Great review and good points on the smaller Panerai still offering a lot of quality and presence. I own this exact reference and it wears very large, much bigger than some of my 41mm pieces. To me, maintaining the bold essence of Panerai is relative to your wrist size, overall height and weight, and of course your taste. A 44mm might be great for tall or beefy guy, but it’s not going to work for someone on the other end of the spectrum. This 40mm size is more proportional to the smaller individual, while still looking big and bold on that person. This is why I don’t understand why purists whine about the smaller sizes. If it doesn’t work for them, they should just get the bigger one and forget about what other people are buying.
Very nice find. Did you have a chance to try the 42mm? They would have similar movements P9xxx as the 44, many have the sandwich dials, and frequently with the exhibition case back. I am curious because I also have similar wrist size.
It still looks 44mm next to the 40mm tissot because of the case shape and thickness. This smaller model is still too big for my taste but i lke the panerai design.
There’s nothing wrong on diversifying the models and offering several options of case diameters and style. What enthusiasts have been questioning is the price policy adopted by Panerai. Panerai has been deliberately reducing the quality of their products and increasing the retail price of their products. As we were naive. (1) they simplified several calibers; (2) they offer an awful cardboard box instead of the beautiful wooden box; (3) they don’t certify any caliber on COSC anymore; (4) no sapphire case back with decorated movements. I am so sorry that Pontrue is destroying the brand. In the future, Panerai will have the same reputation as Hublot and lose all the respect from watch enthusiats. Their strategy did not work as Panerai lost positions in the revenue ranking of Swiss luxury watch brands for three consecutive years. I.e., they are making less money by being dishonest with their consumer base.
Nice watch but ..5K used? I'd take a new Nivada Depthmaster for 1/5 of the price. Just as charming even if it's not perfect (but neither is the Panerai).
@@nikolaikrustev1159 The same could be said with many high end brands. A Rolex Sub is more expensive than a Depthmaster and its only a third as water resistant.
@@TimeAndCrown Objectively the Sub is probably better value than either (few are likely to care for WR over 200). I am talking about intangibles - Panerai trades on looks and charm far more than specs (some recent Panerai releases have been frankly embarrassing spec-wise) and in that regard the Depthmaster is just about equal, at least to me.
My wife has a 38mm luminor due and she loves it.
Panerai is the most bad ass watch in the world. Love it.

@@typebflieger Great points. I wonder just like you why it means so much to some people what size a watch is.
Dang; love that one! Now I want one...
Sorry 😁
Any Panarai works for me! Yours is a beauty!
I’ve generally seen Panarei v come on leather straps…curious if the Italian navy dived with them in leather?
Most watches during the war had leather straps including nearly all diving watches to.
I believe k the bigger Panerai's (44mm) makes the Luminor design flourish. Just like a smaller Tank is better for that specific watch.
Very nice find.

@@KC-bv9kf I only had the chance to try a 44 mm and also a 45 mm Radiomir. They are too big for my taste. I would like to try a 42 mm Radiomir.

Yes exactly. Even a 40 mm Panerai wears much bigger than most other 40 mm divewatches.
There’s no wrong way to Panerai 👍👍👍👍👍👍😘😘

@@marcosdoyter7460 The endless limited editions dosnt help either. I love Panerai for the history and unique design but they are pushing it.

Nice piece but too thick for most.
Panerai is great no matter what size. Gg
@@oliver1965 That is the truth!!!
Nothing against Panerai but I've not seen one that really captures my attention, kind of like Rolex.
Panerai is better than wanker watches like Rolex and royal oak.
#amzwatch 's watch really surprises me!
