So, Sator got the Algorithm by 1. leaving the car explosion site(where TP got hypothermia due to inversed transfer of heat) 2. By going to some other turnstile because the one in Paljassaare Sadam Freeport was taken by Neil's Cavalry; and inverting himself into a forward Sator. 3. And finally, travelling back to the Paljassaare Sadam Freeport to the silver car(in which TP got hypothermia) and retrieved it from there. Did I get it right? I understood this by visualizing the perspective of the Algorithm itself. Convoy> Forward Protagonist > Reverse Protagonist > Silver Car > Silver Car parked at Freeport > Sator takes from there.
Took my second viewing to get this part. My only question: once TP comes out of the turnstile and is inverted, why doesnt he recognize the car parked there as the one he just threw the algorithm into? didn't he presumably see himself when he tossed it? That part is never explained. He must have seen himself because he wouldnt steal this precious object just to chuck it into the car of a random stranger? Am i missing something?

By TP's expressions, when the silver car(Saab 9-5 Aero 2011 Glacier Silver Metallic color) flipped from upside down back into driving, you can tell that he was baffled by what he saw. I think in the rush, he didn't notice the color or model of car because there were too many things going on. 1. Car flipped back impossibly 2. Mental pressure to handover the briefcase to Sator because he has a gun on Kate's head 3. Seeing himself in the car 4. Quick thinking on what is the right thing to do 5. Throwing the briefcase perfectly towards Sator 6. Throwing the Algorithm precisely into the opened window of the car 7. Subsequently, noticing Sator leaving Kate in car and escaping into another one and now, a new mental pressure to save Kate. I guess, it seems natural to me that TP wouldn't have noticed the car's color or model after considering all the above happened to him within a short span of time. Other than this, I've no more explanation to your genuine question.

I'm not sure what "edited as is and then disintegrated" means. This is just regular movie editing. You take hundreds of hours of footage from different angles, takes, locations, and times, sometimes thousands of miles and hundreds of days apart, and turn it into one movie. That's editing.

What exactly is Sator's car about to reverse-crash into? If it's inverted, that means Sator already had it drive safely past where it's headed, and whatever obstacle ahead is already pre-dodged. In fact, how did Sator jump out of the car BEFORE starting it? Did the car magically spawn out of a crash and then line itself up perfectly for Sator to hop in mid-transit? Or is it a normal-flow car and it's just driving in reverse gear really fast?
That Audi SUV is the most confusing about the chase. It can't be forward flow time because it hits the BMW's side mirror (which was already broken) meaning it had to be inverted. But then your points mean it must be in forward time. Unfortunatly Nolan can't make a perfect movie so I guess it's just a hole...

it's hard to imagine being agents in this universe where part of your job is making use of the time inverting machine. what they didnt really explore here is the possibility of slip-ups in timing of both sides, particularly at the turnstile
I don’t think you can get it wrong. You are protected by causality. Think of it like destiny: it has to happen a certain way because it’s already happened. You don’t have to worry about paradoxes because you’re already in one and it’s fine.
Yea it doesn't work like that. You can't change anything, it's already happened. Even if you went through the turnstile to go back and change the past you would have changed nothing because in the present you would have already gone back and changed it in the first place.
The driver is there, he is just inverted, so when the driver left to the Benz, the car continues it's track because that is what it did during it's linear timeline in the past now. When you see it do the 180 (Mirror Break) it is officially (like an entropy bullet) inverted into a new timeline and now performing what it will do in the future in reverse. So the driver is just there experiencing the actions while Sator is normal in the inverted event. Why you see the same Audi during TP's car explosion, the driver in normal time was suppose to be there, but Sator noticed the piece missing so reinverted and used the Audi to perform the event again....in reverse lol. Fucken beyond confusing, almost hard to explain.

Sator then takes control of the audi , then the chase happens , then the saab is crashed , sator then takes a u-turn to come back at the saab's crash site , while taking the u-turn the audi collides with neil and tp's bmw , then he burns the saab and then goes to the freeport . In Normal Timeline you can see the audi with the inverted driver in it before the start of the heist at the freeport when Kat is entering the freeport with Sator.
Way too many plot holes in this film. I love Nolan don’t get me wrong but this is a whole new beast of fiction trying to be reality with little explanation as to how or why
sator already knew the case was empty, so hes still trying to get TP to cough it up/tell him where it is. plus, i think sator is operating under the assumption that TP isnt aware of inversion. its possible hes trying to act logically/forward-moving
One question: if the car's fuel and Sator's lighter were both inverted, why did the Protagonist suffer hypothermia? [0:40] Shouldn't he be burned, but burned into the past from normal-time perspective? (This is why I think it's impossible to make logically consistent and physically plausible "time travel" stories.)
You have to view movies like this in their own context. If you sit there and try to apply real life physics to it, of course it's not gonna make any sense. I don't understand people who can sit down to watch a time-travel movie and get pissy when it doesn't adhere 100% to reality.

Even if he did hit the gas, he would have to wedge the pedal to the floor somehow to keep the car moving for the rest of the sequence he just experienced to play out. OP is right to call it out. I think it's a plot hole. There are self driving cars, but they don't work like this.
An inverted car still needs to be driven right! Who drove the Audi with Kat before Sator got in? Did the Audi’s journey start at the shooting scene at the trafic light?
In the inverted timeline, once Sator and TP go through the turnstile, the Audi is sat at the firefight waiting to begin its journey. The car is inverted, so when with the non-inverted TP inside, he RELEASES the brake, letting it start moving (presuming the cruise control is on). The Audi then moves forward, with non-inverted Kat and TP inside. TP jumps OUT the Audi (he’s reversed now) leaving Kat alone. Then Sator climbs in with his henchmen (the first time we saw this, it was like he got out the Audi, whereas from his perspective, he is getting in) and start driving. They catch the orange box, crash the Saab, have the reverse chase, turn around back to the Saab, and blow it up.
Man the plot itself made my brain hurt but the most confusing part is about the explosions that happen inside the inverted cars' engines; How the hell are the engine blocks not frozen to crisp when they are inverted? Thousands of detonations happened within the engine in a minute yet the engine still run smoothly with no sign of freezing. And also how are the bullet casings at the earlier part of the movie not frozen solid? There should be at least condensation outside the casings.

Everything happens in reverse order in the inversion timeline. For example,if you're marching towards an army, an inversion group of army would already attacked the army and going backwards to where it started.
If the car has the same time direction as you, you drive normally. if you and the car are flipped, you'd have to do things like drive reversed, and flip some other things.
Driving an inverse car would be super weird. You would drive in forward gear but you would need to look out the back. Pushing the brake down a lot and then releasing it is how you start the car moving backwards. Then you move to the accelerator to maintain speed. Letting off the accelerator will quickly slow it to a stop. If the car is travelling at speed, it's impossible to use the brake, because that would ruin causality (from the car's perspective, the brake would have been pushed first, then let go, leaving its speed at 0, rather than travelling).
@@yds6268 R/woosh OP is talking about how the car is able to run at all, with the physics of reverse time. A car has an air intake, but in reverse the intake becomes an exhaust. Also with the way temperature works, the engine pistons would generate heat at the exact wrong parts of the cycle. I'd actually like to see a video running a simulation of how that would work...
Algorithm is travelling forwards it time. I suppose it is just bouncy and getting thrown in fast makes it spin around a lot. Or normal objects bounce funny off inverted cars.
The sequence happened quickly, and possibly removing the car is part of Ives' cleanup. Possibly cars just drove around the turned over car and the weird people walking backwards and placing a burned (frozen?) car on the highway.

@@binarybug700 Pressing a brake pedal is palindromic. It's not pressed at the start, then it's pressed, then it's not pressed again. So no matter which direction of time you look at it, the protagonist presses the brake. And the Audi starts moving forwards from its inverted point of view.

I still have trouble fully undestanding less so what is happening and more so the logic/plan of each person involved. Inverted sator and inverted Protagonist especially. And are the cars inverted? How do they go in reverse so damn fast.
The silver saab and the black audi are inverted. As for the motivations, Sator is playing the long game. From his perspective he already knows the orange case is empty by the time he has it in his hands. The whole hostage negotiation for it is ultimately meaningless, but it allows Sator to observe where the Algorithm actually ended up, so he can simply go pick it up later. Being able to circle back in the same time frame allows Sator a kind of clairvoyance, but he still needs to play his role to make sure the events play out as they should.
That is a big plot hole, yes. It starts its journey by getting the brake released. Someone suggested an object should have been placed on the accelerator when Sator left, which protag could knock off to stop the car.

It's journey is: get to accident some way --> stopped --> Protag and Kat dragged out --> Protag presses brake --> car starts driving --> Protag out, Sator and guys in --> drives like normal. That said, I forgot cruise control exists :). It would do the job. It would have to be set in a way where it started up/changed speeds when the brake was pressed, however.
Inverted Sator would have seen the handoff, than went through the motions with the case. Sator's sequence is: listen to info on car chase, possibly including that the case was empty (one of his goons, possibly) --> interrogation scene + invert --> check car, realize algorithm isn't there --> go to handoff, see algorithm thrown into interted protag car, exchange empty case --> tell his goons that the algorithm is in the protagonist's car --> do whatever he does after.
That's certainly possible, although I think it would actually be catastrophic to whomever picks up the normal object. Kind of like how being shot by an inverted bullet when you aren't inverted is so much more devastating than being shot by a normal bullet.
There are alot of oversights in this chase scene. 1) At the beginning of the chase scene when they followed the trucks, there are no traffic on Pärnu mnt and traffic lights blinked yellow. 2) There is a fence surrounding the gas station. 3) there are more oversights.
He does remember that he threw the algorithm to himself, that’s why when he first gets in the car after inverting, he checks the backseat of the car for the cube.
Now coming to your car flipped over statement, he knows that as well. It was just that so much was happening during that scene, there was so much pressure. He knew he was gonna get flipped over but there’s absolutely nothing he can do to avoid it because of one simple rule “what’s happened’s happened”

it's hard to imagine being agents in this universe where part of your job is making use of the time inverting machine. what they didnt really explore here is the possibility of slip-ups in timing of both sides, particularly at the turnstile
I don’t think you can get it wrong. You are protected by causality. Think of it like destiny: it has to happen a certain way because it’s already happened. You don’t have to worry about paradoxes because you’re already in one and it’s fine.
Yea it doesn't work like that. You can't change anything, it's already happened. Even if you went through the turnstile to go back and change the past you would have changed nothing because in the present you would have already gone back and changed it in the first place.

The driver is there, he is just inverted, so when the driver left to the Benz, the car continues it's track because that is what it did during it's linear timeline in the past now. When you see it do the 180 (Mirror Break) it is officially (like an entropy bullet) inverted into a new timeline and now performing what it will do in the future in reverse. So the driver is just there experiencing the actions while Sator is normal in the inverted event. Why you see the same Audi during TP's car explosion, the driver in normal time was suppose to be there, but Sator noticed the piece missing so reinverted and used the Audi to perform the event again....in reverse lol. Fucken beyond confusing, almost hard to explain.

The car is inverted, so the non-inverted TP inside the audi releases the brake, the audi starts moving (presuming the cruise control is on). The Audi then moves forward, with non-inverted Kat and TP inside. TP jumps out the Audi leaving Kat alone. Sator then takes control of the audi , then the chase happens , then the saab is crashed , sator then takes a u-turn to come back at the saab's crash site , while taking the u-turn the audi collides with neil and tp's bmw , then he burns the saab and then goes to the freeport . In Normal Timeline you can see the audi with the inverted driver in it before the start of the heist at the freeport when Kat is entering the freeport with Sator.
This movie is just brilliant, it's almost an IQ test

One question: if the car's fuel and Sator's lighter were both inverted, why did the Protagonist suffer hypothermia? [0:40] Shouldn't he be burned, but burned into the past from normal-time perspective?

You have to view movies like this in their own context. If you sit there and try to apply real life physics to it, of course it's not gonna make any sense. I don't understand people who can sit down to watch a time-travel movie and get pissy when it doesn't adhere 100% to reality.

they don't drive in reverse. They drive forward. But since their time flow is opposite to ours, for us it looks like they drive backwards.

An inverted car still needs to be driven right! Who drove the Audi with Kat before Sator got in? Did the Audi’s journey start at the shooting scene at the trafic light?

The car is inverted, so when with the non-inverted TP inside, he RELEASES the brake, letting it start moving (presuming the cruise control is on). The Audi then moves forward, with non-inverted Kat and TP inside. TP jumps OUT the Audi (he’s reversed now) leaving Kat alone. Then Sator climbs in with his henchmen (the first time we saw this, it was like he got out the Audi, whereas from his perspective, he is getting in) and start driving. They catch the orange box, crash the Saab, have the reverse chase, turn around back to the Saab, and blow it up.

Man the plot itself made my brain hurt but the most confusing part is about the explosions that happen inside the inverted cars' engines;
How the hell are the engine blocks not frozen to crisp when they are inverted? Thousands of detonations happened within the engine in a minute yet the engine still run smoothly with no sign of freezing.
And also how are the bullet casings at the earlier part of the movie not frozen solid? There should be at least condensation outside the casings.

Do you have to drive in reverse in the inverted time?
Everything happens in reverse order in the inversion timeline. For example,if you're marching towards an army, an inversion group of army would already attacked the army and going backwards to where it started.
If the car has the same time direction as you, you drive normally. if you and the car are flipped, you'd have to do things like drive reversed, and flip some other things.
Driving an inverse car would be super weird. You would drive in forward gear but you would need to look out the back. Pushing the brake down a lot and then releasing it is how you start the car moving backwards. Then you move to the accelerator to maintain speed. Letting off the accelerator will quickly slow it to a stop. If the car is travelling at speed, it's impossible to use the brake, because that would ruin causality (from the car's perspective, the brake would have been pushed first, then let go, leaving its speed at 0, rather than travelling).
This is a YTP if I ever saw one. Yet it is not😂

OP is talking about how the car is able to run at all, with the physics of reverse time. A car has an air intake, but in reverse the intake becomes an exhaust.
Also with the way temperature works, the engine pistons would generate heat at the exact wrong parts of the cycle.

Algorithm is travelling forwards it time. I suppose it is just bouncy and getting thrown in fast makes it spin around a lot. Or normal objects bounce funny off inverted cars.
I wonder why the highway was not blocked up in spite of the over-turned (and then burned) Mercedes.
The sequence happened quickly, and possibly removing the car is part of Ives' cleanup. Possibly cars just drove around the turned over car and the weird people walking backwards and placing a burned (frozen?) car on the highway.
Nolan´s mind is from other reality that we can´t understand at all! But is awesome!

I still have trouble fully undestanding less so what is happening and more so the logic/plan of each person involved. Inverted sator and inverted Protagonist especially.
And are the cars inverted? How do they go in reverse so damn fast.

As for the motivations, Sator is playing the long game. From his perspective he already knows the orange case is empty by the time he has it in his hands. The whole hostage negotiation for it is ultimately meaningless, but it allows Sator to observe where the Algorithm actually ended up, so he can simply go pick it up later. Being able to circle back in the same time frame allows Sator a kind of clairvoyance, but he still needs to play his role to make sure the events play out as they should.

That is a big plot hole, yes. It starts its journey by getting the brake released. Someone suggested an object should have been placed on the accelerator when Sator left, which protag could knock off to stop the car.

@@LexiFPS From the car's view, it is driving forward. It's journey is: get to accident some way --> stopped --> Protag and Kat dragged out --> Protag presses brake --> car starts driving --> Protag out, Sator and guys in --> drives like normal.
That said, I forgot cruise control exists :). It would do the job. It would have to be set in a way where it started up/changed speeds when the brake was pressed, however.

Inverted Sator would have seen the handoff, than went through the motions with the case. Sator's sequence is: listen to info on car chase, possibly including that the case was empty (one of his goons, possibly) --> interrogation scene + invert --> check car, realize algorithm isn't there --> go to handoff, see algorithm thrown into interted protag car, exchange empty case --> tell his goons that the algorithm is in the protagonist's car --> do whatever he does after.

That's certainly possible, although I think it would actually be catastrophic to whomever picks up the normal object. Kind of like how being shot by an inverted bullet when you aren't inverted is so much more devastating than being shot by a normal bullet.
No. To move back in time, the object needs to be inverted with a turnstile.

There are alot of oversights in this chase scene.
1) At the beginning of the chase scene when they followed the trucks, there are no traffic on Pärnu mnt and traffic lights blinked yellow.
2) There is a fence surrounding the gas station.
3) there are more oversights.

He does remember that he threw the algorithm to himself, that’s why when he first gets in the car after inverting, he checks the backseat of the car for the cube.
Now coming to your car flipped over statement, he knows that as well. It was just that so much was happening during that scene, there was so much pressure. He knew he was gonna get flipped over but there’s absolutely nothing he can do to avoid it because of one simple rule “what’s happened’s happened”
