President Trump should consider reestablishing U.S. military bases in Panama, similar to those from the past-Fort Clayton, Howard Air Force Base, Rodman Naval Base, Fort Davis, and others. The mission of these bases would be:
    1. To prevent the passage of immigrants heading to the U.S.
    2. To counteract Chinese influence and control of the Panama Canal.
The Panamanian government could continue administering the Canal, while the U.S. focuses on security and support. This would be a win-win for everyone! President Trump could propose a referendum to the Panamanian people on this issue-I bet they’d be interested!

The smart answer is in the background make being Canadian even more insufferable, then purchase them as a territory like we did most of the time, and finally over the course of a generation cut the land up into states. Our entire history is accepting new states together to balance our various factions. I don't like the whole "unify our nations economy" thing because it requires we completely coordinate our immigration, taxes, measurements, etc. At that point, why not become either a territory, or at the max a protectorate, which ultimately will just lead to statehood either way.

Bro, if Canada were to become a US state, most likely it would be broken up into at least 4 separate states to perhaps as much as 10 separate states thereby increasing the number of US states from 50 to between 54 to 60 states. I don't see a situation where if Canada somehow agrees to become a state, would then be integrated into US statehood as just one big state. In such a scenario, Canada will be broken up and then integrated into the USA. In fact, I could see the significant portion of the Northwest region of Canada to be simply integrated as part of Alaska since the land is contiguous, thereby possibly doubling the land-mass (and increasing the population) of the state of Alaska.

Finally add a new 15th and 16th state by making Vancouver Island and the adjacent Southwest of current British Columbia as the new 15th state and the remainder of what is now Northern and Eastern British Columbia as a 16th new state.

Most of the liberals in Canada live in Southern Ontario, around Toronto in the 905 area down by the Great Lakes. Don't think the rest of the country thinks the same way. The only piece of real estate that we are after is Greenland.
When it comes to Panama, it has to do with National Security. The Chinese are there, and on top of that, many South American countries are deepening their relationships with China. We do not like that!
As for Canada, I'm honestly surprised that the Canadians apparently are starting to consider or at least ponder on the issue of unification with the US.
In my opinion, we could intergrate our border and financial policy. This would mean that the Canadians would not have a border with us( which then the Canadians would need to have the same emigration policy as USA)
On the other hand, the Canadians would benefit tremendously.
They would get cheaper agricultural goods, which they heavily rely on us.
Their economy would be more resilient, and they would be able to exploit their resources more efficiently.
Now, there are others who would want for the USA to straight up buy the three northern territories. Hence, a land bridge would be created between Alaska and mainland US, and we would have total control of the Artic ocean( assuming we would also purchase Greenland)

I think it would make more sense to just make the entire country part of the U.S. Panama is already one of the richest and most developed countries of Latin America that also has an economy that’s very intertwined into the American economy. I don’t think it would have huge short term consequences but in the long run gives us the canal and gives Panama better access to the worlds largest economy.

One of ( if not the primary reason) Canadians oppose being part of the US is the Health Care System: News flash: Canada is losing doctors, nurses and other health care professionals to the US. Why? More $ and lower taxes. These reasons are also a primary factor in why Canada has not won a Stanley Cup in over 30 years and why Minnesota has more NHL draftees then Quebec and Saskatchewan.

Initially there is no guarantee they vote for the dems, they could be entirely isolated and continue to vote for their own Canadian parties.
As they become more integrated they would go to the standard party divide, especially with the immediate improvements to their economic situation.
Also the liberal population is very isolated to a couple big cities that would swing dem, but the rest of country would probably go republican, especially after having the Liberals in charge for so long. Like it would be entirely possible for Ontario to go red, even with a city like Toronto.

Very few Canadians want to be part of the U.S., but there is significant interest in more economic unity, U.S., Canada, U.K., Europe in a Free Trade alliance; all with similar costs of doing business; Mexico has low costs of production due to labour being cheap and continues to draw production to Mexico; a northern alliance would make more sense. with each country agreeing to buy as much as they sell to each partner nation. No-one wants the U.S. annexing territories; that would only drive us to forge new alliances without the U.S. being invited.

Why does everyone think that we would all be democrats?? Only the city centers are liberal. If we became states the seat counts the major city hold would be eliminated. Then Canada is VERY conservative and quite supportive of Trump and the idea of a protected North America (we are totally a threat right now with the immigration issues we have and that's a problem America would solve).
