    Glad I found this channel. I have been an avid shore/kayak jig fisherman for sometime, and your vast knowledge of this style of fishing has added to my education greatly. You throw out some specific info that others never touch on, and it has really helped me get a better understanding of some of the finer points to jigging. Thanks for all the great content. I am also a big fan of the abu garcia rods.

    Your mindset of slow, long fall, and fast jigging setups being a system is helpful - rather than obsessing about which techniques is "best", I now have a better understanding of the tradeoffs between techniques.

      There are similar videos, but they are all selling, and honestly, some sellers like those in areas of the world, where this type of fishing is relatively new, are questionable. I thought it would be a good idea to actually have a useful one for a change. ;)

    I need some expert Majorcraft rods advice - I current use a FirstCast (FCS 962M) for shore jigging, but I've been really thinking I need the Crosride 5G (XR5-942ML/LSJ). Its a bit lighter, but would it cast and/or give better action than my FCS? would you make the investment? (triple the price)

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Crossride is their top end, while First Cast's concept is quite simple - when you start fishing it is the line of rods you...FIRST CAST...get it? The actions are beginner friendly, as is the price.

      @@TheFishingKit Hiya Kit! Just re-watched this vid after spending the last month or so trying to develop the jigging side of my kayak fishing. I have to say, there is so much information in your video! After making my own mistakes and putting some things into practice I can grasp the things you said much more clearly now. Let me give you an example. I found an Abu Garcia Salty Stage jigging rod going cheap in a 2nd hand fishing store. It said it can handle jigs up to 200g, so I thought "great, I can pair it with my new Torium 2000." (you're probably way ahead of me now!). So I tried it out and of course, with the rod being a spinning rod with a large first guide, and the reel having no line-guide, it made putting line back on the reel when reeling a lot of line in, a nightmare! I'd always thought the bigger line guides on the rods were for helping to cast - I hadn't considered that small line guides help when winding in on relatively small jigging reels. Fortunately I have a spare spinning reel to pair with the Abu rod, so the purchase won't go to waste!

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the depth you are fishing. You can effectively use PG reels in depths of up to 50M. after 50M, the stretch of the line will start to become a problem, as with the ability of the reel to take more line to move the jig effectively. After 50M, an HG reel is better.

    Hey, Im getting into brackish/salt from a pier, south Sweden. Often it’s very windy and in the straight there is always strong current. To a void my line making a big bow, im planning out this medium spinning setup. Rod will have to be 11-12ft (3.6m), jigs are 40-80g + sabiki, to ensure distance in wind and reasonable contact. Depth is 20m, but mackerel and gar are both pelargic/top water fish. The line will be PE-1/1.5 or maybe even thinner+ fluro shock leader ~0.5-0.6mm. The spinning reel will be PENN size 3500/4500.
    What’s your take on this?

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can get a proper shore jigging set up, then it will be lighter and the action is suited for the task. There are rods in that range for shore jigging rods. Otherwise, specs are ok.

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sort of but not really, you will need to jerk the rod tip at the of the stroke to snap the jig up. since even long fall rods have a recoil action that snaps the jig up.
      You can try with a regular jig and see how it works, but slow jigging rods have a pronounced recoil action on the tip that flicks the jig upwards to make it do its action. normal rods don't have that recoil.

I know there’s always a compromise. Do you think the normal coltsniper 100h would be more versatile rod to use for both in my intended use?? Thank you man. I have slow and fast jigging rods. It's possible to go fast with slow jigging by using lighter jigs under what is specified, so the action gets faster with a slow rod.
    Also, in the same sense, if you have a light mod-fast jigging rod which is 6 to 7ft rod, you are able to go slow with heavier lures, forcing the rod tip to bend more and with some help from your hands movement.
    Of course, this is about comfort and performing better with the proper equipment, which carries you to get more specialized. What do you think about fast rods with slow jigs and vice versa?

      it boils down to the jigs - there are slow jigs that move fast and fast jigs that move slower than normal. I always say that its a system and both are practically the same, only going different directions. As mentioned, you can use both fast and slow jigs on long fall. Slow jigs will not be able to work 100% on slow jigging rods and vise versa. The actions of the rods are just too different.
      There is a merit to using the right jigs on the right rods. You can not expect everything to work at the best possible level if you mix them. To worry less about mixing and matching things and actually concentrate on catching - just use the right jigs on the right rod, on the right system. This is a Japanese system and quite specific, deviate from a system that has already been refined and you get inconsistent results...or no result at all.

    can i pop or use floating top water sticks with a 8m jigging rod ? basically asking if its ok to cast 60g-100g lures on a jigging rod

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can, but don't except excellent results. Firstly, it is your rod, you can do whatever you want with it. No one can tell you, what you can or you can not do with it. You might not be able to cast as far, or even make the popper work...but if there is a fish that is wanting to strike the popper, even if you don't move it...it will strike the lure. Just don't expect that to happen a lot in your lifetime.

      =)) that was funny. Tell you what, firstly off, if you are having a hard time with slow jigging - it means there is something wrong with your system. When we fish, we don't really get tired from all the jigging, we get tired from fighting the fish.
