Good version that. I always understood the concept that he let the squaddie live cos he he was sick of the killing and promised his mam he wouldn't kill if it wasn't necessary. And in this story it wasn't necessary to kill the squaddie. According to IRA rules he should have shot him anyway. But on a human level, he thought about the promise he'd made to his ma. So he let the boy live. Never heard this version tho 👍👍

So he could have wasted that squaddie lying on the road. But he let him live. It's a good song cos you find out the squaddie was spared right at the end. I've heard lots of versions of this and hers is the best I've heard.
