I live in Texas and some of these illegals were complaining AT THE BORDER about their free meals! They called them "pig slop" and threw them away.
And that's because the company already got paid for the food and because the illegals bitched about it was cold or smelled funny - because it's not their usual type of food I imagine - the company doesn't have to give it to anyone else because their contract doesn't say they have to! It's expired, it's poisonous; had you owned a supermarket and depended on the profit could you afford to do dump you profitable goods a day before it expires?! My Wife used to work for a company that made them destroy merchandise and throw it away when new merchandise came in. I'm talking clothes, shoes, household items, electronics, food, you name it. When new items arrived, they pulled off the shelves the old items and would take it out to the dumpster and a guard would make sure they destroyed it. Why not donate it, call the salvation army and give it to them, CALL SOMEONE!.
Because people would stop buying the products and wait til it's thrown away. When I worked for McDonalds years ago, I asked the GM the exact same question and she told me that's why we didn't just give away extra food like that.
Throwing away food at McDonalds has nothing to do with not wanting people to be able to get it free. It has to do with regulations not allowing them to serve food after a time limit is passed. They are not legally allowed to donate it.
I'll bet there are a lot of people (politicians & businessmen) receiving one hell of a kickback from that uncontested 'contract.'

I get my food from a food bank. Most times we don't get to choose what we pick up. Always grateful for what is received. It's not the healthiest or the most appetizing. Occasionally the produce is bruised or dwindling past ripeness.... but it's food. It gets eaten. I will never turn it away as if I am entitled to gourmet meals. Pasta, rice, beans, canned food can be stretched and used creatively. These migrants should have nothing to complain about.

I live next door to the largest men's migrant center in NYC. All 2000- 4000 men line up for food and receive it, then eat a few bites and throw the trays and water bottles on the ground. The filth level is INSANE. The food I see on the ground in front of my building looks decent. One problem is that other groups come in and donate better-tasting food that is appropriate to the specific migrant community (AKA - Hallal, Nigerian, Venezuelan, etc.), and the migrants pitch the NYC food in favor of the food they are used to. If I could post a photo, I would. My dog is going to have to start wearing boots because there is so much food on the ground and the rat infestations are so bad I am considering leaving the city.
Yet the homeless citizens have no problem eating from the trash and will be grateful for what they get.
Everyone should leave NY, its a sh*thole. Let the asylum seekers have it, but they have to take care of themselves. They sound like a bunch of spoiled children anyway.

My little community is rural and we were told our seniors couldn't get delivery even when townsfolk offered to pick it up and distribute them. Yet somehow the illegals are eating.
I used to work at a facility for immigrant families, they would do the same there as well. Their excuse was that it tasted different or the seasoning was too much. It's understandable but not anything your body is not able to handle. It was truly disappointing how many were ungrateful and felt entitled to better resources.
Next time I go to another country I'm going to complain that the food tastes different.

Oh, my God! I have a single female 63 years old, working overtime, paying my own way out of my own home, and I am very grateful to God! But I have needed help not for very long, and I even went to see about getting some type of supplement just to tide me over and guess what I make $70 per month too much for any kind of food assistance or heating assistance! I have to pay my own insurance and again if I make $50 too much then they hike up the premiums. I paid into the system all my entire life and to watch these abusive selfish entitled people be so wasteful is absolutely appalling to me! I don’t have the luxury of having food to throw out. I save everything as much as I can, and this makes me angrier and angrier that this is going on the abuse, and the waste in this country and with this administration is doing is the most horrific thing I’ve ever seen in my entire lifetime!

@@terrimoore8962 I can only relate to your anger. For me, food can be thrown away only if its expired. This is why I am buying in small amounts and more frequent (live in Switzerland where it is easy), but general throwing away food that is still fresh is horrible.
This food should be donated to food banks or directly to American taxpayers who are struggling. For me those migrants are not poor and desperate but entitled. Those hungry will be grateful if given fresh food.
I saw a woman commenting about how they are just coming here looking for help because they can’t make it in their home countries, and I asked her why she didn’t choose a few families and pay all their bills for them until they get back on their feet. She said, “I can’t afford to pay bills for several other families.” I said, “Neither can the rest of us.”
Do I feel bad for the “asylum seekers”? Yes. But I also acknowledge that the taxpayers here are largely struggling themselves. We can’t keep sending out billions to help other countries, accepting millions of people here illegally each year, and hope to stop the crumbling of our own infrastructure and economy. Citizens first.

I remember working on a federal government project where industry kept telling the government officials that it would be millions cheaper to purchase an existing commercial solution instead of building one from scratch. After two years and $250M wasted, the feds finally took industry advice.

My mom 89 years receives $589 a month, I applied for government assistance just to pay for someone to come and give her a shower once a week because my health didn’t allow me to do it anymore. The draining process took 9 months and still at the end was denied for only $20 a week, but they waste thousands and millions of dollars in the trash

You should check out the Redbury Hotel in Manhattan on 30th St. between Madison and Park Ave. I'm a resident at this hotel, and with only a day's notice, we received a letter stating that migrants are going to be housed in the building! I see tons of food being thrown out on a daily basis, which is a damn shame given the millions of food-insecure people living in the five boroughs!

$11 per meal is insane. there's no way those meals cost more than a buck or two to make when made in that volume bulk. A no-bid contract is bound to be a disaster and a massive waste of money. Agree with the point you made here, even Factor would've been a much better contender for a contract if the city is willing to pay that outrageous price per meal.
I’ve eaten the same food out of a homeless shelter in Vermont. It’s fine, people just have a tendency to turn their noses up at institutional food because they have an anti authority viewpoint.
From what I heard the same food is also used for prisons in the northeast.
They must make a good profit because you’re right, at an institutional level the food is only a couple bucks worth of food. But they do have to refrigerate it, prepare and probably truck it all over New England.
That company was probably the only one ready at a moments notice to feed those people when the situation arose. Everyone is is Monday morning quarterback on this issue.

I stopped donating to ALL charities. The only charities i give food to is animal local charities and my regular vet i go to for years. They always take in homeless pets people dump on the streets and let them stay in the clinic.

I've volunteered at a food pantry many times. The provided food was most definitely not wasted and was absolutely appreciated by those that the food was prepared for. Imagine the level of brazen entitlement to turn away good food and the level of fraud, waste and abuse to allow food resources to go to waste like this.

I grew up without food. I didn’t know when or where my next meal was coming from. My mother did her best growing up in the projects and barely surviving. I depend on school lunches to hold me over until the next day. I would go to bed crying because my stomach was in pain. When I started working and was able to afford things ,I couldn’t enjoy a meal because I never had it and I felt I didn’t deserve food. Seeing food being discarded is sad because there are so many American citizens that don’t have the money to buy food or in need of crucial services. My point is this country has a job to put American citizens first and give those financial assistance to those in need this is the reason we vote and it’s disgusting what is happening to our country. DEPORTATION IS THE ONLY WAY!

Facing family financial hard times, I used to get up for school and go to school hungry in the mornings, after little to scarce supper the night before. Disappointed to see that people who’ve paid dues to their communities AND GOVERNMENT don’t get these same services. It’s so frustrating that we can offer help to a complete stranger and neglect our own. $11 each meal? My kid was taking a bologna sandwich a pickle and chips to school for lunch when we had to pay. I packed my own lunch as well for work. 2 boiled eggs crackers and olives if that’s all I had. It’s definitely a better way this can be done.

We got several buses in our upstate NY community, food was brought to them for all meals but they didn't like it, Pizza and wings, Italian food from great places were thrown out, they want what their used to eating..... not American food. Wish I could have the food to feed my kids!!!

People might get stomach issues if they are not used to spicy food but normally, meal prep companies like that do not do extreme flavors. The $11 really resonates with me. That was my budget for food for a week when I was pregnant with my first child. Luckily we overcame our hardships, but I had no help as a US citizen, and would of gladly taken any of those meals frozen or not!
I think its easy to say we would take them vs actually taking the risk of getting food poisoning as a pregnant woman. This food can result in serious health risks and problems and like the woman said her kids would get sick, so clearly they still took them and tried, but how much more would you keep eating rotten food?
