    Jordan Peterson was talking about dominance hierarchies and rat's play. The big rat (that could win every match) would let the small rat win about 1/3 or 1/4 of the time, so that the smaller rat wouldn't quit playing. That's how often you should "let" your kids win maybe. Enough so they think they might have a chance, but not so much they lose respect for you.

    Ulcerative colitis is a bear. It beats you down physically and mentally. As a firefighter and athlete I dealt with it for years without it going into remission and ended up having the same 2 part j pouch surgery. Greg, after dealing with that disease and fighting through it, then coming back and succeeding at your craft shows tremendous resilience. It’s great seeing other people who have come back after that surgery and again are not necessarily living at 100% but don’t let it prevent them from living their best life. My surgery was 14 years ago and am so appreciative for every day thatI don’t feel as bad as I know it can get. Now I’m about 10 months into my jiu jitsu experience and loving the guys that I train with even though many are half my age. It’s one of the most humbling and rewarding experiences I’ve been through. Best of luck.

    I been in martial arts for 22 years. I finally get to do BJJ, which I tried to learn on my own when running my own place. Everyone quits all martial arts, i think it just takes that one person that loves it.

    Listening to this group, and having just started BJJ, are people concerned with the belts? I'm here to learn and rather have the knowledge than the acknowledgment. To relate to the corporate world, it's nice to have a title, but I'm focused more on what value my team adds to the company and our customers. Am I way off base?

    • @Michael-pc7bb

      Expectation is a driver on why or when people quit I would think. Jus started myself though I think age and or maturity WHEN we start makes a difference. I am 49 and just starting so my ego is long gone LOL! My main goal is to learn and also to be part of a great community so I don't see that fading someday when or IF I got a blue belt.

    What happened to y'alls hair?

    • @darcyboyd8014
      @darcyboyd8014 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      a) Hereditary b) Medical conditions and Medication c) Hormones d) Radiation therapy to the head. e) A very stressful event.
      Number of things can lead to hair loss, for me it'd make sense for Jocko a combat veteran who would have more than likely been through a tonne of stressful experiences not to mention some of the other things like medication, potentially and especially in the battlefield could have led to this. hope that answers your question and ya weren't just trying to be an ass. If so probably wrong place.
