    I absolutely LOVE my green stalk planter! Got it Feb. 2022, plants are thriving. Already harvested radishes!! Recently bought the watering system, haven't hooked it up yet. Thank you for the tips Susan! God Bless, May your garden be fruitful! 🙏🏻✝️

    Looks like a solid idea for the garden. Thanks for the tour of the planter.

    I'm using the watering system on my greenstalk. It takes a bit of tweaking to get the water to flow efficiently. Thank

    My greenstalk is home to several pepper varieties.

    I have 5 more Greenstalks to put together. Can i borrow Bill? 😅 Just kidding. I found it easier to put the top layer on empty, put something over the hole in the middle, and scoop the potting mix in and then plant it...this way is good if you don't have an extra set of hands. Going to plant one with jalapeno peppers (love Cowboy Candy) and another with sweet banana peppers.

      That sounds like a good option. I have to be careful with my back so I always go with the "Bill option!"

    how do you rotate the greenstalk if it is attached to a hose and the automatic watering system full time?

    • @SusansInTheGarden
      @SusansInTheGarden  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought I would need to rotate it but find it's really unnecessary since the sun is right overhead for the summer month.

    Really a great system. Did you water each layer off camera? or just rely on the self watering system? Was it enough water? How does it perform in a rainy condition?

      I assembled it first. Then, while Bill got the water timer sorted out and because it was really hot, I added a couple of buckets of water to the whole planter. It's tricky starting with dry potting soil but lots easier to work with it while filling the planter!

    I’ll be interested to see how that cherry tomato works, when I grow them in the garden they get so tall and wild. I still haven’t gotten a green stalk, I don’t have a place that I could put it where it would work.

    • @SusansInTheGarden
      @SusansInTheGarden  ปีที่แล้ว

      I chose both varieties because they are relatively small. 'Orange Hat' is only supposed to get 6-8" tall. The 'Patio Yellow Cherry' is going to be about 18" tall. We shall see!

    Very nice video! What kind of soil did you use? Also how often do you water? I think I overwatered my strawberry plants, the leaves turned almost white.

    • @SusansInTheGarden
      @SusansInTheGarden  ปีที่แล้ว

      I used an organic potting soil. At first, our automatic timer watered the planter once a day, not it's getting watered twice a day. The plants are doing great and that watering system is fantastic!

    • @lilycardoso4679
      @lilycardoso4679 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SusansInTheGarden Thanks. Your soil looked different from most potting soils. I need to reduce the amount of water because as you said too much is coming out at the bottom and it's leaching all the fertilizer. I'm going to put a dripper on the top hose.

    • @SusansInTheGarden
      @SusansInTheGarden  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lilycardoso4679 I would recommend keeping a close eye on it and frequently testing the amount of moisture in the soil by a) watching how the plants look (you shouldn't see any wilting) and b) poking your finger into the soil up to the 2nd knuckle. The soil should feel lightly moist.

    How many bags of soil in total please? Thank you.

    • @SusansInTheGarden
      @SusansInTheGarden  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there. That's kind of difficult to answer because potting soil seems to come in a lot of different sizes of bags! For the size I planted, I needed a total of 40 gallons of potting soil, which comes to about 5 cubic feet. I hope that helps.
