I'm still waiting for someone to make an actual complete tutorial for OBS. I've yet to see anyone cover not using a mic and/or camera of any kind, no video's anywhere if you don't want to record full screen and a massive majority seem to only want to talk about streaming and not just simple recording a window on the monitor...I am extremely frustrated by this lack of information. Not everyone is a streamer.
@@KevinStratvert No, that video only shows how to record in full screen and the cropping was only done for the camera recording. Here's an example...you have 3 windows open on your desktop, you want to record one of those windows, doesn't matter if it's a browser window or a program you have running, all that matters is it's a window. You want to record that window without making it full screen and not have everything else on the desktop showing in the video. I've been watching tutorial video's for almost 2 weeks, and have not seen one example of how to accomplish that. My reason is to record Twitch video's that someone gave me permission to record, only way to do that, not use full screen and not have a tiny window, is to use the popout player, which I can make as large or small as I want, that is what I want OBS to pick up and nothing else. Using the url does not work in this example, as using it only picks up the original page and not the popout player. Using display capture records everything showing on the monitor, same with window capture.
@@KevinStratvert Hi Kevin I want to record a Powerpoint presentation with me in the corner small. I have managed the camera thing, but I am not able to set the screen to record the Powerpoint presentation. When you record, it records all these screens one in another. I am sure nobody wants to record and show that! Pse help!
Dude, you are a hero of today's digital world. I've been starting doing some online courses, and your OBS tips have shed light on my digital literacy! I thank you so much. Keep helping people with your content. Regards from Jakarta, Indonesia.
Most of these features are awesome! Chroma key, Excellent!! Auto remux, Wow! Multiple audio tracks, Something i need these days!!!! Thanks kevin. You're the best
I've also resorted to recording directly to mp4 especially when clips are shorter (1 - 3 min max). If it fails to record (which hasn't happened yet), it's simple to re-record.
I really love obs. For several years I searched around for a decent screen recorder that didn't cost an arm and a leg. Then I came across OBS.......very high level software!
@@KevinStratvert What to do...but not as powerful as kevin. Kevin has some unknown power that gives him 200% energy for "Hi Everyone Kevin Here". I feel that :)
You are the best. When I show your face in the thumbnail I can fully trust the video. But for the other videos I have to check the views, comments, dislike and so on😂😂
Yessss. I wanted this. OBS is a game changer. I have never heard of "Zoom It" but I am definitely checking it out. Also hoping for an in-depth tutorial of "Zoom It" from you. This is do helpful. The legend is just making us happier everytime he drops a video. 👏 Btw so happy to hear that you like us so much 😊
Great video. I think I will set OBS to record direct in MP4, as I'm not worried about OBS or Zoom crashing. Simple additional trick. To make floating graphics or titles in OBS, I set the PowerPoint background to bright green, and then apply ChromaKey. This is a dead simple way to do this, without having to learn (or remember) anything else about OBS or filmmaking.
I usually also record direct to mp4 especially when recording short clips. If you're recording a longer session, definitely worth considering mkv. Love the tip of using PowerPoint for motion graphics!
Thank you so much Kevin, you are indeed an amazing guy. Your content is always helpful especially this OBS tutorial and comparison with other services, it made my life so much easier. I keep telling everyone around me about your awesome channel…
Hey Kevin, thanks 😊 for accepting my request and making this video and I'm quite happy! I would be more happy if you've had added the Webcam overlay on the recording screen 😄
How to control event sequences in OBS? Say start video source at a particular point of our audio source running below - and then iintroduce a picture at.a particular moment, etc?
Hey Kevin, How are you? I have one question, can we save multiple recording settings somewhere in OBS and use it as and when we need. Example: I save certain images recording frame etc for 16:9 recording and want to save it as a template I also want to create another profile for 9:16 recording and save it as a template. Based on need I want to use one of them. Is that possible?
Hi there! 😄 Yeah, you can. This is actually the Profile dock's job. There, you can create profiles, and those profiles saves, but only, the settings you've done on the settings page. So, whatever you set, it'll be saved in the profile. Then you can chose each one due to your needs.
Soooo.....to make sure I'm understanding, by recording multiple audio tracks, I can do a voice over for a video AFTER I finish the initial recording? I'm trying to do or start a video recording of a doodle to start. I want to do the voice over later. Also, I will most likely be recording multiple videos and putting them together for one large video....or something to that affect. Would I still be able to do all of that in OBS? Including doing fade outs and fade ins, or would I use other software for that? I watched a video earlier today about some free software for editing which I might have to try. But ... dang! This is sooo new to me and sooo intimidating.
Kevin, I like your tutorials. Very punchy and to the point. I want to know how to replicate your style? Do you have any tips on making neat videos? Personally I am flat out getting to the 30sec mark without having some sort of brain fart or interruption. Apart from your natural narrative talent, what do you do to keep your videos on track and focused? Scripts? Lots of editing? Rehearsing? I'd very interested to learn.
Keven, Very useful ! Thanks. Since I stream live in a classroom setting, using cameras and display documents, I have a large monitor to which I project OBS output via HDMI. Maybe you have already done a video on this. One little dialect matter: Pacific NW natives pronounce "I'll" as "Aww", which proves hilarious if understood.
Great video, Kevin. Love the highlighted mouse cursor. Question: how do I revert back to my normal mouse cursor when I'm not wearing my presenter / tutorial hat? It's making my daytime job a bit weird! LOL!
If I try to do the crop method holding down the ALT key, dragging the red border causes image to shift within the red borders (I'm not referring to just moving it around on the canvas). I suspect I have some random setting that's causing this, but can't figure out what it is.
Hi Kevin another great video! You are doing great mate. I use obs for Church live streaming since the start of the pandemic. I would like to add that the undo feature was only added from version 27. I would be nice if you could do a video on obs ninja and its alternative one day.
Hi this has been very very useful for me. Do you know how to capture keystrokes (pressing keyboard) when recording as well? That'd be very helpful for making tutorials. Thanks a lot again!
Hey Kevin! I'm starting a little late, in 2024, but I've been a subscriber for a while. What program do you use to edit videos? I am pretty fluent in Canva but wondered what might be better, have more features etc. What would you recommend? I learn pretty fast, especially if there's a tutorial or if the UI has common features. Thx for all your work! Vic
