  • A vast underground network of traffickers has made a living convincing poor mothers in Bulgaria to sell their infants to rich Greek couples. From the courts, to the slums, to the NGOs fighting to put an end to the practice, VICE Greece took a deep dive into how the trafficking ring functions-and the toll it takes on both the mothers and their children.

      S P The Super Bowl is the top human/slave/sex trafficking event every year in America. It happens every single year. The FBI has to set up a special field office since it’s well known that white supremacists have infiltrated city, county, and state law enforcement agencies around the country. Which is why many horrible crimes get swept under or turned a blind eye to. The feds are needed to help stop these atrocities as most normal citizens are completely oblivious to this epidemic.

    This used to happen a lot in Guatemala (where my mom is from) where woman would sell their babies or babies would be kidnapped from the hospital but most of them ended up in the untied states with american families. The kidnapping got so bad that they closed off international adoptions because it was very hard to know which children where given willingly and which ones where kidnapped.

    I'm a Bulgarian who lives in Bulgaria. We really do have an issue with the Roma (Gypsy) minority in the country. First and foremost, they outright refuse to integrate in our society. Most of them prefer to live in the extreme conditions described in the documentary cause it's just easier for them. There are some exceptions, of course, but generally they prefer to get by on welfare programs and supplement their income by stealing, begging.... selling children, etc. Actually most of them do have access to water and electricity and do not pay any utility bills. If a Bulgarian is late with their electricity bill they get cut off instantaneously while Roma people get a pass cause the authorities are basically afraid to get into the ghettos without a dozen policemen accompanying them. The other EU countries are constantly pressuring us to integrate them but when they go to Western Europe (since they are EU citizens as well), they get sent back ASAP cause Western Europe can't handle them either.

    • @GhostlyBG
      @GhostlyBG 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      If you are referring to the most recent protest in Asenovgrad, from last week, the issue there was that a bunch of gypsies had a confrontation with the town's junior rowing team and their coaches, and then they went
      back to their neighborhood, gathered a bigger force and then proceeded to attack the kids and their parents with sticks, stones and whatever else they could find. They broke the arms of a couple of kinds and a lot
      of people suffered minor injuries. So, of course, a huge community uproar followed against the ghetto and the police had to protect the people in it for a few days. So, yeah, problems do occur. It's not extremely bad but still it is unfortunate that such things happen at all. We have a lot of other minorities in the country, for instance the Turkish minority is not very small, but we have not had such issue with them as they could be considered integrated in the society.

      This is an absurd claim from a historical materialist perspective. It is even more absurd from an existentialist one. With the former, your entire worldly experience is determined by conditions that you yourself had no say in and can only attempt to understand.
      In the latter, you are subjected to a throwness into a context which you are immediately forced to contend with, regardless of moral assumptions and presuppositions.
      Only non-thinking beings make absolutely fucking stupid statements like "just don't be poor" over youtube.

      It is always the womans burden. Men are praised for having as many children possible with many many women. I wish males would be real men and take care of their responsibilities. Men need forced vasectomies after they keep making babies and not feeding them. This will never change in our lifetime. Its a global messed up problem. Anybody can breed, but that doesn't make you a parent. Anyone can be a dad, but a real man is a father.

    • @moonbeam4016
      @moonbeam4016 7 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      You're so right. In many places, women don't have a say if they'll have more children or not. Some religions and cultures forbid women from being on birth control which allows men to impregnate them as much as they want. In many places in the world, women and wives are still regarded as property. Where are all these men that are creating these children? Why haven't any of them been highlighted and why is there no responsibility placed on them? People act like women make themselves pregnant.

    J & J A: What can they do to change their circumstances? How about USE birth control. I think we all need to think before bringing children into this world. I wanted children more than anything else, in my 20s I had a son born prematurely and died in my arms, this nearly killed me. It was years before I had the nerves to try again but I found myself in a very bad situation and luckily Planned Parenthood helped me with birth control, I am very thankful. I didn't want to bring a child into this world with an abusive alcoholic for a father. Unfortunately injuries I sustained led to major surgery & I never had children, but it would have been selfish to make any other decision. If you can't afford to take care of a child you shouldn't have them. And if you have children & find yourself in a bad situation Stop having kids & take care of the ones you have, ask for help if needed, put those children first. If you live in a 3rd world country don't sell your children, instead don't have them. I would support a charity that helps women, who cannot afford it, obtain the birth control of their choice. Come on big pharma, do something right for a change, let's start with the United States and then start sharing birth control with all the women of the world. "I am woman hear me Roar!"

    The problem is a mix between poverty, lack of education and well humanity. All of this can be solved through better social policies of the country. I am Bulgarian, I am familiar with the empathy of the people and the government. A change is only possible through cooperation between those who want to help and the authorities. Most of those women, who sell their kids obviously are introduce to the world to give birth, this is the horrible truth. They are as guilty as much as the traffickers, and subsequently the government and the people whose choice is simply to stay passive. I am not in Bulgaria at the moment since my education is my priority, I will go back one day and I hope a lot young Bulgarians think the same as me, that we are the change, we are the tool for a better world in order for this stories to be left in the past and never happen again.

    It is absolutely inapropriate that we don't see the women described as gypsies or roma (which they are). No actual ethnic bulgarian woman has sold a child or given it to adoption. That's something exclusively practiced by the gypsies (which are clearly visible in the video - dark skin etc.). Saying "bulgarian women" or "women from Bulgaria" creates the wrong impression of ethnic bulgarians doing this - which has never happened. Or at least there are no records of it having happened. While there are many records of roma doing it.

    • @lenaannis8787

      I am Greek and i can tell you that yes the gypsie children are sold to God knows whom. But... i have friends that traveled to Bulgaria and Roumania and legally adopted children fm orphanages so yes there are a lot of children in these two countries abonded by their mothers...

    • @Nino_Z
      @Nino_Z 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Which modern country does not have orphanages where there are children available for adoption? How is that proof that "there are a lot of children in these two countries abandoned by their mothers"? A lot compared to what and based on what evidence? As a greek person, do you have statistics which compare to statistics from other countries, so you can actually see that other countries (any other countries) have more or less children for adoption? The only reason why the greek go to these countries to adopt is because adoption is made easier there. Your country (as indicated in this video) has a bad burocratic procedure which is ineffective and people go for children elsewhere. You have to learn to look for more than just anecdotal evidence, because that is no evidence at all. It's hearsay.

    • @lenaannis8787
      @lenaannis8787 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason the burocracy is difficult here is because there are not many children for adoption. And i dont need statistics for that. As i said my friends went to both countries and informed me that the orphanages,especially in Roumania are packed with children unwanted...due to poverty ... And pls i have been to both countries They are not modern... They are very very poor countries... And for this i have proof for you. They enter illigaly to Greece ( a country with big ecomonical problems) to get away..Read your facts abt the salaries in those countries

    • @Nino_Z
      @Nino_Z 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      "and I don't need statistics" - this is one of the reasons why you speak nonsense. You don't actually inform yourself but just say what you want to believe. I have been to the Balkans to Greece and to most of the EU countries. You need to inform yourself a bit. Let me give you some hard facts about economics based on debt per gdp:
      Greece currently 179%
      Bulgaria currently 27%
      Romania currently 37,6%
      Your country is poor. And your burocracy has nothing to do with how many children there are - children are not products, the complexity of adopting is not based on supply and demand. Stop speaking without thinking. Sit down and simply inform yourself. The information is available. Don't just tell me what your friends told you etc. Nonsense cannot win against facts in a debate. You are simply sitting here, trying to slander other countries and you should be ashamed of yourself. As a matter of fact, from what I have read Bulgaria is one of the countries who contributed to the financial Aid send to Greece last time. They are so poor as you say, that they have to send you money. Sure sounds logical.

    • @lenaannis8787
      @lenaannis8787 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You want to take this further.... Tell me why all the prostitutes in the streets here in Greece come fm either Roumania or Bulgaria or Ukraine ? that have entered illigaly by their local Mafia? and why all the men fm these countries collect fm the our garbage every night? You keep talking abt statistics and i talk abt real life... Get your "real life facts" in order I dont need to inform my self... I live in Athens i see it right in front of me... I am trying to slander other countries? I have spoken to Bulgarians The high salary is 50E monthly.... And since you are so high on statistics ck out the statistics on prostitution in these countries.. Keep living in your statistics bubble...

    "traffiking children from Bulgarian slums to rich Greek couples" - the children who do make it to the rich Greek couples are not complaining about being raised in wealth versus poverty. The solution to the problem: poor folks need to stop having so many babies they can't feel. Concentrate on one or two child. I mean, just because a woman is born with 2 million eggs doesn't mean she should birth 2 million kids.
