This song is beautiful, its a rare song to be sang about the IRA and show that they too are people and have feelings. It shows the soft side of the "terrorists"(witch they are not)
5/5
I see where you are coming from when you say they are not terrorists but I don't think it is because they are not terrorists by definition but because we are not certain of how to define the word terrorist. By the British definition, the first battalion of the parachute regiment of the British army(the fellas sent to NI) are terrorists and so would the Turkish government with their attacks on the, so called terrorists, the YBS, their attacks on civilian infrastructure and they're assistants to ISIS. The IRA should be looked at as a kind of side effect. A mental state of a group of human beings, forced to the ends. I don't support the IRA nor do I believe they were right in many of their attacks. I simply believe it was inevitable that a Nationalist extremist group was bound to be formed because of the poor response of the British government and awful state the province was in in the years coming up to the troubles.

i am a retired soldier and i understand this song and it hits a dark and buried part of me. So all of you who want to take a life need to understand that once you go down that road and take a life you cant go back there is no rewind button in the real world.
I'm not at all sure what clips of Jude Law as Vasily Zaytsev during the Battle Of Stalingrad have to do with Ireland, but OK, I guess.
It has the heart to suit the song. Makes me cry each time I see this vid.
FREEDOM FIRST THEN PEACE!
Ireland unfree shall never be at peace
Gay White Irish Protestant, Not for long, a United ireland is inevitable, and your not very British when you can’t have your own border, you can’t have your flag raised, you can’t march in some areas, you can’t be a soldier and be public about it, you can’t hold a government without power sharing the list goes on.... The free state has just as much influence as the UK does. Your children will live under the tricolor.
@@freeeire564 The population is more british now than irish anyways like how ostpreussen was german but now entirely russian
Gurgle Mesh The demographics are changing, The nationalists are reproducing at a quicker rate than their unionist counterparts, Even if there is a unionists majority they are still living on stolen land and have no right to live there.
@Straight White British Protestant get outta her ya kekistany nationalist, yeah ik who you are you piece of shit. Go back to Britain and fuck off out of my country.
Love and best wishes to the wonderful people of the Republic of Ireland.
Your legacy is all over the World.

He doesn't kill the boy, he even says it in the song. "But in your memory mama his life I spared."
@@aoibhinnomahony7712 His mother is dead (to your memory mama), she would know if he was lying. He saved the soldiers life
@@aoibhinnomahony7712 The song is about a hero in his own country defending against a brutal crown force that wanted the whole world to bow to them. If he is only saying it to put his Mothers mind to rest, he is right. She would have been to hell and back in a war we did not ask for??
@@irishe-juicedirect6381 I'm Irish and had multiple ancestors who fought against the British government. I know what the song is about get a grip
@@aoibhinnomahony7712 WOW..... this was not a dig at you my friend! We are cut from the same cloth. I'm old enough to have dodged the bullets and bombs. I pray those days do not return.
I love the Wolfe Tones..Beautiful song..

This song really wakes up ones "mercy" emotion
"Miss? Nah, warnimg shot"
-Every soldier that has missed.
The movie in this is enemy at the gates btw
Beautiful 🇮🇪
Made me cry. Don't give a damn what context you put it in. All I hear is a man who, for the sake of his country, is fighting for it and promising he'll never hurt another soul once his country is free. Don't care if it's Irish, American, or whatever. It's all about the soul of the song not the context. I'm American with a mixbreed Euro heritage and Irish is prominent,
They had gone in the mire to destroy us and our nation and down after them we had to go.
Commander general tom Barry
The Sniper in this Film was from GLASGOW!
+Stargazer Nation™ 占星国家™ well kind of hard to find movies about irish snipers :P
He was a German sniper...and the guy playing the German sniper is Ed Harris an American so where do u come with that he's from Glasgow???
Erin Go Braugh! Thanks for the video, great work, a masterpiece!
- Beautiful song; I remember it done by Kathleen Largey as a child. No matter what you believe in, this melody and its words are heartbreaking! Thank you for this!
well done comrade, the best army know what they are fighting for.. and they love what they know, viva the irish spirit
I love this ballad and the footage from Enemy at the gates was brilliantly edited to fit in with the lyrics.
Beautiful. What a great pairing.
I was in holidays with my 4 kids in the south of ireland, great decent people , lovely scenery to be seen, plenty for the kids to see, better food in the south by far, great people out for the craic, and good pints of guinness, also good music, and the weather is a lot warmer compared to the black north
nice song !
My respect for the IRA
If you had to pick a sniper movie to cut this song to, it would have to be this. Even though there are no Irish in this movie, I think it relays the feelings of the sniper well. Thanks for the upload! Good job!
it is strange, but gives a beautiful song a lovely touch
ilove dis 1 it brings tears to my eyes everytime i hear it tanks for the chance to see it again
i am dutch irish i love the irish
You are a better man than I. I salute you. I've met a lot of old vets myself. It's
newer casualties that had me spouting off. Can't say much more.
i was raised in england and support irish people, theeres quite a few people like me, although not many
Nice song...excellent video production
what a beautiful but sad song! i'm korean, far from Ireland. we were under japanese rule over 35yrs. i can feel the pain what irish people feel. i do have no idea about Ireland and IRA till i heard this song. then now, i know that Ireland will be free and english must have to pay the debt in blood.
A thank you brother 13 years later.Freedom is a God given right be blessed my friend

The British have a lot to answer for,
The British Government has a lot to answer for, as all Governments do.
suberb subtlety - I love this song this all my heart Maurice
I hate being picky but why is there a gunshot when he aims at his head? Like kinda ruins the whole point of the song where he spares the kids life
including reserves, the usa ranks 7th in size of the military at about 3 million troops.
all 7 of the countries above that, together, add up to about 37 million.
in 1995 the atf estimated that there about 233 million firearms in the hands of private citizens. and im sure the number has grown since then.
Over a hundred years now and young folks are still dying for their religion in some parts of Northern Ireland. I feel so heartbroken for Ireland.
Its not religion, its national liberation, there are catholics who collaborate with the imperialist british empire and there are anglicans who fought against the british. Its just that catholics are more likely to be pro independence where as anglicans are more likely to be pro-british due to anglicanism being a religion pushed upon the irish people by the british with it putting the king at the head of the church.
I love this song :)
this is not the wolftones
video is taken from Enemy at the Gates, thats set in the USSR.

what a song
one of the best IRA songs ever
Exactly. As the gentleman who posted the song pointed out : It's about redemption. It was written by someone who doesn't advocate war, but only did what he had to do.
Ireland still not free
La canzone è strepitosa, ma il film di più: è lo splendido "Il Nemico Alle Porte" di J. J. Annaud, con Jude Law e Ed Harris, sull'assedio di Stalingrado.
Is that movie about vasily zaitzev and his sniper battle against colonel hoffseter
That was a good film "Enemy at the Gates " , great opening scene wit the wolf , It was the same French director who did , "the Bear "
wars over,,,,
Xjism, you are a very silly person. Very very silly. Ask any person in Northern Ireland with grandparents from Ireland what they want. They will want the Brits to leave and take their flag with them. Go on. Ask
xjxism car So, it was alright when England came over and forced us to live like they did and if we disobeyed it would be to the gallows? Even worse coming up to the War of Independence and during the war, where they shot people who they THOUGHT were part of the I.R.A, with no evidence more than they were a Paddy. And then again during the Troubles, being forced into prison without trial under assumption AGAIN. You tell me what's wrong with that, and how the Irish are wrong for responding with the same oppression and hate they showed us for over 800 years.
lol i can Remember a IRA sniper who was going around with a barret light 50. good old one shot Paddy he sure didnt miss.
We all know what its about but it goes with the song. They're are not many movies about a lone sniper in a war that are modern.
@MrMickroach Down to the wire, heart felt and true. Well said.
Heavy stuff mush
this is not the wolfe tones although they have a version of it, this performance is by a band called Athenrye
Enemy at the Gate
what a good song
Yes, I want to support you in your blatant attempt to break the world record for the amount of comments posted that contain the phrase "Son of Onan". That's what you're trying to do, right? So please go on!
@slapshot37GNR thank you,, bout time another irish guy had the balls to stand up for our freedom fighters :)
What united? Is it split or something?
PLEASE does anyone know the movie to this
we love argentina too..
This was an amazing movie
Unfortunatley when songs of this nature are posted on here, so goes with them comments from either side of the conflict. I prefer just o enjoy the music. Class song all the same!
A primary difference between airsoft firearms and BB guns is that airsoft firearms use 6mm or 8mm plastic and have muzzle velocities of less than 700 FPS which is generally considered safe in a controlled environment, while BB guns utilize metal ammunition and shoot at higher velocities (over 1000 FPS) making them unsuitable for gaming or training purposes.
Enemy at the Gates
i see you point here, but heres the explination. the clips are from the movie 'enemy at the gates' its not meant to be accurate to the song, jsut some clips the maker thought looked good to the song.
I visit Vets who don't have family or have family that can't or won't come. I met two, one was from Vietnam, the other is from Korea, I am not sure they would know that. However I really don't ask them much about what they did, just listen to what they want to tell me, maybe play some cards. It is the least I can do.
And you really need to chill, I only said the movie fits the song guys legit that was it.
@skittification Wtf is up about that "good job jim" shite ? Ive seen that text on last 4 pages on the tubes, whats up with that ?

@ChaseTerrier
You mean the French navy prevented supplies from over 2000 miles away reaching the British.
enemy at the gates
what is the name of that film
that was fucking deep
nice song
Well I have to admit I Am surprised you haven't had to make up a new account since April. Is that a record Warren?
Is the Armalite an AR15? It would seen seem logic and easiest to get an Irish American buys one and gets it in to the I.R.A. but I heard it was an AR18..That would seem a much harder weapon to obtain. Also ironic as they where built in England by Sterling Arms while the AR15/M16 was built by Colt.
The Americans were the primary suppliers of the IRA during the troubles lol
Luv it ...

The Irish still support you Argentina :-)
i like how this song is about Ireland but the clips are from Enemy at The Gates witch is about Stalingrad
@RedHandLad bit harsh,i know if myself and my misses moved stateside and had kids they would be irish, some over do it "my grandads girlfriends doctors cousins dentist was half irish,so im like two sixteenths Irish",but Irish families did go over there, thousands of them,a whole lot of them remaining more irish than alot they left back in ireland.anyway like tommy tiernan said,we have no idea what it means to be irish, other than maybe "it mean we are not fuckin english thats what it means!" :-P
The video is based on a duel that developed between Soviet sniper Vasily Zaitsev and German Major Erwin König. The soviet sniper has a Mosen Nagant 91-30 sniper (7.62x54r), not an armalite. After the Mosen was phased out, the SKS (7.62x39) came into play. Additionally, Major König carried a 7.92×57mm Mauser ; sorry, no Armalites here.
@MrMickroach
I like the analogy, nice one.
Mississippi and PA is Pennsylvania, i dunno about PD, are you sure you got the initials right?
how could you hate this song
"There can never be peace in Ireland until the foreign, oppressive British presence is removed leaving all the Irish people as a unit to control their own affairs and determine their own destines as a sovereign people, free in mind and body, separate and distinct physically, culturally, and economically."

Savages but the boys with uniforms were mothers kids and heroes, they talk about people fighting for their country, these boys were fighting their village, town, county, brother sister mother father, life. I understand things are different now but none us lived through that shit or can really judge these peoples actions cos we are all soft looking back to a place or time we've never been. Good tune tho straight up.
