So agree that this should be standard equipment for all cars now. One quick time-saver - you can use a wire tap rather than cutting and splicing the wiring. You just shove your new wire in one port, ease the other port over the wire you are tapping into, fold over the locking mechanism and squeeze it shut until it clicks into place with some pliers, which pushes the metal tap into both the new wire and the original wire. What you did here is cleaner for sure, but for us bodgers looking to save time the wire tap is a good option :-) Which reminds me I used my last one installing the Mini3 Dashcam from one of your other recent videos (which I'm loving BTW!) so I need to order some more!
Honestly, it looks like a pretty solid performer, and with regard to the vertical FOV, it will show you everything the other mirrors don't. Having a built in front cam is a bonus!
Those reversing cameras in the mirror would be so handy to have for spotting young kids and reversing in really tight areas, especially when in some places here car parks are almost too small for bigger cars like the public council car park in my local town. Also no matter how good you're at reversing you would still feel safer with a reversing camera for spotting very young kids which would never see behind the car. Also I generally find the modern new cars are a lot worse for rear visibility compared to old cars from the early 2000's and older. especially modern hatchbacks.
A very neat install. Using the existing rubber conduit in the boot lid is a great idea. I must have one of the oldest reversing cameras. Just a cheap one, I think I paid about $70 for it, nearly 7 years ago from an ebay seller in Sydney. 6" screen/mirror, which clips over the existing interior mirror. My vehicle is an FG mk2 cab-chassis: drop side tray, with 600mm high gates. The factory interior mirror can't see over the tray sides and is unusable anyway. Sturdy all-metal camera, which has survived being hit twice by other vehicles.
Eventually I couldn't handle the mirror rattling on my old BA for any longer!! So I pulled it off, fit an E-series mirror, and never had an issue again 😅 I actually have my reverse cameras in my AU and EB on the head unit, but have the rear bumper visible in the bottom of the screen so I can see exactly how close to things I can park, and also for lining up the trailer hitch👍
We just finished modifying a VE SV6 ute for a paraplegic & we've been looking at reverse cameras. I didn't think to look at Ozeparts. Cheers Sean for another great video.
I watched my daughter nearly get run over by a car backing out of a driveway when she was 2 and a half. Can’t have a car without a reversing camera again.
Love this idea! I noticed the mirror doesn’t have a dip switch on it, is it auto-dimming as well? I’ve fitted auto-dimming mirrors to my Territory and several BAs (mostly purchased from Territory Ghias at the local wreckers) so having 2-in-1 would be even better.
I have gone 2 step above this in my Territory, I added a factory reverse cam as the top of the line year model didn't have the cam set up and since them I have drilled and mounted 2 flush mount cameras in either side of the rear bumper and wired up with switches instead of connecting into the reverse lamp to a little 5" monitor so I can flick a switch to check my blind spots at anytime I feel like it
My AU mirror gets a really annoying vibration whenever i crank the sub woofer. Also the silver mirror layer is curling around the edges. Gonna have to fit one of these. Thanks for the video 👍
That's the sort of upgrade I was looking for with my fairmont as well seen one at supercheap auto but that one looks better again as you get more of the display. Very nice find mate.
I remember the video when you first got the BA you said the after market tripod gauges weren’t all working properly. Will you do a video where you fix or replace them?
No sorry, that issue is probably slightly different for each car. The boost gauge had a sensor and vacuum line under the dash that I accidentally unplugged, and the other one (oil pressure I think?) was a loose connection at the pressure sensor.
Hi mate, good video, I'd like to know 2 things: first, can you change the lens angle to include more rear surrounding area in the screen view; and second, is there a function that can turn screen image off when reversing so you can use it just as a mirror sometimes?
No way to change the lens angle, although I do want to investigate whether I can find a wider angle camera to swap out on the bootlid. By default the reversing cam will turn on when you select reverse, but pressing the button on the underside of the mirror once turns it off.
@@MotoringBoxTV Thank you, I've just seen a very similar product, I think called AutoVox, you can swipe your finger up and down on screen and it shows more top and bottom views. Also can you enable those green and red assisting lines on screen while reversing?
Swipe up and down does let you see the upper or lower portion of the image, and it will remember the setting. It isn't really changing the lens angle though. The reverse lines can be turned on or off but I have found them to be pretty useless.
That's a good idea with the rather high rear glass of the AU sedans. The more dim mirror is a good thing at night and no problem during the day. If you can record the rear you now have a rear facing dash cam and can get a clear view of a tailgater's registration. Now to fit a hubodometer to your Falcon. I actually made a mounting bracket for my NC Fairlane (same stud pattern).
Maybe you could add to the review with some night driving to see how it performs with headlights behind you. I cant see a lever to dip the mirror to reduce glare. I do alot of night driving and this may also be useful to others. Great review as usual.
I installed the same exact one in my car and for some reason when I start the car it’s always on reverse? I have to press the bottom button to put it back to Mirror and then it starts functioning normal.
I bought a similar cheapo reverse mirror for my mum and after a few months it just died even though it was fused. Not the camera but the screen itself. I can't say for sure but I suspect there may of been a voltage spike and taken it out. If I were you, I'd probably put dc noise removal before the power in to smooth out the signal (Jaycar AA3074 - $15). Or maybe the mirror just died, who knows.
I'm considering buying one of these jigger mirrors for my ba turbo. And was wondering if it would record like a dash cam from the front camera and the rear camera at the same time? It would be cool if you played with these jiggers for about a week or more before you made a video so you have more information about these products and functions they have. Love your videos awesome channel and love your ba turbo! I'm in new Zealand wish I could afford to move to Australia!
Yes it records front and back. You just have to play around with the rear cam so that the angle works well for reversing, but also good enough to record the traffic behind. Having a rear dashcam mounted higher up would always be better, but this is ok too.
Love your work. You should install some reverse sensors. Would be great to see you try and match the colours of the sensors to the car and get it looking as factory as you can.
I was pretty nervous about it as I didn't want to crack the screen, but luckily if you buy or make the removal tool and have a rubber tipped hammer or small mallet it is actually pretty easy!
@@smithy2 really? They can be a little difficult to get moving. I initially tried by hand and couldn't get it to budge, but the little rubber hammer made light work of it.

The only other suggestion I have is to try and make the tool every so slightly taller, incase it isn't quite compressing the clip far enough. even adding a few layers of electrical tape around it might make the difference. If that still doesn't work you may have to entertain the idea that it might be glued on! Or get a proper tool for confirmation anyway.
question does the size of this rearview mirror/ monitor interfere when using the sunvisor? as I bought a cheaper clip on type and found the sunvisor hits it.
You can actually swipe up and down on the screen to see the areas of the cam which are otherwise cropped out by the widescreen-style mirror! So that's pretty cool.
I think you're better off overall with a dash cam that has a reverse cam built in. Much more clear and good for safety purposes although the mirror one does look nice.. it just needs to black out the mirror when reverse is engaged imo.
I had one but took it out because if when it activates and it's sunny outside you can not see the monitor behind the mirror only time you can is when your in the shade.
