Tesla has lost its way and is well past a need for a refresh. Tesla feels like yesterday Lucid is tomorrow that you can buy today, but for the price.
Lucid made the Air sedan first for two reasons. Firstly, because sedans do sell less. Lucid opened with a small factory while they were building the adjacent 3+million square foot automated factory next door. The large factory expansion is just now coming online, but two years ago they couldn't have built all the SUVs people would have ordered. Secondly, journalists love sedans. The first Lucid, the 1,111hp Dream Edition was expensive and was packed with every possible option. This was a car for enthusiasts and for the reviewers who did gush about it and give it every possible award. In brief, the Air sedan was built to make people aware of the brand while Lucid was building their SUV factory. I got my Air GT 2 years ago and must disagree about the cars handling. With 21' wheels it does handle like a sports sedan (think BMW M5). Maybe pop up to Poudre canyon, switch TC to reduced in Sprint mode, and give it a shot. I have run that and many other fun roads after driving from my home base in Texas. The Lucid is great on the freeway which makes it easy to get to the fun roads from here.

This is a really nice car, beautifully styled inside and out with outstanding performance and comfort. Being a sedan is not a problem, it's an asset.
I’ve never ridden in a real luxury car much less owned one. I do appreciate the engineering and design that enables such efficiency. I hope those will eventually be incorporated into basic affordable EVs.
Before watching- alright, I'm pretty sure it's going to be the top spot on the Loveland trials, the question is will it match it's EPA number? I'm guessing no, but it will probably have a ton of miles left over. It could probably do it twice more.
6:27 this car is just begging for a hatchback variant. I also think the huge frunk could allow it to have a good convertible option, but that depends on the cost of conversion and the possible take rate. I imagine it would do very well in the UK. Who love convertibles for some reason.
9:29 I think the software is fine, but the build quality is what concerns me because some of the early reports I got really bothered me. things like, door handles not working, system crashes, trim parts falling off, and generally the kind of "screwed together quality" one would expect of a YUGO. I have since stopped getting horror stories, but I haven't gotten much feedback at all. did you guys experience any issues while you had the car?
@@roguedogxI am leasing a 2024 Pure and I find it really well put together. I have only used my iphone as a key. It works well enough. Never locked me out most of the time its close to perfect. Wake up my phone or touch the door handle if its lagging. Build is really nice now. I’ve had it for 6 days
Batteries are very expensive to provide this range. I think Hyundai/Kia are doing it the right way for commuter cars by giving them very fast DC charging speeds. Drive 250-300 miles, plug in for 15 minutes, and you are ready to go another 250 miles or so. As DC fast charging networks expand the need to carry huge expensive (and heavy) batteries will diminish for the average driver.
@@stephenj4937 For sure the batteries are going to be the one of the main reasons why it will take a while for commuter cars to get this combo. I think as battery tech gets better and we can put more juice into a smaller battery, we will see some nice efficiency numbers. I agree that with fast charging centers expanding and getting better it will be great. I know in Ontario, Canada, often I've seen charging stations not being properly maintained, so in some cases there are inoperable chargers.
@@stephenj4937 Lucid is prioritizing efficiency because you can get by with a smaller battery. The Air can do 5 miles per kWh. The mid size will do 6 miles. It's because the packaging minimizes aero drag.
Lucid will introduce its smaller mid-size line of vehicles starting in 2026. Lucid's high efficiency drive units and electronics lets them get more range our of a battery so ultimately they can use fewer batteries to get enough range. Batteries are the most costly part of an EV so using fewer will reduce cost. That's the plan.
I much prefer cars over crossovers. Unfortunately, I'm not in the market for an expensive EV no matter what it is. This would be on my short list of what I would get if I could though.
Guys! Please do the Leaf on the same route. The 40kWh version you have will do it no problem! The regen on the way back down with the e-pedal will put at least 10% back in. I live near Sierra Nevada in Spain with similar mountains and my Leaf does it with no worries 😉 it’s a lot cheaper than the Lucid but nowhere near as sexy but hey!
You guys should do a 1000 mile or so trip with a comparable gas luxury car. Consider convenience, cost to drive etc. For price, this really does seem a good vehicle gas or electric. Would it really be something a person looking for that class of vehicle could cross shop? Maybe even use the least expensive model available & it's gas powered equivalent.
It's freaking amazing then you look at how much it costs 😂😂 I hope the Lucid Gravity will be a gamechanger for them they know how to build amazing cars
This is where tame needs to be to get my attention. Charge times are still holding me back, but we'll get there. That is a beautiful car with a LARGE sticker price. I can't bring myself to get into 6 figures for a vehicle. The World has priced me out. Lol. 😅
Tommy this dash is nice the dash on the Genesis is like just straight and cut off doesn’t flow nice along the top of the dash like the Lucid. I think Genesis should work on the design of the dash . Just saying. I watched both of your reviews back to back.
The problem with this car isn't the shape. It's that even the base version is in the premium price range( the cheapest option now is 85k€ in Germany and 88k€ in Netherlands) . People want highly efficient electric cars. If they offered some basic version in Europe(88kWh battery, 200-250kW motors, 18" wheels) with an end price in the 60k -65k€ range. They could easily triple their global sales here. As the ID7 accounts for nearly 35% of VW's EV sales in some markets this year, BMW is in a similar position with its i4 and i5 models.
There is a big difference between a crossover and an suv. This should have more attention to it. The idea that people are calling a cross over an suv is misleading and will get people stuck
@@Oregonwildman1 It is not offially sold in Finland so theres not any kind service for the car either. Of course I can import it but the closest service centers would be in Norway or Netherlands
The 'test' you could do is to drive away from home until you use up the battery. Ten find a place to charge it. Range isn't important when road tripping. Charging is what creates anxiety for non Tesla potential owners. Let's see your experience on a 600 mile trip. Remember your trip from Florida in the M3.
I make 96k a year and I can't afford this thing. Sales tax and fees all in about $140k for the Lucid. Could buy 3 Tesla 3's. Not sure what the demographics is for this vehicle is but wow.
Brief experiences with an early adopter-grade EV make for great fun. But reliability and quality of service for a Lucid are a big question mark, especially when you're comparing to an established brand like Mercedes.
Roman's comment about Model S being 'austere' is not always correct. My Model S came with the premium interior, and I've had people tell me is the most beautiful luxurious car they've ever sat in. Every material and fit and finish is as good as any other car i've been in. As for the Lucid, Jason Camisa called it 'Tesla 2.0', and I believe that's correct. The lucid is an amazing car.
Air GT Owner, first of all charging range and actual driving range are two different things completely. Sure if you drive 100% perfectly and push the battery to zero, you might get that range, but who is ever going to do that? I consistantly get 470 charging mile range but never push it beyond 450 drivng mile range. Who drives their ICE to empty just to get stranded on the side of the road as though that is normal? No one. No one in the real world is going to do that in an EV either. Personal opinions should not be part of your review, but that said for the most part focusing on the range is exactly where the Air GT shines. To many tubers focus on the power and speed..who cares. I think your complaint about the fun factor and the sound of the engine is just a fear of adjusting to new tech....I'm sure some old timer thought that being pulled by a horse and hearing nature was far more better than hearing the sound of an engine on a ride. Get over it! Overall, a fairly good review, and you are exactly right, I got my Air GT in 2022 used with less than 500 (test drive miles), for cheaper than they are now new. But buyers need to be aware that the price of the vehicle isn't where it ends, Insurance will take a big bite out of your pocket as well! IMO, leasing is the best option right now for this unit. Good Luck and Take Care.
Drivers seating position front and rear seems not optimal: thigh are not supported knees are up in the air and you can not lift the seat since headroom is limited, trunk is not practical too, otherwise nice car .
The downside of the screens, in my opinion, is that they are too dim. If they either went with matte screen or 1500+ nits it would make all the fingerprints on screen non-issue.
Love the efficiency. Wish they would license their efficiency. Because they don't sell enough EV's to make a difference. In the first half of 2024 only sold 4361.
Lucid built the sedan first to purposely enter a low volume segment. You can't be an upstart EV company and right away start with a high volume SUV. I believe there were long waits to even get the expensive first run Airs.
If I drink 6 beers, I can sit in a sedan, and then the next day, I cannot even move out of bed. SUVs are for we peeps with spinal issues. If you never have low back pain, you will never understand.
well there you go, the range does not come out of outstanding technology but because they used biggest battery which also has to be charged therefore longer... this car looks amazing rides amazing it has nice range, but because it's just car for huge price also related to battery size, it will get ignored... yes, they should have make 1st model x like suv but their way, this car shines like sun but it's just as unreachable
The reason Lucid is kind of failing to make a big name for itself is because of the pricing. At $125K (as tested), it just doesn't stand out enough. If the Sapphire were $125K, now we're talking. For $150K+, people are thinking supercar or luxury. The Sapphire will perform like a supercar, but it doesn't look the part. It's a luxury liner, and while I think it looks marvelous, it doesn't have that big name sway like Rolls Royce or Bentley. Here's how to fix this Lucid. Bring the Sapphire down to $100K. Start the car at $50K. The GT you guys tested should be $75K. Also Tommy, I'd love to see how that Dreamdrive works if you guys get your hands on a Lucid again. I think the glass roof is cool too.
I rather have a sedan. The reason people got to crossovers or SUV is cuz thats all the manufacturers sell. Ives see crossovers with less space inside than my chevy cruze
How long will this car continue to operate without digital services provided by lucid in the backend should the company go under is a question thats more on my mind that the range 😅 sadly
You keep talking range. For most people it’s recharging time. I used to have jeep with a small tank and would only get about 250 per tank. But I could fill the tank in less than ten minutes. That means I could road trip it and I did quite a bit. It’s filling it, that’s the problem. People don’t want sit around a Walmart or whatever for 30 minutes to an hour.
They’re good cars only problem is it’s too expensive people aren’t buying these bc they’re sedans they’re not buying bc of price compared to a Tesla model 3 which is a lot cheaper
They use a CCS plug. Electrify America or others work well. It can charge faster at Electrify America than it could at a Tesla because they push more amps. Its Plug and Charge so just pull up and put in the cable and it starts charging in a few seconds

10:20 reason number 1028 that I love this car. lol
after watching. well I wasn't 100% wrong.
I wonder when this type of range and efficiency will trickle down into commuter cars.
@@Miata822 I wonder how those vehicles from lucid in the future will turn out. We will have to wait and see.
I much prefer cars over crossovers. Unfortunately, I'm not in the market for an expensive EV no matter what it is. This would be on my short list of what I would get if I could though.
Great looking car both. But that scenery stole the show. Stunning. Not been to Colorado but it reminded me a bit of Banff/ Jasper.
The next gen leaf is coming out in 6-9 months. It will likely have a 70+kwh pack
One of the reasons it has a good consumption is the fact it's a sedan. As an SUV it would be much worse.
Lucid claims Gravity will do over 400 miles!!!
The way Roman sits on the edge of Lucid Air would be much more convenient to to sit while frontgating on the edge of frunk in a Lucid Gravity.
LA to Florida road trip?
You guys should do a 1000 mile or so trip with a comparable gas luxury car. Consider convenience, cost to drive etc. For price, this really does seem a good vehicle gas or electric. Would it really be something a person looking for that class of vehicle could cross shop? Maybe even use the least expensive model available & it's gas powered equivalent.
It's freaking amazing then you look at how much it costs 😂😂 I hope the Lucid Gravity will be a gamechanger for them they know how to build amazing cars
Great video, great car. I agree it's a good value, but for the price it should include the best ADAS that Lucid can deliver.
Most people don't need SUVs to go to the mall, school runs and work
Starts at $70K.
Expensive Koolaid
It's like driving a house at $125k lol
Wow, not much traffic on the Loveland pass it seems from your video. Very enjoyable video.
Looks great. I’ll have one with an Audi Biturbo diesel thanks.
Exterior and interior styling make the Lucid worthy of the EV price tag. Above average range helps too.
There is a big difference between a crossover and an suv. This should have more attention to it. The idea that people are calling a cross over an suv is misleading and will get people stuck
Delorean movie fast! I love it!
I would get a Lucid Air if I could buy it here in Finland.
You can
@@Oregonwildman1 It is not offially sold in Finland so theres not any kind service for the car either. Of course I can import it but the closest service centers would be in Norway or Netherlands
This is a very nice car just expensive . It’s not well known and the first generation , hopefully in a few years it will still be in business.
At $125K for a Lucid it's no wonder the drug trade is so prolific - how else can some one afford this vehicle.
When does your Lucid get delivered?
I make 96k a year and I can't afford this thing. Sales tax and fees all in about $140k for the Lucid. Could buy 3 Tesla 3's. Not sure what the demographics is for this vehicle is but wow.
@@johnfbm And I could be a narc.
Nope I know a troll when I see one.
@@johnfbm So you're looking in the mirror, that takes guts based on your picture.
I'd be concerned about support, updates, repairs, parts, longetivity....and charging of course
Brief experiences with an early adopter-grade EV make for great fun. But reliability and quality of service for a Lucid are a big question mark, especially when you're comparing to an established brand like Mercedes.
Mercedez in the 80s were reliable, today they are scrap yard cars once they pass 100k miles today
I have a sedan and will most likely buy another next.
The best and most mature EV. Unfortunately it doesn’t sell well enough.
Drivers seating position front and rear seems not optimal: thigh are not supported knees are up in the air and you can not lift the seat since headroom is limited, trunk is not practical too, otherwise nice car .
it also costs a lot of money for what it is also a major set back
The downside of the screens, in my opinion, is that they are too dim. If they either went with matte screen or 1500+ nits it would make all the fingerprints on screen non-issue.
Love the efficiency. Wish they would license their efficiency. Because they don't sell enough EV's to make a difference. In the first half of 2024 only sold 4361.
They are going to go under...
They're licensing their tech. First deal was Aston and working on one with Hyundai.
"I love the front end..."
Apparently Hyundai does too, because they pretty much put it on the 2024 Sonata...
That thing is impressive on mileage
Lucid is nice, wonder why it doesn't attract Mercedes drivers? But wait where is the FSD?
Fake Self Driving is a Tesla/Musk exclusive.
Its getting a lot bette
I’m from Canada loved the show I was unable to enter the raffle , there was no where for Canadian entry 😢
Gotta wonder if you would have regenned more power with a lower state of charge?
I rather have a sedan. The reason people got to crossovers or SUV is cuz thats all the manufacturers sell. Ives see crossovers with less space inside than my chevy cruze
The real question is..........where is Tommy's watch?
How long will this car continue to operate without digital services provided by lucid in the backend should the company go under is a question thats more on my mind that the range 😅 sadly
Only way to perfect is to make it a wagon with lift suspension.
Roman, it was you that said no shorts?
ill take a sedan over a suv
You keep talking range. For most people it’s recharging time. I used to have jeep with a small tank and would only get about 250 per tank. But I could fill the tank in less than ten minutes. That means I could road trip it and I did quite a bit. It’s filling it, that’s the problem. People don’t want sit around a Walmart or whatever for 30 minutes to an hour.
FYI: it charges crazy fast!
Air first is brilliant thinking. Lucid will not be able to handle Gravity production as their Factory was under construction
Peter rawlinson has achieved something that Tesla hasn't in its efficiency , and Tesla won't be able to, even with upcoming, if lucky, 4680 cells.
Would love to see Chevy bolt and Nissan leaf videos
Sedan vs SUV, who cares. I want a car that's not $250,000
They’re good cars only problem is it’s too expensive people aren’t buying these bc they’re sedans they’re not buying bc of price compared to a Tesla model 3 which is a lot cheaper
Compared to the Ioniq 6 tge trunk space is good
What charging system do they use can they use a Tesla quick charge?
They use a CCS plug. Electrify America or others work well. It can charge faster at Electrify America than it could at a Tesla because they push more amps. Its Plug and Charge so just pull up and put in the cable and it starts charging in a few seconds
Thd best Ev in market
That trunk looks like a giant mouth!😂😂
Price and charging network. Beautiful, but...
They could have made that a hatchback so easily...
If it was powered by a hydrogen fuel cell that would be (30 * 36) ÷ 155.9 = 6.93 grams of hydrogen per mile
I want a sedan. 🙃
