I built one of these last christmas after it's starring role in Gundam Evolution. The treads pop apart all the time unless I leave them alone, which is probably my biggest gripe with the kit overall.
Yeah... these treads can be something else! They look so good, then you look at them the wrong way and there goes 10 minutes as you try to snap them back together lol
I spent hours on painting the gray parts on mine. It's kind of nice that a lot of the details correspond with standard tank mechanisms, so if you have experience with tank models, you'll love detailing it. The caterpillar treads are, indeed, annoying - even more so when you get around to painting them. It's also nice that the kit includes standing figures of Bright, Ryu, Mirai, and Hayato. The red strips across the cannon barrels are (iirc) in reference to an episode where the White Base entered a neutral colony. They had to place a seal on the barrels as a guarantee they won't engage in combat.
Happy new year to you, Red. You are one of the only Gunpla review channels that I actively watch nowadays. Always a good day to see an MG vid from you.
@@redheadphones6 the old Master grade does not do that design Justice but the gpo2 solomon physalis is an impressive model something bandai would never have made in the next 20 years
OMG.. the moment your video appeared on my feed I was, "sh*t, finally a new video" your gunpla review videos are top notch man, I'm not lying. I hope you could cover more Ver Ka kits in the future. In the meantime, I'm gonna binge this one. 👊
Good to see you back, this is still my favourite gunpla channel. Did you see the announcement video for Gundam Assemble? Not sure if tabletop games are in your sphere of interest but im excited to see where they go with it.
Yay another video! I’m not much of a Guntank person but I always enjoy watching your videos. It’s really impressive to see you gain such a loyal following. And happy new year, and I hope you had a happy winter holiday whatever you celebrate!
Thanks! Yeah, it's really cool how many people stick around considering how long the gaps are between videos. It's honestly what keeps me coming back! Thanks, and Happy New Year!
I have this kit and it's one of the most fun builds I've ever done, but the treads are a double edged sword for me. A family member came over during new year's and popped off both of them, and putting them together again is *such* a chore. I've also already used the 4 extra pieces so... 😔It's purely a display piece now, but it's a great one at that.
hell yeah dude, happy to see another video from you, hope to see more like this, have to say though i always knew this kit was pretty good but i never knew it was as cool as it actually is
Right? This is one of those kits that I kind of just wrote off with "I'll get it eventually" but ended up having a great time with it. Really fun kit. Hope Bandai reprints it soon.
I could be remembering wrong, but aren't those cannon strips those seals from the episode when the White Base is stationed at Riah and Cameron Bloom has them oversee putting seals on all of their mobile suits and gun turrets so they can tell if they've been fired or not? If so then wow, that's a really niche but really great inclusion to have. (Shame you don't get any for the hand boppers though, lol)
Still a shame we didn't get a guncannon 2.0 during this era, also fun fact they were thinking about making the guncannon kit into the first rc model Gundam but I guess they decided not to
Yeah, it'd be cool to see that get updated with the frame of the Gundam ver 2.0 or something. Still, I can't help but like that original Guncannon. It looks great great next to the other Operation V mobile suits.
Yeah, but that's the thing about Gunpla. While a new version comes out, Bandai still tends to reprint the old stuff. It's so cool having multiple options for the same suit.
I agree! However I hope they won’t abandon the MG line fully and somehow try to make more 2.0s or 2.0 inspired kits. Speaking on that matter, they should’ve at least expanded on the MG ORIGIN line by adding the origin versions of the guncannon and many more. Kind of a bummer there is only one kit for the MG ORIGIN line (the granddaddy) .
Aye, congrats! That's a great deal. These were so rare for years, then one random day it popped up at my local hobby shop. So stoked to finally add it to the shelf.
Just built one of these last year too. One of the cannons broke in a move so I replaced them both with some painted brass and aluminum tubes I cut to size. Love this kit!
Yeah, as much as I enjoy the original MG Guncannon, a 2.0 using a more modern frame would be amazing. The current version still looks great on a shelf, but after seeing what the HG Revive version can pull off, I can't help but wonder what an MG ver 2.0 could be.
@@redheadphones6 IIRC there is indeed a canonical configuration of the Gundam and Guntank where the Gundam's upper half is is placed on the Guntank treads and the legs are stored on the back of the hull. It's supposed to be for long distance travel, to reduce wear on the more complicated legs.
lol Yeah. I really enjoyed these treads until I had to pose them 10+ times for this video. Such a unique idea though. I bet they're great for weathering/painting.
Same, it's why it took me so long to get this one. Always out of print. Maybe try a local hobby shop if you have one. Things don't sell out as fast in person.
Yeah. Totally just a cop out on Bandai's part, but it does add something. If anything, it's an extra LED unit to use with other kits. Pretty solid addition.
Definitely looks silly but cool. Out of curiosity, seeing as the Guntank uses the same core block system as the Rx-78-2 2.0 and the Guncannon, would it be possible to swap their upper bodies?
It's an original song a buddy of mine wrote. There's no official release, and despite me having the original files, it'd be up to him if he wants to finalize/release it. Dude's next level though, so I doubt he has the time to make a dedicated release for it. Maybe if these reviews really take off I could justify asking for a full version.
I legit thought about that. Went really back and forth on it, as it's technically articulation from the fingers, but it's also an interesting aspect of the build, and it eventually get's too complicated. As cool as they are, I'm not sure they really would've upped my thoughts on the gimmicks much anyway. That's the main issue with having a strict structure. Part of me wants to try breaking away from the structure for instances like that.

Wow this Guntank was a lot cooler than I was expecting. Have to try to pick one up to model underneath my MG Gouf Custom 😅

I wondered about this kit for a while. Was debating getting the classic Guntank or the HG Origin version, so nice to know it's solid.

Replacing the cannons with metal tubes sounds so cool. Do you have pics? That sounds like a great upgrade!

thanks for pointing out the panel lines being shallow. rescribing them if i end up getting this kit.
Thanks! I sometimes wonder how many people care, but for more professional builders, it really is something worth mentioning.
There are bootleg MG Guntanks out there that includes a pair of rubber treads and also metal alloy cannon barrels. so tempting
Don't see a lot of love for the tank. Not for me, but they did a great job with this one!
Love the videos man! Keep the good work!!!!!!
Thanks! Going to try to upload more frequently!
Peak of gunpla. Zaku 2 2.0, Rx78 2.0, and this.

Since this uses the same core fighter as the RX-78 2.0, could you slap the top half of the Gundam onto the bottom section of the Guntank?
Just tested, and the 2.0 works. Weird, never really thought about it. Looks surreal lol. Great catch!

A day in the life of tank modelers.
lol, I thought about that. These tank treads are so unique, but I have a buddy that focuses on tanks, and to him it was just Tuesday.
@@redheadphones6 Even worse. Most of the tank models the tracks don't just clip together. A lot of them you have to wire together.
