  • Most people know Dubai for its massive skyscrapers and luxurious hotels, but few know that the city was built by modern-day slaves.
    --
For months, the BBC's Ben Anderson hung out around the glittering, insane towers springing up in Dubai trying to infiltrate the community of expatriate workers who are putting them up. What he found when he finally got in was that the jewel of the Arab world is almost entirely built upon imported slave labor.

You can also stop buying anything made in China, because the poor Chinese workers are practically enslaved. If you don't support this then you should buy things you know we're made by people who were payed well.

I remember when i was 7 and flew overseas with my dad and brother to visit my grandparents house in the middle east, they had a house maid. Her name was kareema (i still remember). Im not too sure where she was from but she was asain. She was very quite and very polite. But i would often feel sorry for her because she was always working. See the thing is, my grandmother (she passed away 2016) was rlly sick at that time and needed help. My gandfather (who passed away 2015) was very demanding and often times gets angry pretty easy. In their house there also lived my uncle, his wife and his two young and troublesome kids.
I still remember this one time where the youngest kept throwing his bear out the window and his parents would always tell kareema to go get it- mind u they lived in an apartment complex around the 10th floor. I would always go with her.
She would sleep in a matress in the laundry, eat alone in the kitchen and wake up rlly early and start cleaning.
Me being myself, i made it a thing where i too would wake up early and start helping her clean (i was 7 but my mum always had my brothers and i help around the house so i was pretty useful), i would help prepare breakfast with her (we made pancakes this one time and it was so fun), and whilst all my other family ate on the table in the open space, i would eat with her in the enclosed kitchen. She spoke broken english and i spoke broken arabic but we managed. And before we knew it, we became friends ( with a 13 yr difference, but still nonetheless friends). I remember always following her around and talking to her because i felt like she could use a dose of normal converstation. I remember also having asked my grandparents if kareema could take me to the store just so that she could get out the house and not have to worry about helping. I had a huge amount of respect for her. And she could see that, which is why she rlly liked having me around. She felt like an older sister to me.
Anyway, my grandparents treated her about right (though her having slept in the laundry because there was no space still gets to me), so its safe to say she was fine. I remember when it was time to go (back to australia cause thats where i was born and raised), my dad left her a parting gift- $100- and the way her eyes began to line over with water and how she thanked him over 10 times, makes me wish that if i made money, giving it to her would be so worth it. I remember her always calling me a sweet girl and giving me hugs and holding my hand whenever we would walk from one room to another. She was so sweet and so kind. If anything, she was the highlight of my trip.
So me watching this literally hurts my heart because these people are PEOPLE. You have NO right whatsoever to think just because they work for u, u have complete power over them. Others who treat people like animals, are animals themselves (and even then, animals should never be treated wrong either).
Its been 10 yrs, so im 17, and ive never seen her since. I hope shes doing fine and found another job worthy of a beautiful soul like hers.
    Be kind.
    Be humble.
    And stay educated!
    Knowledge is power.
    Bless yall.

I was born and raised in the UAE, this is the side that no one sees, The workers live on 6 rottis and 2 cups of tea per day. The rate of suicide is soo high in these labor camps and its conditions are appalling, the one depicted here is still okay. There are some camps that have huge tents with 300-500 labourers living, without airconditioners, plumbing, clean running water and proper electricity. The average salary is about 200-400$ per month. They are literally treated like slaves, not allowed to leave the sites on working days, not allowed to mix with normal people in public places and not even given proper medical insurance. I once witnessed a scene at a public hospital where a worker had fallen 2 stories from a building and was laid out on a stretcher away from all the other people at the hospital and was kept waiting for 4 hours before he was attended due to lack of medical insurance. It was the people who were around that actually talked to the worker to get information and offered to pay his bill as the company had somewhat abandoned him there. There is no human rights in this country. It's all a sham. The human rights staff come, get taken around the country to all the posh and top notch places and are ushered back quickly with a lot of restrictions on filming or gathering information from the less fortunate.

🏠 Stupid people System is the problem 🏡 Our Life should be around these Great Qualities........
1, Show all living creatures; all the love and kindness as much as you can.
2, Only try to be honest with yourself. If you try to be honest with others, you will get into big trouble soon or later.
3, Aim only one target at a time; otherwise you are chasing two rabbits and you will miss both. So, the reason behind it. Have one powerful reason and never ever give up the one you want the most.
4, Don't try to be good person only but be the powerful person. We will grow to be the one or we will die. There is no other choice.
5, Always learn and look for to improve something your life.
6, You are not alone. Love and faith the high power reduces unnecessary stress in life. But never completely rely on it.
7, Success and happiness are the byproducts of our usefulness. So, always increase the possibility of success.
8, Life is not going to be easy. Because of our unnecessary things. Eliminate all the unnecessary things as much as you can by organising yourself well with the environments.
9, Never believe anything without the proper evidences.
10, Always try to give more than you take.
Because it is dignity/ character of the divinity within you.
🌎 As long as people continue to see themselves as separate from everything else, they lend themselves to being completely enslaved. Success depends on how well we relate to everything around us. Joy comes from that bliss of connectedness. I believe that unarmed truth and love will have the final word in reality. To love; you should have good heart. I am a good person until I see a person better than my standard of goodness. Being good is the progress towards a worthy cause. Love is God. Whoever lives in love, lives forever. How selfish it is to try to keep something forever? Love is all about nourishing, nurturing, sharing and expanding the love within you for all. The principle to which we adhere to is that we have kindness of love at heart for the whole of mankind. As long as there is the unnecessary differences within us; we can not live peacefully so we have to eliminate all the unnecessary differences among us so we can love all. People abilities may vary but not there true love. If we love a person/ God for a reason then we love the reason but not the person. No reason is the reason to love the person because true love never fails. So do not compare or measure the true love as first or the last but love all truly. If you love people truly then you can understand people. If you don't love then you don't understand people at all.

Truth About Health/Drugs Industry Because Of It Your Life At High Risk The drug industry is a 1/2 trillion dollars a year worldwide conglomerate. Almost 300 billions dollars just in North America. That is really big business. What would happen if everyone were well? There is no money in health. You see, good health makes a lot of sense but it doesn't make a lot of dollars. Because everything they do is toxic. Every drug they use, prescription drugs, all drugs are liver toxic, bar none. If you've had amalgam fillings put in your mouth by dentists. It is highly toxic. There's cancer because most of the chemos are themselves carcinogens. To view the tumor as the cancer and we know the tumor is not the cancer. The cancer industry is 200 billions dollars a year. The more work they get, the more profit there is. You have to dismantle; If the truth ever came out about what we would need to do. 30% of people of females in America are at risk of getting, will get cancer of the breast. The ones that are already dead have been grossly mistreated by the medical profession and by the government that supposedly is supposed to encourage free research and development of all possibilities. Why would medical doctors who studied medicine and practice medicine and are heavily funded by pharmaceutical companies why would they go and look into vitamins? That they never had the answer orthomolecular. And as more and more of our population start taking their health into their own hands, there's going to be even more and more of changes. It can't go on the way it is. The system is failing apart. We must make nutrition the primary prevention strategy for the population. You are what you eat. You are everything that you have ever done to yourself. The choices you make directly affect the outcome of your life. - (Food Matters Documentary in Netflix)
😊 Well, I truly love God. I am not religious but very spiritual person. So, I believe 1) Religion is the beliefs in someone experiences But spirituality is having my own experiences. The mainstream religions people promote religious ideology by giving guidelines and guide but In my spiritual life; I do not want anyone or anything between God and me to restrict my freedom to worship God. 2) We do not need any authorities to do good work. The god work is the good work always. In contrast; organised mainstream religions are claiming that they have the authorities to do God works as leaders so on. 3) God is not capable of doing wrong thing, change the past for us and create anything out of nothing for us. Nothing means not anything. So, even God is limited. The mainstream religious people believe that God is unlimited. 4) God wants us to take responsibilities for our righteousness life but not for all the consequences of our actions because they are continued to exist among us. So, How can god punish us for all our consequences? The mainstream religious people believe we are full of sins because of all our actions. 5) Freewill is an illusion. People always choose the perceived path of greatest pleasure. So, we do not have choices all the time. In contrast teachings of the mainstream religions are promoting people to do god's will always because we all have choices of freewill always. 6) We can not separate everything into groups. So, everything for good and evil and there's no success and failure for everything. If everything is real then real things can not be threatened. Once you come to understand that God/The Holy Spirit is in each of us, You will no longer need a Book to tell you how to live. Then why we need religious scriptures? The Virtue is the expression of the basic goodness in our actions. The Basic goodness is the fundamental worthiness of every individuals. We are worthy to God always in everything. 7) Beliefs in a cruel God makes a cruel man. No matter what; every living creatures has the right to live and What makes their life cheap? Everything depends on everything. Nothing too big or too small in value. We can not love and hate at the same time; Being a vegetarian means love without cruelty happily. The mainstream religious people are killing people and sacrificing animals in the name of God. They promote God's cruel punishments. The Punishment is endless for Sinners/Devil according to religious scriptures. But God is love always. Overcome hate with love. If all religions for peace, unity? No way. Because they are not for peace. 8) Well, The God gave us everything to go from moment to moment in our lives as we do our part and pray only to thank god then the Love is in progress. The Love is always for everyone. We are always worthy of the God's love. Our greatest fear is; not to be loved by anyone but we are all loved by someone. When we eliminate all our unnecessary differences among us then true peaceful life is possible with the true love. If we can't find the peace within ourselves then we will never find it anywhere else. 9) This is the Fight for independence and freedom of humanity to worship God freely without religious guide and guidelines to restrict us. Unnecessarily, We do not want third party controls over us in anything ; especially in spirituality. 10) Revive Survive Thrive. Sincerely, The Real Peacemaker against religious oppression.

@@jotar0900 🧑‍🍼We are in great danger in a system.🌌🧘☝️First of all, Read all and talk with understanding. Believe in fiction but not facts. Know facts. Source of creation is God. Life is creation. All depend on each other. All are connected. We cannot separate anything from everything. Means all are different but the oneness. Love your love everyday as much as you can. Live very meaningful life of joys then automatically you will share your joys with others. What you expect to do to you for happiness then do to others so you feel usefulness and gratitude to all. Only time truly you are okay when you are okay with everything. It doesn’t mean everything will stay the same forever. Everything will change. You believe in Newtonian physics but not Albert Einstein. Only spacetime. now and here. No past and no future. Go near the speed of light or Go out of the earth in space near blackhole. Time slow down. No one knows everything. No one knows the ultimate truth of reality. One question leads to another question then that question leads to another question so forth. No true value of anything. There is no no true measurement of anything because all are changing. How to measure something against something when everything is changing continuously? God wants us to take responsibilities for our righteousness life but not for all the consequences of our actions because they are continued to exist among us. So, How can god punish us for all our consequences? The mainstream religious people believe we are full of sins because of all our actions. Freewill is an illusion. People always choose the perceived path of greatest pleasure. So, we do not have choices all the time. In contrast teachings of the mainstream religions are promoting people to do god's will always because we all have choices of freewill always. Meditate and /or have sensory isolation experience to aware of who you are. You are not accumulated stuff. Just be aware of what is focusing now? Whatever you call “my” my nose , my legs etc.., not you.
War for Resources inevitable. Over Consumptions of finite resources of earth deteriorate the earth🌍🥀day by day. No access to electricity and clean water by billions of people right now. No one is going to come above and save us. Wake up to the truth and wake up the rest to the unity of feel of oneness. The solution is Resource based economy.

Don't only think that this is only limited to UAE. This case extends to all over Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia where my father worked as a mechanical engineer for almost 40 years for Saudi state run oil company Aramco and then later for a German company. People from South East Asian countries are often get half or even lower than what a Saudi gets for the same profession but people from 'white' countries such as UK, Germany or USA work there, they would get double or sometimes triple the wages for the same job.

just seeing this video 9 years later and i wanted to share my experience having lived in dubai for a year. first of all it makes me unbelievably mad that ‘dubai porta potty’ is the thing about dubai that blew up and not this. at least that shows the tip of the iceburg that is corruption in the gulf countries but i wish people would open their eyes and see this!! first of all do not believe people that say ‘people in dubai don’t know about this m because every single person knows full well. it is only hidden from the tourists. every morning i would wake up at 5am, look out my apartment window and see workers out opposite to me. they would still work in 50°c heat. they would still be working late into the night. they looked dirty, hungry and exhausted. my school needed building done on it while i was there, and the workers would fall asleep in my schools gym because they were so fatigued. then you have the maids and cleaners, we had a cleaner who we only had to pay equivalent of £10 for 2 hours, which in and of itself is only minimum wage for 16 year olds in the uk but obviously the cleaning company takes a percentage of that. we gave her more money but that is not common of people in dubai. the rich there are so rich they lack any world awareness outside of their little bubble and are some of the most stuck up, insufferable people i have ever met. they know about all of these conditions but for the most part they simply do not care. they argue that it either doesn’t happen or that ‘every country was built off of slavery’. but in dubai and other gulf countries this is still happening. please wake up and understand every penny you spend in dubai is going into the hands of the government and individuals that uphold this. you would be staying in a building built by these workers, going to attractions built by these workers and making the already extreme wealth divide in dubai more so. there is not a small number of slaves that live there as well, most of uae’s population is indian and i can promise you a large percentage of that is these workers.

They can't. Its not that straightforward. First, nobody cares in India about that i.e. no votes i.e no actions taken.
No incentive for any government to do the work.
And we are in a country where majority population are either poor , not paying taxes or due to corruption, government has very less finance. Bringing them here means more financial burden which they will never take.
So you go ahead, make some money and go to Dubai, help them. Don't expect that India will help them. They can't. We are not wealthy like US ( which has 9 times economy ) China( which has 4 times economy still they won't for their workers ) etc.
Sometimes its just hard to face the fact that our country is poor and not that powerful as we like to think.

Much respect to BBC Ben Henderson and his courage to get a secret camera in that totalitarian country...risking his own life. I’m sure Ben Henderson will never be allowed back in the country. (9:59) was the most powerful moment in this video...when you hear a grown man crying, it’s very telling. He’s crying out of absolute frustration and fatigue...he is a very tired individual, hungry, hopeless and utterly powerless to Dubai’s government. This is what modern-day slavery is...to deceive incredibly disadvantaged people by selling a myth of luxury and dreams in a foreign country just to be robbed of your passport and dignity as soon as you enter forced to work in bondage in the most shanty mild conditions. Where is the Humane Society on this? Obviously Dubai has kept this a major secret because that is how you built every great civilization...on the back of slaves.

Always wanted to visit Dubai, looks amazing but I couldn't after learning what the city's true identity is and how it was built and still being built. Those guys don't even make $50 usd per week and work over 12 hours a day. They were better off in Bangladesh or whatever country they tried to escape in hopes of building a better life just to get their passports taken away (they probably destroy them) and effectively enslave and trap the workers.

Its really the construction companies who outbid eachother in offering to build for less. Ofcourse the sheiks government is supposed to investigate if the work environment is up to standards, but that means it takes longer for his city to be built. It's the place for corruption to flourish.

The costs of living are higher aswell for workers then in India. These construction companies could give them higher wages but then the prices for building are higher aswell. Then It's quite profitable for such an enterprise to bribe someone in the government who is supposed to make sure these construction workers are safe.

I can partially agree to your comment. The standard of living of the Indian's/ Pakistani's/ Bangladeshi's is what has provoked them to say "its better then the conditions back home". However, this should bot be the terms of returning a favor for those who are providing there services as labor. On the other hand, it is kind of true, jobs are better overseas then in homelands. This is a big conundrum my friend.

+ZIAD LABIB This brings to mind the pictures you may have seen after WWII ended. The American soldiers gathered the German townspeople who lived nearby the concentration camps & made them walk in single file past all the group burials of Jewish skeletons, into the crematoriums, etc., as they felt these people were partially at fault for keeping the secret. If such an existence is also going to come to the workers for the 2022 World Cup, let your protests go to each and every media you can find. Then, at least, there will be no excuse of those people not knowing about it. Sad, just sad.

I have lived in Dubai** for 3 years. NON-MUSLIM expat laborers are treated the worst~They not only get their passports confiscated but they also get the least pay and many times do not even get paid at all, employers stop paying them and just give them food(sometimes not even food) so they can not send any money home to their family and they cannot even afford the basic necessities like soap. The expat laborers are not even allowed to talk or ask help from foreigners or the media, if they get caught doing it, then later they get beaten and tortured in jail. They also barely get enough clean water to drink or even clean with.
