Great video. Very informative. Loved how you weren't pushing the most expensive product and gave us alternatives to try. I enjoyed this video and appreciated the content.
Anyone else not only specifically go BFS when out on the bank? I'll always be a backpack guy because im bringing my BFS, my medium crankbait rod, and either a medium heavy or a medium spinning rod. Very rarely do i just leave with BFS. Some days the BFS is hitting but other days its 1/2oz jig heads and crankbait/jerkbait vibes. Its 50lb backpack life for me. Too many times i've been out on the water and been like "DAM! I knew i shouldve brough that 3600/3700 with my ___ in it"
Love tip videos, honestly get as much out of the comments usually. My budget tip would be to buy a rooster tail set that comes in a light duty box, why buy a small box instead of tackle? If you do this at a box sporting goods store take that light duty box to the bag section. Find a buttpack it JUST fits into with your cellphone that is made of heavy material. Sew some leather straps on the front of the buttpack to hold pliers and small sharp nail clippers. The zipper pocket in the front holds ID and fishing licenses and the free box will hold all you need for UL. My mini set has so much in it for that small size. 1 Rapala mini pop 1 Rapala mini minnow 1 Rapala mini crank 1 Rapala mini shad all fit in one slot with multiple mini spinners. The cranks and the plastics tend to eat up the most room and you can fit 2 of each color mule plastic in one of those slots. This leaves you loads of room for everything else.
One of my favorite lakes in my area is one of the most heaviest pressured body of water I’ve ever seen. I fixed it for years and barely caught one here and there. But as soon as I started downsizing to ultralight, I started nailing bass from half a pound like I usually caught up to 5 pounds; which is a very large size for that lake. I figured the best were used to sing all of the regular size lures so I went super small. I’m wondering if I bring my other set up and go extra big if I’d have the same success; 8 to 12 inch swim baits.😂😂
Another super fantastic video, thanks for the ideas! I just got back from a fishing trip at Martha’s Vineyard Massachusetts and when packing for the trip thought it was asinine that I was taking more tackle than clothes, footwear and outerwear! Lol! So I downsized all my tackle to a double sided Plano case and guess what, the selection turned out to be perfect!!! PS, I caught a nice 18” bonito from shore during a blitz too! Jim
I have fallen in love with the FHF gear chest rigs for my ultralight bag set up. Sometimes I use as a chest rig but also have the shoulder strap depending on what I’m doing depends on how I carry it. They also have tons of options on ways to customize them with MOLLE attachment and Velcro on the inside.
I used to fish with ultralight 5-5 inch two piece rods back in the day. I could easily put it in a backpack and ride my bike around Denver and hit a bunch of ponds But onto ice fishing.....
Thanks for the videos!! Make a BFS rod with the same colors, components and style as that spinning rod!! That rod looks awesome and would be sweet as a BFS rod!!
I use an altoids tin, it keeps me from carrying too much stuff. I'm so bummed that I missed you guys making rods. I just came across your channel a couple days ago.
My holiday bonus came in early so I went ahead and ordered the rod. I was worried it would sell out before I could order one. Currently I'll be pairing it with a 1000 size Pflueger President.
Snagged the Shimano Curado 6'10" L BFS rod an SLX BFS reel, but fishing little heavier weight(1/8), 10 lb braid to 6 lb Sunline. Micro jigs, T rigs and BFS topwater.
Any thoughts on a NASCI 2500 with a large diameter (shallow) spool? Will that fit on your rod? I have one coming from Japan for ultralight fishing, and I like the looks of your UL rod.
@@aaanglers Many Japanese Domestic Market reels the difference between the 1000 and 2000 size reels is mainly ONLY in the spool with the 2000 size generally having a bit wider and larger diameter spool core which results in less "coiling" of the line, a shallower wider better casting spool that does not waste a ton of line that will never be used for fishing only as a backing line on the spool as most American market reels do. The actual physical reel size of the JDM 1000 and 2000 size reels is pretty much identical. Also the actual weight of say one popular JDM Diawa spinning reel model that I checked the 1000 and 2000 size model is exactly the same at 175g or 6.17 oz. so going to a 2000 size would not change the rods balance over a 1000 size at all. I do agree the 2500 size though is too large for a true ultra light set up. When you get to looking at the more popular models of top brands like Diawa and Shimano in the JDM products they no longer even list any 500 size models for many of their reel models as the drawbacks to the 500 size reels outweigh the slightly smaller size of them greatly as compared to the 1000 and 2000 sizes. When it comes to ultralight fishing gear the Japanese market is much more advanced and specialized in the product offerings than what is offered here in the U.S.A. Most people that actually go to and try the more shallow/wider spool JDM reels for ultra light never look back and shop for the American market ultralight reels again.
Obviously you do not watch any pro fishing, tournament fishing, sponsored TH-cam channels or product showcases. Liking something and talking about it and getting paid to make a commercial are 2 different things. Not sure what you expected.
In my opinion $50 is a little expensive for an entry-level/beginner reel especially if you don’t know if ultralight is for you or not. I recommend the Lews Lite speed ultra lite it’s only 25$ and over the years I’ve acquired more expensive reels but still find myself pairing it up on my favorite rod
Tenkara cards for ultralight leaders in bass fishing… also, let me introduce you to TH-cam, a place where cattchy titles are required for a video to get views. Most items in this vid are not as well known or widely used for these applications
I'm so confused on that as negative. I stumbled across this video in an ironic way. While UL shopping today I wondered why more rods arnt in HiVis colors. It makes since while fishing for such light taps from Pearch trout etc
@@RileyReneau if you watch the rod tip for bites and you like a hiviz tip it’s not a negative, but I don’t know anyone besides live bait soakers that set their rod down and wait for the bite who would fish like that. I fish moving baits and jigs and only feel for the bite, no matter how light a decent rod will transmit the bite to you.

Spro has a fantastic box for ultra lite fishing. Not for hard baits but all the small hooks and weights.
I’ll check it out
I agree. Their medium sized terminal box works great for ultra light and if you are going ultra minimalist, you could use their small box.
