I absolutely love his videos, and this is well done, but he does it a bit differently then what we are being taught, and I do not like it as much, we do it so at each node that we are looking at, we assume current is flowing away in all directions, even though it may be obvious that it isn't right because its more important to stay consistent, and everything should work out in the end.
Sweet mother of god , I can't believe myself , I understood circuits for the first time in my life , two years of hearing teacher's bullshits and understand nothing , but you , you saved my life man , a one big thumb up for your video
MY ELECTRICAL PRINCIPLES EXAM IS THIS SATURDAY, YOU'RE A LIFESAVER THANK YOU SO MUCH! You have helped me through so many modules. I deeply appreciate this channel and your work.
@@pyton1d752 I failed my EP exam by a small enough margin that they let me rewrite at the special exam and still complete my Comp Eng degree in 4 years ✨ No clue if I typed my original comment about the main exam or the rewrite - life has changed so much since then in any case. Shout-out to The Organic Chem Tutor for getting my ass on the right track to work at a FAANG 🫡
Rather than going through all the trouble of trying to guess the correct direction of current in a node branch, just pick one. If the current goes the other way, it'll just give you a negative value. Flip the sign, flip the arrow.
i just tried what you said and it was way easier and quicker! but im more prone to making mistakes this way compared to his method so pick and choose i guess
He is the teacher of course he knows we can pick any direction but breaking it down like split the circuit in half is really cool way to analyze which side has more potential.
@@jealouseggs5619 i knew before hand current likes to travel through least resistance so when i saw the parralel circuit i seperate it into a series circuit and added the ohms up in series and knew the current would flow towards the smaller ohm's direction

Lmao this would have helped me about 4 weeks ago before my final. On another note you saved my precalc grade with your final review and I can't thank you enough. You are a God among men!!
your teaching was so good that i thought i had to give back something....so i didn't skip a single ad for ya. Keep teaching bro, you're making it easier for many students out here, keep it up👍
I'm an environmental science student and I'm lucky that I have found this channel. Whether I am studying math, chemistry, and physics, this guy is always there to teach me. Thank you
You do not have to try and find out the direction of current. You can make up your own direction from the get go as long as you are consistent. In KVL you choose counterclockwise or clockwise for all loops and remain consistent. In KCL you choose all currents to leave a node or all currents to go into a node and you will get the right answer. Think of it like scaling an equation by a constant of -1 depending on which convention you choose. You will get the same value when solving. Trying to find the direction of every current is inefficient and will lead to errors if you are not careful. After you find the node voltages you can find any current for any given direction with simple Ohms law. This video was more standard KCL than node voltage. Node voltage is supposed to make KCL even easier by choosing one defined direction. You are less likely to miss signs doing it this way.
You are seriously the best teacher in the world. You saved my ass last year with chemistry and now you are saving my ass again with Electric Circuits. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
17:18. He added the resistors in Vc in series to find the current of the whole sub-circuit, that enabled him to find Vc. In the first sub-circuit the current is already known, so finding Vb was easier.
at 14:00, you can do it either way, if you get a negative current for R3 then that will mean it goes the other way from what you chose. Still so amazing and useful going in-depth
I have a test tomorrow on mesh analysis, nodal analysis, super nodes and super mesh. After watching your videos, I went from “no way I will pass this test” to “this stuff is easy” thank you so much for helping!
Some College professor and school teacher should watch this channel's video , that how to give understanding to students . Really 'Organic Chemistry Tutor' you are genius .

WELL DONE!!!! THANK YOU, FOR A REALLY CONCISE TUTORIAL!!! I NEED TO REVIEW THIS STUFF, AND, WILL WATCH IT AGAIN, TO TRY TO GRASP YOUR "STYLE", BUT, IT SURE IS NICE TO SEE SUCH A COMPETENT APPROACH TO THIS POTENTIALLY CONFUSING PROBLEM!
Thanks for the examples and clear step-by-step explanation. Enough examples like this and my brain WILL begin to understand it. This is why the key to really learning is working lots of examples.
Correct me if am wrong , I attempted it before looking at you approach(17:00), I used the understanding that current will always flow through an easier path which means current from R5 would rather take R4 path than that of R3 as R4 has less resistance than R3 so R3 most there fore be coming from 8amps.
to calculate current total he used total resistor * total voltage and as current is equal in series at any branch then he used the current he got to find the voltage at 4ohm resistor.
Been working through Hayt's Engineering circuit analysis on my own and this channel is extremely crucial to getting through all the problems in the book. Thank u!

Looking at the most viewed section gives you a great idea of where the hardest part or the confusing bit is and really helps focus my attention in the run up to that
13:57 , I appreciate your method to decide whether Vb is greater or Vc. But I don't think we will get a wrong answer if we just assume one direction of current through BC, i.e. red or blue. If we assume the wrong direction suppose, from C to B, in writing the KCL at node B, (19:16), we will do i1-i2+i3=0, (instead of i1-i2-i3) and i3=(Vc-Vb)/5, (instead of (Vb-Vc)/5) which ultimately will adjust the sign and we will get the correct equation. Correct me if I am wrong somewhere. Thankyou!

Attention! For anyone watching this video, there is a better way to solve this type of problems without needing to make so many assumptions, the trick is to treat all currents as if these are going into the node even when the signs tells you otherwise, by assuming all currents to go into the node you'll get the same answer regardless I've tested it and it works 100% of the time. My current professor tought me this technique and instead of substituting you can also use cramers rule which makes this type of problems 60% easier than they seem. Trust me it saves a lot of time.
Hey.I would like to make a question. In 16:34 why the left part is not in series since (10+5 are not added but we just use 50 and the left part is in series(10+4=14 is added)?
Tip: To avoid confusion.. Actually you can assign anywhere the direction of current is, like in I3, in the final answer it will go negative, then it means it's go other way..
Congrats, really detailed explanation, you can skip the voltage guessing calculation for Vc and Vb, by assuming a direction, at the end, just change the sign, hope that can help.
@The Organic Chemistry Tutor Any idea why at 17:00 comparing both the circuits on the LHS and RHS, the LHS circuit why do we not add the 10 Ohm resistor to determine the current for Vb and for the RHS, we added both the 10 and 4 Ohm resistor. Thanks

Yes if in R3 we use the reversed direction, it will give -2, which means we have used the wrong direction. then change it
