5 pounds mostly the game fish.. i was thinking ultra light but i got the light set up since i power fish and mainly use lures 2.5 to 6 grams fish on my boat so i let some of my lures drift away with the current and its hard to set a hook on a fish on ultralight when the lure is very far away.. ultra light and super light tackle is so fun..
Sick setups 👌 I actually found some blanks to seem pretty similar. Might build something up. Are your rods 1piece btw? That would make them even more crazy 😅
Nice ultra light rod and reel combos my friend I love going Pier fishing out her in California I love your videos I enjoy seeing your slow Jiggs and fast Jiggs luers video what is your favorite rod and reel combo for Pier fishing
Awesome thank you! I dont pier fish a lot these days, but off a pier, I would a rod and reel that's fit for the fish im fishing for - so if I am after say - spanish macks, I would use a medium light setup for casting, or a shorter surf rod - kind of difficult since the piers here are off limits, so can't really fish them. I would bump up the size if I am after bigger fish but, this is pretty much what I used back home when I pier fished a lot.
Hello Kit you have been most helpful and thank you for your videos! What is the extension on the reel opposite of the handle and what is the purpose? I’ve never seen this in the US
hey Kit, would you mind doing a video on joining ultra light leaders to ultra light braid ? Ive had a couple of failures using the FG knot, and "knot" sure what i am doing wrong. thanks in advance
@@TheDerek1976 Are you using fluorocarbon? The braid is kind of too thick for the leader and you might be over tightening if you are using mono, it will bite onto the mono, FC is a bit harder and might be able to take the bite more.
From your experience, the optimum rod length here is the 8 or 7 foots range , or below ? Talking here about casting and pulling fish … also for the line what is optimum PE , casting and catching … etc ? Can we use straight all the way very thin mono line like 6lb or below ?
If fihing from shore, as what these combos are for, you want them as long a lengh as you can find them - i use 8'6 foor ultralight rods, they are not easy to find though. That takes care of the distance. Pulling fish depends on your line, your drag setting and how you fight the fish. Mono will not give you diatance - braid will.
Hello kit! Can I ask something about what are the pros and cons of having a hollow carbon and a solid carbon tips? About 7ft rods. Thank you for the answer
Solid carbon can cast lighter lures and are more sensitive also quite flexible at the tip tubular is more traditional, a bit stiff on the tip and are essentially more trouble free. Solid carbon tipped rods are a bit specialist and quite specific for their use - if thats what you are looking for them they will serve you well but are kinda fragile.
@@TheFishingKit thanks for the answer kit. I usually use minnows mostly 5g and do shore casting. What rod you recommend of the 2? The hollow or the solid?
can i use a small reel with 8kg max drag for ultralight? I can't find good enough budget price for a decent UL reel that's affordable at my place, I have this.. look small enough to be UL setup but its 8 pounds max drag.
Fantastic Kit, why does the reel have one bit sticking out on the other side? Standard setup my part of the world ,is pe 2,3 lots of rocks, but the action is the same , love to see the difference in the gear . Do get the Africa style surf rods?👍😁
Have a few of the african Surf rods, Billy :) the bit on the opposite side of the reel is called a reel stand. Keeps the reel off sand and rocks when you lay it down
There were some for sale here before - kind of went out of fashion. The last ones I bought, I had to buy from South Africa. Well worth it! :) even the "cheap" ones are very light.

it's called a "reel stand" common in Japan,.
hey Kit, would you mind doing a video on joining ultra light leaders to ultra light braid ? Ive had a couple of failures using the FG knot, and "knot" sure what i am doing wrong. thanks in advance
Hi Derek, that's a common problem actually. How light is your leader?
@@TheFishingKit 10 to15lb attached to 8 kilo braid
The FG never holds when I tighten the knot...

Where can I get those rods in the states?
It is tough looking for these rods in the US. A friend of mine had to import them from Japan.

what's the biggest fish you've caught with these set up?
I would say around 4kg perhaps? I don't really fish for big fish with these as I use them mostly for bream.
interesting lmao
