"Thyroid nodule can be noticed by the patient, on routine physical examination or an incidental finding on imaging such as a CT chest or neck, PET scan. A thyroid nodule can also be called a nodular goitre which means an abnormal growth of the thyroid gland.
People are almost always concerned when they feel a lump and the most important thing to do is to exclude thyroid cancer. Thyroid cancer fortunately make a small proportion of thyroid nodule about 5%. Important to keep note that the prevalence of cancer is higher in several groups including children, adults less than 30 years of age, patients with a history of head and neck irradiation, patients with a family history of thyroid cancer."

I was diagnosed with a multinodular goitre. And haven't really had it monitored at all. Always had blood tests though.
Then I saw an ENT for an ear problem, I told him about it, and he was shocked I hadn't had any further scans, so he sent me for an ultrasound yesterday. I already have had a call and he wants a needle biopsy done.
It's a weird nodule I guess.
Anyway, this has at least given me a great explanation and hopefully he's just being cautious.
Having an inflammatory condition as well, I'm sure, hasn't helped.
I also left this scan a little while to do....after he asked me to. It's been 4 months.

Great explanation of thyroid nodules. I see this often when a patient has a CT scan of the chest which picks up an incidental thyroid nodule. Lung nodules are a similar issue for lung specialists

I don't have a goiter. My endocrinologist suspected I had a hot thyroid nodule based on the results of repeated blood tests. She sent me for a scan and there it was, a hot thyroid nodule. I was put on carbimazole which, in the long run, caused a carbimazole-induced hypothyroidism.

I have been struggling with hypothyroidism and lost of smell,I didn't know what to do felt so confused then a friend of mine introduce me to Dr iyaremoses on TH-cam channel who helped me get back to normal

Many thanks for this excellent video. Just would like to emphasise how a nodular goitre is investigated: serum TSH and free thyroxine is sent to assess if someone has hyperthyroidism or subclinical hyperthyroidism. USS can tell us if it cystic or solid. Solid nodules can be investigated with a radionuclide scan to see if it is a hot or cold nodule, and FNA should follow if it is cold. IF a patient has tracheal compression, then you need to get a CT or MRI scan of the neck and thorax, but do NOT use iodine contrast as it can induce hyperthyroidism. Finally, antibodies against thyroglobulin and anti TPO antibodies should be sent. Get a family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN type 2, as these patients need a serum calcitonin sent.

In children, does a puffy neck and little lumps felt around thyroid area be a concern. Child tall and heavier for age?
I have a lump on my thyroid doctor called it a goiter. I have had many blood test talking and thyroid fiction test he said they were all fine. I have symptoms of under active thyroid. Waiting for a scan hopefully get it soon to find out what is causing it.

Non reactive nodules are same as cold nodules which do not have high risk of malignancy.. most non reactive nodules are benign
I had to take radioactive iodine 4 years ago goiter went down and felt much better. Doctors say my T3/T4 levels are still too high and recommend to take more radioactive iodine which would destroy my thyroid and I would have to be dependent on prescription medications for the rest of my life something I’m opposed to. At this point I felt better and could function normally and never went back.
You need to update your treatments for hyper nodules an cancerous nodules. Radio freqency!

my mother has 12×8 mm nodule in left thyroid gland is it dangerous????
I have a 5.5cm x 4.3cm x 3.5cm nodule, (All blood tests normal) It defintely needs to be removed so I don't really understand why I have to wait months for an ultrasound and FNA, can't they just take it out and find out if it's cancerous once it's on the table rather than leaving it in my neck so it can grow some more. If a thyroid nodule is a cyst, and gets aspirated, would the cyst fluid not aspirated leak out into the body?
Or is a thyroid cyst easily identifiable, and therefore would never be aspirated?
Does the doctor numb you before doing the fine needle aspiration, and how long does this procedure take? Thank you 🙏
The 1st time I got the fine needle aspirations Biopsy the Dr didn't not give me Anesthesia, she randomly poke my nodules with Ultrasonic help. Took 45 minutes, hurts my throat and sore for 2 days. The 2nd Biopsy after 5 yrs they gave me Anesthesia and took 2 hrs .

Why cold nodules have low tsh levels , even though they are hypofunctioning nodules??

You mean I have thyroid cancer? I was admitted at the hospital because of tremor and heart palpitation. I am now on process for radioactive iodine, but will be seeing a doctor for thyroid.
Crazy my THS is perfect but my right side thyroid turned into a goiter I guess they say and it's 4 to 5 times bigger and the thyroid on the left side of my neck and it's actually pushing my windpipe I'm hoping it's because my iodine levels are down
