    LEGO is one of the most best-selling toys in the world. From the days of the Interlocking Binding Brick, to the release of the LEGO System of Play, up to the modern LEGO that we all know and love, LEGO inspired many children and adults alike to let their imagination roam.
    Our reviews show you the good, the bad and the ugly of both modern and old sets, in a way unlike any other LEGO reviewer, clear of bias and sponsorship, in an entertaining and honest way.

      Thanks a lot! It was quite the undertaking, I tried as best as I could to follow the format while at the same time adding my own elements. Hardest part was to find the font used on the box art!

    They need to bring this back so bad! I loved the LEGO Factory train, such a great idea to have 20-30 different builds in the one set.

    • @EmersonacReviews

      Great set, shame it has such a sad story behind it. If you check the old Lugnet forums, there were talks of splitting the Trains theme into 2 separate subthemes in 2006: Hobby Trains (9v continuing with more sets like that one) and Play Trains (RC), and depending on how well the Factory train performs, it would be greenlit or not.
      It ended up being greenlit but right about then the steel crimping machines for the 9v track assembly line broke, and it was deemed too costly to repair them. So 9v was canned. Big shame. We really need more of the Factory-style train sets with more builds!

    the spike-o-meter is a really funny spin on the slug-o-meter and i wouldn't be bothered seeing it in an actual rr slugger video about trains

    I give this video three slugs... err spikes 😁. Not sure why I didn't see the @ mention in my notifications (oddly enough it was recommended to me on my other TH-cam account 🤷‍♂). Great job on the video! I think we all wish Lego would release sets like this again. I had a blast piecing together the sets from the MOT series. By the end of it I have 4 locomotives, large and small locomotives with and without tenders, all in different colors. And of course, LOTS of wagons 😅

    Nice, very nice.
    A few fun facts though.
    One, it is very easy to turn the hopper wagon from tan & blue to tan & red, and in fact, I use a tan & red MOT Hopper Wagon as a grain hopper behind my ten wheeler Constitution.
    Two, surprisingly, the five colors of Lego My Own Train locomotive seem to resemble the original colors of the Lego Bionicle Toa Mata, with the exception of red for Toa Tahu. This is mostly like because the original Olton Hall, set 4708, was released around the same time, and thus constituted the red steam engine in TLG’s catalog.
    Third, by all accounts, due to the implied motor placement positions, the large MOT engines are Mallets, a 0-4-4-0 wheel arrangement, and the small engines are 0-4-0 Four Coupled engines.
    And lastly, for those who prefer their engines of sodorian origins, (unlike me), the MOT Large Train Engine with Tender and the MOT Small Train Engine without Tender could easily represent NWR Engines 1, 3, 4, & 6. Quite sad I know, hence why I won’t use those colors.
    And for those who are asking, I personally own and have assembled a trio of MOT Steam Locomotives, those being the Large Train Engine with Tender in Black, a Large Train Engine without Tender in old Dark Grey, and a Small Train Engine without Tender in old Brown. The latter two serving as heavy and light switchers respectively.
    Enjoy. Rockatoa, Brickticks out!

      Thanks for the insights!
      The hopper wagon is pretty much customizable in any color you can think of, it's made out of very common parts. Also the reason why it's so cheap to part out.
      Interesting point with the colors, it's weird to see Lego not put red as a color choice. That might also have to do with the release of the Santa Fe locomotive around the same time as MOT, alongside Olton Hall.
      Glad you enjoyed the vid.

    5:17 I always found the tiles on this one interesting. the tiles aren't exclusive to only this set, as the 1x4 is used for radar dishes on boat sets, but the 1x6 is from a Town Race set (Stunt Rally PC) where they were built on a ramp. That explains the dirt marks on the Octan logo.

    • @EmersonacReviews
      @EmersonacReviews  5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I checked it after I made the video and yes that's right! For some reason I thought the ones from the Race set was the clean version without dirt marks. Or maybe I saw a modified image of it, I'm not sure.
      I don't mind it as that means there's a larger pool of these parts to pull from if someone wants to piece the set together. Always a win.

    My Own Train was alwasy a fascinating series to me, ever since it debuted in my childhood. However, my history with LEGO trains would only truly take hold in my adulthood and by then, I wouldn't have enough space to accommodate trains of this purpose. My current layout is an oval that circles around a residential area, so a passenger train suits best for public transportation. It's far too difficult to add in a railyard or an industrial outlet that would benefit trains and cars like these. But it is good to have in my pocket for how well these sets fare on the aftermarket just in case I do come in contact with them.
    As for my picks, I would enjoy the Locomotives of My Own Train, as they don't require many modern pieces to still have a great design. Even if it was one of the short, tender-less models. Most likely I would choose a black or green train, as green is my favorite color. The hoppers would be something I'd consider building up as recommended, maybe the log cars too for larger transports. But I would steer clear of the passenger car since I already own two copies of 60197 to snake around on its own, 1 and a half copies of 4561, and 1 copy of 4559. And yes, I have enough 9V track and generative power to operate them, but I can only set one at a time on a single-loop track.

    • @EmersonacReviews
      @EmersonacReviews  5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I have a bit of a layout too (you probably saw clips of it on Insta) and trying to integrate a dedicated industrial area for these wagons is a pain. Due to the nature of the switches it's guaranteed to take up at least a 32x64 stud area (not counting side builds). I'm considering making a small 48-wide switching layout with some sets of points, small wagons and a couple industrial sidings for switching puzzles (there's some great HO scale designs out there that you can take inspiration from) and scrapping the train layout from the city plans altogether.
      The locomotives are pretty great, would have liked to see a diesel loco design too, steamers get a bit boring sometimes. And yes, I also recommend steering clear of the passenger wagon if you already have a large collection, it pairs up well with the steamer but that's about it.

    4:39 I thought about simple mods to reinforce the bars, but it's tricky since a 1x2 modified plate with vertical clip has yet to exist. the next best solution would be a 1x2 jumper topped with a 1x1 plate with clip, but it would disrupt the steady flow across the bed.

    • @EmersonacReviews
      @EmersonacReviews  5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, it's a shame we don't have a 1x2 vertical clip plate yet (considering we *do* have a horizontal version). Best thing to do here is a rebuild and use the 1x1 versions (and change the spacing between bars)

    Great Video!
    Though I would like to add that the printed tiles on the tanker waggon arent exklusive, I think. The Octan Logos also appeared in a race set from 2000 and the other prints were also included in a few sets like Divers and Space stuff as far as I'm aware :)

    Amazing video on such a nostalgic part of my childhood! My parents gifted me the locomotive and subseqeunt wagons whenever I achieved a goal when I was a little kid. As a result I've got the whole train, which I now proudly display next to my other lego trains. You've got a new subscriber.

    It pains me that Lego doesn't sell Locomotives and wagons separately anymore.
    Those huge sets that cost over 100 bucks are such a big barrier to entry for potential new lego train fans.
    I don't expect them to sell THIS many different sets these days, but at least one classic steam engine on its own and maybe 2 different wagons on their own?
    Maybe then trains can sell well enough again that they put more faith in the theme.
    My own train was the last time you could buy a small tank engine on its own.
    That's a crime!
    They constantly make waves of new car sets, but no small locomotives in decades?
    It's not fair! 😫

    • @EmersonacReviews

    • @ShyGuyXXL
      @ShyGuyXXL 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EmersonacReviews It wouldn't even be that hard to sell the wagons from big sets individually. They already divide the sets into bags and each wagon is a bag.
      So why not just sell some of those bags on their own?
      They're already being made, so just make some more and put them aside for people to order online.
