The happy, funky way Cemalim starts out contrasts so well with the desperate feeling of futility in the lyrics. This is exactly the same way I listen to Turkish rock! It is very hypnotic & evocative for sure. I get visual images too but mostly mountain ranges & other moody nocturnal landscapes. I think he plays a Gibson SG, must be a top of the line model.
Erkin Koray has gone to cannes film festival (Paris) and coincidentally John Lennon was there too, when Erkin Koray went to the hotel of John Lennon he saw the crowd waiting in front of the hotel he asked to a stuff to see the John but John wanted to see only one fan of himself then fans has writed their names on papers. Erkin has write that he is a musician from Turkey and he is combining our traditional music with the west musics. When Lennon saw the paper he chosed the Erkin Koray. When they meet Erkin Koray played his song '' Mesafeler '' which has not been published yet then Lennon propesed him to publish this song with English lyrics throughout the Europe but Erkin refused it. In my opinion he could have think that the song wasn't going to have enough popularity in europe or maybe he didn't want to get stucked in the English and make his emotions get deeply understanded in Turkish but guess we'll never know.
