Good for you, I guess? I didn't realize I was trying to compete with 1982 you. In fact I didn't realize it was a competition at all. I thought I was just showing how someone today might approach the problem, but I guess this is the internet and there will always be people like you out there telling us about your glory days. If you have video of you explaining it in 1982, then you should definitely upload it to TH-cam so we all can be amazed.
@@YoshimoshiGarage Ignore the typical mechanical "Meatheads" your video series have been a god send. Keep at it! Albeit, still reassembling the Pushbutton A727 on my end XD
my 17 year old son just bought a 1978 D300 dually with 360 and 727 and its going to be the total rebuild project and this video is exactly the info and speed we need to confidently tackle it all considering transmission were always the magical place your not allowed to open. Thank you so much and where do we send you a check!
Excuse me Sir, question: Where did you get that inner lip seal for the piston @ 0:55. All the rebuild kits that i have purchased does not even have the inner piston lip seal. Thanks. Edit: In case somebody was looking, i was able to find the stock part number on the Inner lip seal after some digging. #1942054 It's the only part that was holding me up from rebuilding the transmission. XD
Just a general comment for anyone watching this to rebuild or fix a transmission. On seals that have a lip, the lip always face towards where the apply fluid pressure is.
Hello again sir. I have another question: The rear clutch clearance I managed to get was .032 or so with a wavy snap ring. The clutches CANNOT be manipulated by hand as it can't spin freely. Would that be a problem? I'm getting mixed opinions on this, That the "tight" clearance is not too critical as the clutch is active in all forward gears, and tight is what some people tend to do... It's a 5 clutch setup by the way. Thanks.
I am a bit confused. At about 6:40 you appeared put in 5 new clutches. Then, after it appeared there was not enough gap for the snap ring, you removed one new clutch and added an old clutch (thinner)? After measuring clearance there was no more discussion. Would you really install an old clutch? Could the bottom pressure plate be thinner to allow for the new clutch material. Enjoy watching you!
You can turn the top pressure plate down to remove material for space. You can also use an old clutch if it's still got friction material and hasn't been overheated (these ones were in good condition).
So I just managed to get 6 clutches in the front drum, I've thought about it. But how come the rear clutch doesn't get the same treatment like the front clutch drum? Is putting a machined pressure plate on the rear drum as well to get 5 or 6 clutches not an upgrade to do on A727's? Thoughts?
@@YoshimoshiGarage ok, thanks for the reply. I just assumed there was some sort of "taboo" reason on why not many people are building up the low/reverse drum with more clutches.
Are you freaking kidding? I reasssembeled these units in 1/12 hours back in the day

I watched a lot of your videos, you do a excellent job explaining the workings of the 727
High praise indeed! I hope the 78 club cab my son sold you worked out for the parts you needed.
Thanks for continuing the series! Very well documented and nice and slow

@@YoshimoshiGarage Thanks, I looked at CRT and A&A transmissions. But I didn't see it.
Thank you very much.
is there a video showing how those piston seals go in?
THANKS, REAL CLEAR WHAT I DID IN 1982

You've been using a lot of tuits lately. Is it safe to assume they are round?

The plastic spacer on mine is melted it’s been hot an broke can I leave it out or what should I do
Order a new one

Yep, you can stuff more into the low/reverse drum as well.

do both of the seals on the piston face the same direction?
Ye s, the lips go toward the fluid/pressure side so that more pressure causes them to seal tighter
@@YoshimoshiGarage Ok good. Thanks again very much bro. Could not have done without you. My hands are all cut up now 🤕 But it's done! I think. 🤔.
Mine is about 47/48 where did u get that thicker ring
I generally order all my transmission parts from Cobra Transmission
I don’t have any room to put my snap ring back ?
Just throwing some ideas out, either the piston is not fully seated at the bottom of the drum or you acquired the incorrect clutch thickness.
A HUNDRED TIMES, DUDE!
Your life must suck bad now buddy if you have to go back to 1982 to show what made you "great" LOL
would anything in a valve body cause oil to blow out of the vent hole and slip? Then every now and then no leak or slip.
Thanks
