  • The great Mughal Emperor Jalal ud-Din Muhammad Akbar died in 1605. He left behind a fairly secure empire that could largely run on its own without much intervention from the sovereign. This was a very different empire than the one Akbar himself had inherited from his father, Humayun. Since its founding in 1526, the Mughal Empire hadn’t been on solid ground until Akbar restructured it. With Akbar’s death, his son Salim ascended to the throne with the title of Jahangir.
