----------------------------------------------
Norse Atlantic 787-9 Premium Class is a lot better then you think it is. Sure, it's the exact same thing as what Norwegian Air 787-9 Premium Class was, but not enough people made the effort to try that before they went bust.
They're trying it again, but this time with a different name. Fingers crossed that a simple name change is all that it will take to make it profitable this time…
This is a full review of flight number 701 from London Gatwick (LGW) to New York's John F Kennedy Airport (JFK). Total flying time was 7 hours and 44 minutes, my seat number was 4D, and the aircraft registration was G-CKWP.

Welcome back, Scott…always happy to see one of your videos showing up!
Thank you kindly!
Great review 👏. Let's hope a "SANspotter" recommendation will boost Norse Atlantic's load factor and survivability. ❤✈️
Thanks! I wouldn’t get your hopes up. I carry very little clout in this game. 😅
I like Norse Atlantic, they have a good product and nice crews. Not to mention the food.. I hope they pull through.
I flew with them from JFK to Rome and back last summer. The flight was pretty full in back but light in Premium Economy where my husband and I sat. The service was just about what you described and made for a nice flight. My husband is tall so we are always looking for a cost effective way to be comfortable and Norse was great. They are definitely the airline to beat for us if we travel to Europe since once you get to a big city it is easy to travel by train.
I was just replying to another comment on here but I thought I would leave my own to correct you and tell you Norwegian did not go bust during the pandemic, but they closed all their long haul routes down and got rid of their 787s. But they are alive and well and operating 737s all over Europe. You can even see two of their flights on the Gatwick departures screen in the video. Great review of Norse though, I hope they can sustain the long haul low cost model.
How was JFK to Gatwick? Was JFK strict with your personal item? Did they make it size it with the new dimensions?
Yeah, I think that Play Airlines took some of Norwegian Air and Wow Air's routes to North America.
Always good to see you back
Thanks! Good to be back!
Safe travels. Have an amazing day! Cheers.
Thank you for sharing your trip here.😊
I am glad you had that seat empty. And having that space beside you wss soo good!! And the airline's food good for Economy Class. And I think people are using this airline and saving some costs. Again, thank ypu fir trying this airline out to fly long-haul. I know for me, I need more leg room traveling on those long-haul trips.
lovely seeing you again greetings from the netherlands
Great way to start my Weekend!. Miss flying and hope to do it again soon.
Ain’t nothing like a gushy Norse video to kick off the weekend, eh? 😄 Hopefully you get back in the air soon!
Fantastic trip report as always Scott!!😸
Glad you enjoyed it!
I also live very close to Gatwick, on a bus stop away to be precise. The entrance and check in area of the south terminal has been in a state of renovation for so mamy years. But airside it is good and they have lounges you can pay for, and a Camden food company if you looked, the last time I was there i saw it tucked away in a corner. Norse Atlantic's predecessor had a big base at LGW, and they had 14 hour flights to Buenos Aires and Bangkok too as well as a lot of shorthaul. Norse are flying to a few places including Las Vegas, Los Angeles and other places.
Yeah, I noticed that Camden food co! I was half tempted to check it out, but figured that a proper breakfast at a sit down restaurant would be a better choice considering that I had no idea what the food on Norse would be like.
Great content as always.
Much appreciated!
Great trip report!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video!! ❤
We seriously considered Norse for our most recent trip. Ultimately, we booked Virgin Atlantic premium economy (with points) instead. Mostly, it was because the schedules/routes seemed to be in flux with Norse, and they weren't releasing the routes/schedules early enough for our liking. I would definitely consider them for the future.
I enjoy your reviews. You do a very good job at being concise thorough and entertaining. Great job! 🎉
Norse Atlantic is an amazing airline. I really hope they stay around. Just flew JFK - CDG and the flight was packed.
Love the report Scott. Really hope Norse make it too. In a purely selfish way you want them to stay under the radar because like Norwegian the fares can be extraordinary. Already eyeing LAX to LGW. They don’t seem to appear on search engines, maybe I’m wrong. They have just introduced a brave new route from LGW to Cape Town. Lots to admire. Fingers and toes crossed for them.
Yeah, several people have mentioned the new Cape Town route. Sounds really interesting! I had no idea. I really hope they make it too, but it may take a miracle at this point…
Never seen what Gatwick looks like on the inside. I wish I could unsee it.
Nuts lol 😄
THANK YOU for commenting about the nuts. You’re the first one who noticed. 😄
@@sanspotter lol can’t believe no one else caught that. We know now if you ever start an airline you’ll have warm nuts on the menu!
That's awesome 👌 Vlog I ever enjoyed 😉 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
A million thanks for NOT producing a “subtitle every second” brain melter. I want to fly Norse now…..but with a window seat. 😂
Nice one, didn't now this airline was an option. Looks like a great product in terms of value for money.
Yeah, it seems a lot of people don’t know about this. We need to get the word out! 📢
Very good video Scott. I have watched several other AvGeek videos of them flying Norse Atlantic and most all have been positive like yours. It would certainly be sad to see them go under due to lack of passengers. Norse Atlantic may be the best kept secret of transatlantic flight.
Thank you! Yes, hopefully our videos will be enough to get people to take notice of Norse. Things aren’t looking good for them at the moment, but I’m hoping they can pull through.
I just checked. Oct 2024 dates Norse basic economy (no seat selection no checked luggage) LGW-JFK is 470 round trip versus 448 round for United economy (seat selection and 1 checked luggage). In premium economy classic Norse is 984 round trip (1 checked luggage) versus United for 1003 round trip (2 checked luggage). With these prices, I would pick United as I can collect miles and use my *G status for lounge access (lounges in Heathrow are so much better). Plus United departs from Heathrow which is much easier to get to compared to Gatwick.
Yeah when they are the same price, kinda hard to not choose a full service airline over the low cost options
I remember flying Norwegian in 2017! Judging by all of the surprise and delight in this video it seems like Norse hasn’t dropped the ball. I’ll have to see what trips we can book with them!
Surprise and delight - that would’ve been so much better than simply saying ‘yup’ on the thumbnail I think. I couldn’t think of anything better at the time. 😄 But yeah - you’ve got to give it a go!
Flying has been a hobby of mine for ages. I just checked the airfare, Premium from Gatwick to JFK, one way. $500. The seat and the meal you ate looked almost identical to the American Airlines's flight I took last week in their Premium Economy from Barcelona to Philadelphia. the AA Premium Econ Gatwick to JFK, one way, was $3000. Flying Norse under these circumstances would be an absolute no brainer!
Definitely! Only downside is that you wouldn’t get any AA / OneWorld points for it. Airlines like Norse are best enjoyed when you’re not tied to any specific airline alliance. 😄
Good video!
I was wondering about the lack of a video screen. Glad it does exist!
It does exist! Technically I had three all to myself thanks to having two empty seats next to me.
I flew this product in the short lived LAX-BER route (I booked the day the route was announced because it fit perfectly into my existing travel plans) so. I had more time to enjoy the seat.
Thanks to massive recline it can be bothersome to get out of a window or center seat if the seat in front of the aisle seat is reclined. Many passengers didn't realize the footrest AR adjustable. The premium trays sometimes don't stow correctly which led to a go around in Berlin. because the cabin crew wasn't finished securing the premium cabin.
I'm currently looking into the BER-JFK and Mia-ber route this fall. Of course premium (with these prices). Pro tipp: it's cheaper to book the cheapest premium option and add luggage than to book the medium premium option which as far as I can see only has added luggage.
Wow! Your review (and music) made me feel like it was a very relaxing flight for you in spite of it being 7 hours long. Great job again!
Thanks! Yeah, definitely one of the most relaxing flights I’ve had in a while.
Well done Norse! Well done Scott!
Well well well…long time to see! 👋🏻 Hope you’ve been…well. 😄
@@sanspotter Well hello! Life has been well taxing (actually works well in uk English) but I must say lately I have been doing quite well indeed. Well see what the future brings, but new Sanspotter videos (and a car review!) are always wellcome 😌
(My own response hurts me too. I am well and truly sorry)
Great review, thanks very much
Wow, it's just like the old days when I used to have it in the back of my head to try Norwegian Air and kept reminding myself to do it before they went out of business.
Well, now is your chance! 😆
Norwegian are still operating. They just stopped flying long haul during the pandemic. They still have over 100 aircraft and fly all over Europe.
Norwegian is still very much alive! They stopped their long haul routes after the pandemic but still operate alot of routes in northern scandinavia aswell as europe. Got over 100 boeing 737. They leased these aircrafts to Norse. Both norwegian companies!
Great review once again thank You
Scott, you sold me. Unfortunately, I'm not going to London any time soon, and certainly not from a JFK departure point.
Maybe I need to think about selling cars for a living. 🤔😄 But yeah - definitely keep them in mind for your next long-haul adventure!
Nice to see another new experience
I Have Experience Norse Atlantic Airways.Oslo-London New York In Premium Class.Great Vodeo
Thanks! Yeah, hopefully more people get the chance to try them soon.
The reading material - bathroom break comment is so accurate, cause that is me... LOL
Is wine complementary in PE or chargeable? We are considering Norse for a flight from MIA back to the UK in December. Thanks for the review.
Looks fantastic! BTW I live very close to LGW and it's a much nicer experience IMO than LHR which is ridiculously busy. LGW is small, and there are several restaurants and bars with runway or ramp views, plus plenty of decent shops. I always get to the airport early even though I'm a 10 minute taxi ride away and I always find things to fill my time. It's easy to get to LGW from central London (don't use the Gatwick Express - use the Thameslink service - just as reliable, not quite as fast but it's fast enough, and it's a fraction of the price.
Oddly enough, I paid for a ticket on the Gatwick Express from central London, but the weather was really bad that day and they had to shut it down. They put us on what I assume was the Thameslink service instead. It was a very expensive ride on a low budget train. 😅
My preference too - but parking is getting expensive, so I'm gravitating towards Stansted.
@@sanspotter that's a shame! The other thing with the Thameslink is that there are many more stations in Central London that you can pick it up at - and nicer stations - Victoria has to be the worst London terminus station there is...dark, dingy, cramped, not much there -
Getting there from any part of Surrey or Hampshire by train is a pain. Plus, you get looks with your baggage. 😂
@@prettymiffedbrit Sorry I live in Surrey and it is very easy for me.
I loved Norwegian Premium Economy. I had a great experience on their flight from FCO to JFK. I sure hope Norse survives and expands their route, but like you I am not very optimistic about it.
Fingers crossed that they can figure things out. 🤞🏻
I did two premium flights from Gatwick to JFK, one in 2018 on Norwegian, one last year on Norse. The seats were different in my experience. The Norwegian seats were a struggle to get out of, and you had to ask the people in the seats in front of you to unrecline, otherwise there was not enough room between the seat back and the armrest for you to escape your seat. There was plenty more room in the Norse seats.
Interesting! My assumption was that nothing had changed. But it’s good to know that they’ve made some important improvements from the Norwegian Air days.
@@sanspotter Probably the Norse seats had extra leg room over Norwegian, but I felt that the Norse seats were better than Norwegian.
Scott, did you have to purchase the headphones or were they included in the premium class fare?
It was included.
It looked amazing to me
It was!
Liking the Aero shoes. How you find them for travelling?
Just about perfect! Very lightweight and easy to slip on and off if I don’t tie them on so tight.
Question, the new Personal bag Measurement on website was 5 1/2 wide. Did they have sizers at the airport to make sure everyone complied? Thanks
I didn’t see any. They didn’t seem to be enforcing it at all.
Man I want to fly Norse in Premium so bad...only problem is they dont fly out of Chicago. Hope that changes before too long
Yeah, I think they need to at least try Chicago. They might do well!
It looked pretty full down the back!!👏 Norse needs to market their brand more and they haven't had to deal with the Rolls Royce engine issues that Norwegian got bogged down with. Nice flight review 👏
Why the aisle seat, Scott? The flight wasn't full, or was P.E. full? Don't you like the outside entertainment (better than any ICE screen)? Norwegian certainly needs to thrive. Great report, you never fail to entertain and provide a great report.
If Norse flew to more places around the USA, I’d be more interested to try them. Chicago would be great and a far easier connection for a lot of us (myself included) in the Midwest. I think they’d get some more people willing to try them out if they were in more areas.
I know planes are expensive. But it would help get eyes on their product.
I'm not sure what time of year you filmed this, but I do remember an interview with the Norse Atlantic CEO who mentioned that the main mistake that Norwegian made was not accounting for load-factor differentials between peak and off-peak seasons, which has been a huge part of their strategy with NA.
So I'm going to take a guess that you filmed this during an off-peak season for transatlantic travel, and that this low load factor was probably planned for.
Nice work. Having finished your movie, your ‘only complaint’ was that there were still 4hrs of the flight left. I don’t think any customer service department could change that. Cryogenic suspension perhaps!😅😅
Hey, at least you got your steps in while at Gatwick, lol. I'm becoming a free agent since I probably won't qualify for Asiana Diamond this year, no more Star Aliiance Gold :( . The premium economy seats and experience on Norse-wegian look great. I'd consider it. Though yes, it would be interesting to see Premium Economy full and compare it with what you had. I love that Norse, JetBlue, and others are willing to step into the Trans-Atlantic space, the better, for us not just in price, but hopefully quality too. Thanks for sharing.
You’re very welcome! Yeah, I suspect that one of the reasons why Norse is struggling so much is that most travelers are stuck in one or two major airline alliances. It’s hard to justify flying long-haul and not getting valuable status points on a “real” airline for it. And yes - I’d love to try this again on a full flight just to see if the experience is any different. My economy Norwegian Air flight from London to Los Angeles in 2019 was completely full and it was pretty nice actually.
Yes Norse is doing better with New York than certain other US destinations. From LGW flight schedules have been reduced to certain other US points while BOS and IAD have been axed. Norse's foray to the Caribbean has failed (even for the limited schedules planned for winter 2024/5. Maybe CPT will prove to be a success.
Wow, I didn’t even realize the situation was that dire. I’m shocked that they are struggling to be profitable (because they offer a great onboard product IMHO).
Haha, you are so much like your viewers, San. Glad you liked iit after all.
I did! 😄
You have no Priority Pass to use one of the three lounges at GTW South?
I let my priority pass membership expire a little while back - but it definitely would’ve come in handy here.
Great
What was your airfare and do they have any wifi (paid or free)? I can confirm that flying premier economy via Cathay or Singapore Airlines is much better..tks
No WiFi (or at least it wasn’t available on my flight). I paid $900 for this - which is way high but it was a fairly last-minute purchase. And oh yeah - I would definitely choose Singapore Airlines or Cathay Pacific over this!
How picky/strict were they with carry on and personal item?
They didn’t seem all that strict to me. It was basically a free-for-all.
Those triangle hash browns are so common in the UK weird! ETA: that airplane food looks grim though. As you may know, some carriers serve PE coach food while others do business.
Norse Atlantic is really not bad, I flew with them last year from JFK to Berlin and if they run a special fare, the price is unbeatable for Premium Economy. But I recognized a few differences between our flights, is there a difference between Norse Atlantic and Norse Atlantic UK? I had a redeye-flight with them and haven’t got amenities and a blanket 🧐 Or perhaps they‘ve improved their service 😁
There probably are a lot of differences. I remember Norwegian being broken up into many different subsidiaries (offering different onboard experiences) and it was really confusing to keep track of it all. Sounds like the same situation…
@@sanspotter Yeah that’s possible, if I compare both flights, you got a lot more amenities, I hope they offer them on all flights now 😁
As a frequent flyer, who has flown from most of the UKs major airports. I find your criticism of Gatwick to be ridiculous. It's by far one of the best airports in the UK, and the amenities are fantastic. If you're departing from South terminal, arriving ahead of schedule. Then catching the monorail to the North terminal is advised, the North is far better equipped.
How much did it cost?
I just took a Norse premium flight. It was amazing. Never again in cattle class.
There are plenty of PAYG lounges at Gatwick. Try the Clubrooms next time; they are under-reviewed.
Good report. You were flying with Norse's UK subsidiary, which will be flying down to Cape Town soon.
I considered popping in for a look, but they didn’t look all that great from the outside. Maybe next time. Hope they do well in Cape Town!
How good was the recline in economy?
Not horrible. Pretty much the same as what what you would get on other airlines.
Looks like a good plane and I think the Premium Economy wouldn’t be a bad option provide the seat isn’t rock hard.
I wonder if the poor load factor was something to do with the obsession with Heathrow some have?
It was also mid January when I took this flight, which is the low season for leisure travel between London and New York. I’m hoping that things are starting to pick up by now…
if you can't entertain yourself at Gatwick with all the shop restaurants etc then u have some issues ! you could of booked a lounge
I do like competition in the airline industry. Better fares and hopefully a better experience.
Definitely! 👍🏻
Hey Scott. When ya coming back through Detroit?
Maybe sometime this fall. I’m not sure yet…
Same hardware as Scoot, way different experience for Norse.
Anyway, I want to know about the fare, as the economy fare of this flight usually takes ~$200.
I paid $900 (only because it was a last minute purchase - my fault) but I’ve seen fares a lot cheaper than that. Now I want to try Scoot!
Norse DOES sell access to a lounge in Gatwick but NOT in JFK. It is part of their package of add ons.
Good to know! I don’t recall seeing that option when I booked the flight, but it sounds like I missed it.
@@sanspotter It is in the add on menu after you have selected your seat. If memory serves me correct.
How much $$ was this?
I paid $900 for this (which was only because I purchased last minute). You can typically it get it for a lot cheaper than that.
I’ve hopped the pond 10 times in the last 2 years. I’m your standard, always-economy, un-tied-to-an-alliance traveller, and never has Norse been the cheapest option for me. I always see them in results, but Delta/Virgin/JetBlue is always cheaper than Norse for me.
I’m actually surprised that JetBlue would be cheaper. I haven’t been able to find a decent price yet on some of the trips I’ve tried to put together…
Good to see you back, Scott! Hate to break it to you, but Gatwick isn't London. It isn't even in an adjacent county! 😂😂
Well, at least it’s closer to London than Stansted airport is. 😆
Last week I did the NYC-London flight with Norse, and hey, it wasn't that bad! Only the check in at the airport is horrible, there is no online check available, but the plane was good, legroom wasn't bad, the cabin crew were good, can't complain about Norse besides the mandatory check in at the airport and of course i paid extra for my carry on, obviously they charged me like 85$ dollars for my carry on, but besides from that, can't complain! Oh yeah, obviously you've got to pay for the food, I just had a great burger at JFK for 15$ and I was okay for the 6 hours flight, I slept half of the flight, so I decided not to pay the 30$ for the food, totally worth it to eat that great burger at JFK. And Gatwick airport... well, I didn't like that airport, I had a 4 hour layover at Gatwick then I flew to Madrid, horrible airport in my opinion, difficult to find seats to wait, but of course better than Luton or Stansted!
Premium might be worth it but economy for me was hell.
I highly recommend premium class. 😆
Did you take the blanket?
How much was the ticket?
I paid way too much for this ($900 because it was a fairly last minute purchase). You can get it far cheaper.
Cost of ticket?
$900 (only because it was a last minute purchase). You can get it for far cheaper than that.
I tried to fly Norse March 31 from IAD to LGW but they cancelled the flight.
Oof! Hopefully it wasn’t a last-minute cancellation and you had time to make other plans.
This is why I just pay for a lounge at Gatwick (if I have plenty of time)
Why no mention of the price paid for the ticket?
I flew from jfk-lgw in premium class 2022. $381. Will do it again.
That’s a really good price!
I remember the old version. Both flights were the worst I ever had. We went from Oakland to Denmark. We left eight hours late. My seat was broken, and I cut my ankle when boarding. The seat back would not sit upright, so I sat on the edge of my seat the whole flight. The flight attendants were so unpleasant it was shocking. Our return flight was to be the reverse landing in Oakland. They changed us to a flight landing in San Francisco, which, of course, would not let us transfer to our flight home. So we called telling them we wanted what we paid for and then told them we wanted the seats we paid for. They said ok and gave no explanation as to why they switched us to a different airport. When we got to the airport, we were told we had different seats. We were delegated to the center seats, putting us next to some random guy who was ill, and again, I got another broken seat. I tried for months to get some kind of compensation but to no avail. I would not chance it again, so as far as I am concerned, they can go out of business. I am glad you had a fairly decent flight.
Wow, sounds like a very bad experience. I will admit that the flight attendants on this particular flight seemed cold and disinterested as well - but everything else was great. Hopefully you’ll reconsider and give them another chance someday!
How's food?
Oh come on Scott. You fishing for compliments Scott guy!. Nerdy reports!!!!!! Your Vids are First class! For how long do I watch them.? 8 years, nine? can`t remember.
I always feel so guilty when it comes to my opinion about inflight service.
Scott it doesn`t look good. The cutlery!!!!! That is so much better on Air France.
I do agree legroom pristine! Really. Simply the best for PremEco!
I heard that they have difficulties to survive. Rumours, gossip??? Maybe.
They are cutting down on routes out of the U.K. That is a fact.
Let`s hope there is future for them.
Thnx!
I stand by the nerdy comment. 😄 Also, Norse is classified as a low-cost carrier, so I’m going to cut them some slack on the food (and the utensils). It was a lot more than I was expecting!
Norwegian went bust? When?
Was really hoping Norse would fly to Europe from ONT.
I'm the guy the noticed he was wearing Xero shoes.
Huh, Finn's won't have to learn a new nickname. We often called Norwegian "Norski". Works even better for Norse 😅
Sounds like they knew what they were doing 😄
Seriously, I’ve flown twice this year in Delta “First class” and my seat wasn’t as nice as the Premium Economy seat you had on this flight!
Totally agree! US domestic first class isn’t anywhere near as good as this.
Maybe they should consider flying from Manchester or something, we have a real lack of transatlantic flights in the north these days, used to be daily flights to New York, Toronto and Vancouver...now it's basically just Orlando.
Wow! I haven’t been paying attention to Manchester traffic recently, but I’m surprised that so many routes have been cut. Maybe they should give it a try.
Bring back Flyr Airlines using Airbus Aircrafts.
That’s an airline I’ve never heard of! I looked it up just now and it seems like it was a pretty neat operation. I agree - bring them back!
I'm glad you had a good flight, but any airline flying to New York would have to pay me to be on board. Can't stand the place.
It’s not that bad! At the very least, you can stay at the TWA hotel and not even have to venture into the city. 😆
@@sanspotter Point conceded 🙂
I prefer Norwegian name & livery to the ‘Norse’ one🤣
Good. They should consider flying to Bangkok, Thailand🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭 & Singapore 😂😂😂😎😎😎😎😎😎✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬
Definitely! I’d love to see them launch some routes to Asia. 🤞🏻
I think that Norse should have used the Airbus a321 NEO planes instead of the Boeing 787 9 aircraft. Cheaper to operate. Maybe Norse can lease their Boeing 787’s to other airlines since Boeing is having production problems.
That sounds like a really good idea actually. Perhaps it’s in their long-term plans…
