a big problem with Homeless people is that most of them are Drgu addicts, when you get Shelters you need to follow rules, one rule is that you cannot do drugs there... so many homeless people get trown out or dont go there to begin with...

If there’s a law like that it applies to everyone but I suppose it’s not easy for them to go to court or find representation. The whole concept of a right to shelter isn’t feasible, it’s NYC there’s only so much space and way too many people who want to live there. This law is from a time when you probably got shot if you wandered into the wrong neighborhood, now everyone wants to live there. This right to shelter is a nice idea but is it really compassionate when you can’t deliver on such a promise?

How do you propose we do that exactly when we already are running huge national deficits , the average American is struggling to make ends meet, our national infrastructure is horrible/degrading and we are in need of things like high speed rail, and we have more of our own homeless than ever before??
WE already pay for 30% of Americans to be on some form of welfare as well. OH!! And I forgot to mention that we have a TON of baby boomers about to retire that are going to make social security, Medicare, and Medicaid difficult to fund too. Even when these migrants do get jobs (which they often don't and remain on welfare largely), they tend to be low wage jobs which means that they get welfare and other supplemental benefits...basically the cost to provide healthcare and provide schooling for their kids costs more to the tax payer than the money they bring in with their labor. Also, we are going to a more automated economy and are losing low skill jobs every day to tech. We don't need a lot of low skill workers in our current economy.

I recall a New Yorker around 2-3 years ago telling me we should let everyone cross into America and live here if they wanted to. I told him that border cities are struggling to manage the flow of people coming in and we can't take them all. The New Yorker told me "That's what we send them money for, so they can do it." That's how I believe a lot of the border towns and states view the liberal sanctuary cities up north. Bleeding hearts throwing money at a problem, but crumble when asked to help physically shoulder the burden others have been having to carry for years. Willing to let everyone in...so long as it's not THEIR neighborhood that has to deal with it.

I live in the Netherlands, and this has been a notorious problem for us for so, so many years. We are a super small country, yet seem to have to bend over backwards to accomodate anyone who comes here (illegally) and provide them everything. They are getting expensive healthcare, food, a warm place to stay (While many dutch citizens can't afford their energy bill) and are given priority on housing, while some dutch citizens have to wait for 15+years to ever have a chance at a house. All the others are expensive and the market is too competitive because there are too many people crammed on this small space on earth.
It's scary to see this phenomenon happening worldwide, and I wonder where we'll be in 10 years. It looks like something irreversible has been set in motion and at one point, something will snap.

This is absolute insanity. I myself am an immigrant who came 25 years ago on a student visa, finished college, went through a graduate school and afterwards worked for 5 years on H1B visa, and then got my green card. In every step I had to re-apply for legal status extension and pay my dues. To get a green card based on my successful scientific career, I spent about $14K between immigration lawyer and application fees. Now illegals come here, claim asylum and get 4-5 years working permit within weeks (e.g. I know few from Venezuela who came here illegally through MX and they all got 4 or 5 years working permit. WTF? My co-worker from Europe, Ph.D. educated is working on a H1B visa and his wife, who is has a master in finances, can't get any legal status that would allow her to work while those who broke the law and came here illegally get working permits and all documents. This mess is purely created by Democrats not because they like immigrants, but because they see more votes down the road from those who will depend on government handouts.

_US added 216,000 jobs in December, blowing past expectations_ January 5, 2024 This news article was published by _THE HILL._ The U.S. added 216,000 jobs and the unemployment rate held steady at 3.7 percent in December, according to data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, closing the books on a year of remarkable economic resilience.
The jobs report bookends a surprisingly strong year that largely defied earlier fears that interest rate hikes intended to bring down inflation would trigger a recession and drive more people out of work.
The December jobs gain beat expectations from economists, who projected the U.S. to add roughly 170,000 jobs last month, according to consensus estimates.
December also extended the longest stretch the unemployment rate has been below 4 percent since the mid-1960s.
Private sector earnings were also up 0.4 percent, according to the report. The average hourly wage has increased 4.1 percent over the past year, outstripping inflation, which clocked in at 3.1 percent in November.
Even so, there were significant downward revisions of past jobs gains. November’s initially reported gain of 150,000 was revised down to 105,000, and an October gain of 199,000 jobs was revised down to 173,000.
“Overall, solid headline numbers, but some of the dynamics under the hood are more worrying,” Martha Gimbel, a research scholar at Yale Law School who recently left the White House Council of Economic Advisers, wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. She pointed to the downward revisions as part of this.
The first jobs report of 2024 comes as President Biden attempts to sway public opinion on the economy with less than a year to make this pitch for another term. Despite the strength of the labor market, Biden has struggled to sell voters on the his handling of the economy after two years of high inflation.
But the Biden camp will no doubt be pleased with the continued resiliency of the labor market in the face of high interest rates.
“With a total of 2.7 million new jobs created, 2023 was a year that beat economic expectations by every metric,” House Budget Committee ranking member Brendan Boyle (D-Pa.) said.
“Wages and consumer confidence are up, the economy is growing, and in 2024, President Biden and Democrats will keep working to lower costs and get working families more breathing room.”
While the latest jobs numbers could help boost President Biden’s economic pitch as he heads into the 2024 reelection, they may give the Federal Reserve pause as it considers when and how to cut interest rates.
“Coming off an extremely strong 2022, last year’s labor market was very solid overall with continued employment advances across the board. The strength of the labor market has helped stave off the recession that was anticipated by most economists. Because of today’s strong jobs number, the Fed cut in March now seems less likely,” said Eric Merlis, managing director and co-head of global markets at Citizens.

You just perfectly defined the liberal mindset. "Tax the rich! But only those richer than me.." "Open borders! As long as it doesn't have an impact on me.." etc. There was an interesting study from the UK where they studied people's attitudes towards immigrants. The low-education group was the most negative as the immigrants often took their jobs and high-education group was the most supportive since they considered themselves to be so educated that the immigrants couldn't do their jobs. But as more and more people with an immigrant background got an education and entered these high-education jobs, so did the attitudes of these workers become more negative. People are "tolerant" and "open-minded" as long as immigrants do not directly threaten their lifestyle.

I find this very poetic. Democratic states always have a lot to say about border states and their "racist" policies. Giving them just a taste of what the border states have to deal with, and they are already overwhelmed trying everything they can to limit immigration.
