I told my girlfriend that I have a mother with alzsheimers who I pay to take care of "which is the truth", so I do not have extra money to give her or her family members. This put a stop to the begging or asking for money pretty quickly.
It is always good in my opinion to be honest and up front with your situation.

Family money issues can be the worst. My own brother has borrowed thousands from me and never paid me back. In fact, he gets angry if I bring it up. I cut communication with him and will only help him financially if I feel like it, fully knowing I will never get the money back. - WW
Unfortunately, family can be the source of stress sometimes. We feel obligated to help because they are family. I have lost family and friends too because I did not lend them money or they never paid me back what they owed.

My wife and I have a system we don’t borrow money to nobody.
I believe that some of the ex make the wrong decision by getting a woman that lives too far into the providence and the whole family is super poor. That way they have to take care of everybody.
If you get a woman from the city, most of the time they are college educated and their family is also,so they don’t need the foreigners money. They all have jobs and good incomes.

Hi Gino! Sounds like you talk from experience.Very good advice. It’s one of the drawbacks of living there. Unless the expat finds a wife with a good job who can share with the expense which is far and few between.

Do not forget to mention the law which prohibits being alone with an underaged child, who is not related to you - esp. in questionable places, such as a hotel room.

Yeah, any immigrant here that wants to help his wife's family MUST set limits. My wife's family understand that I am not their bank, nor their second source of income. ALL financial assistance comes with stipulations. One of our nieces needed to borrow 100,000 pesos until the money her bf sent cleared the bank. I told her sure, she could borrow it but until she paid me back, no one else would get one pesos from me, including Lola for her meds. She immediately said "never mind, I can wait a day for the money to clear". We live 30 mins or less away from ever one of my wife's family member houses. Never been an issue and we have been married for 10 years (come July 1st). Yeah, foreign sense of humor can and most often is a problem even if the family does not mention it to the foreigner, they will mention it to the Filipina. Luckily no one in my wife's family drinks, nor do we.
Setting limits early is so important. In my experience when drinking alcohol is involved; it always seems not to work out well.
@@dazeltv1351 Yep, went to a few get togethers back in TX with a few Filipina-American couples. Once the drinking started, so did the flirting and stuff. One of the women asked my wife if she could borrow me... My wife cleared the whole room by the time she got through going off. So we dont even go to gatherings anymore. But again, here in the Philippines, no one in her family drinks or clubs... Perfect fit...
Ginno is CORRECT! In Thailand, were I lived for 16 yrs, no problem "IF" one is in a relationship, set respectful & reasonable boundaries right from the get go. It's when we drop our guard ..help a little and that opens the flood gates. I'm sure not cheap, but some take advantage. We have to pick friends with wisdom... yup we can help others but do so where there is mutual love 'n respect. I saw several that drank and were the life of the party... "Good time Charlies" flaunting their money buying drinks for the house, HUGE mistake guys. That's gonna come back to bit you. Choose a circle of good respectful friends, you don't need to impress anyone, be yourself. Slander, be very careful ...some try to "goat" you into confrontations ...just back off and say nut'n. Best to walk away, this isn't America where one can speak yer mind 'n "your opinion" is broadcaste. Be respectful! Ginno offers great advice cause he desires expats and locals to enjoy life and each other. Thanks 'n great video Ginno ....stay warm friend!🥱

kuripot meas also thrifty. expat should have limit or budget to gave to family. you give but at least you have still a lot remain,in case borrowing has no payment.they are overwhelmed by the hospitality, dont be swayed. you end up broke.

What kind of advice do you have for a man and his wife that is planning on retiring there from the US and the wife is not a Philipina nor the husband
I would recommend retiring at two places; Iloilo City or Dumaguete City. Both cities will provide you both with the western comforts that you are used to. Western style housing at a reasonable price. Available food similar to the U.S. Both cities are not over crowded like Manila or Cebu City. Just outside the two cities (less than one hour drive) you have access to nice beaches. I would not recommend the rural provincial life because it is a big change from your current lifestyle. American food also limited. After a year, if you think the city life is too hectic for you, then look for a more provincial lifestyle. If you are looking for a paradise-type feel in retirement; Boracay Island or Panglao Bohol are my recommendations. I spent over a year in Boracay when I first got here; still the best time of my retirement in the Philippines. Both places also provide U.S type food. I often hear from Americans how difficult it is to adjust to the food in the Philippines. Take care my friend.
So, it’s best to not even go to parties or get togethers with your wife.
Dazel and I don’t attend many parties. If we do; we just avoid the people that are drinking alcohol.😁
