- Tens of thousands of Scottish independence supporters have marched through Glasgow in the first of a series of protests planned for the months ahead. Prime Minister Boris Johnson won enough seats to get Brexit through at last month’s general elections, but the Scottish Nationalist Party has also swept the votes in Scotland and is calling for an independent EU member Scotland. Mehmet Solmaz has this report.

And how about for the 1746 Dress Act that banned tartan, part of a sustained attempt by the British government in Westminster to ethnically cleanse the Highlands and eliminate Gaelic culture. Let's not forget how England tried putting Trident nuclear submarines at the Faslane naval base, thus once more transforming blameless parts of Scotland into a nuclear target. Perhaps in retrospect they should have put them nearer London. what's more, for the 2012 Olympics. We know we paid for quite a lot of it and that most of it took place in London or nearby. With hindsight they can see that taking billions of the nation's taxes and paying them to huge civil engineering firms that build luxury flats that push up London house prices and fatten profits for property developers and local estate agents wasn't fair. If they'd been Scottish, they'd have been quite annoyed. I could write forever about the English abnormalities ! But I think you got the idea , for sure!

It is neither the right or the gift of the English dominated UK government to grant a referendum. It would be also very foolish for the English to again go down the road of trying to prevent yet another country expelling their control. They lost badly every time and suffered great financial loss. Most recently in their failed attempt to keep Catholic Northern Irish out of democratic power in Ulster. There a much smaller population fought them for over 30 years with the UK finally being forced to negotiate a peace despite their military and resources.
Against the Scots a population over 10 times that and with England's weak government and self inflicted fragile economy, trying to hold Scotland by force would cause irrecoverable damage. Scotland is unlike Catalonia, a known entity with a great deal of sympathy and allegiance around the World. Politically (UK)England is seen as an extension of the USA, along with many committed enemies and former victims of it's own looking for retribution.
There are many who would support Scotland for other than positive reasons. The USA owes it's very existence to that fact. Where the Americans looked to France and Holland, the Scots can look to all of Europe, Russia, China, India and probably all of the former British Empire.
And the UK knows that.

Not necessarily. Viz the Czech Republic, who's flag was a meld of the Czech flag and the Slovak flag. Post seperation the Czechs kept the old flag (including the Slovak blue) as a record of their history.

Street protesting is stupid in the Modern Age, and I suppose it's something to do at least you don't have to worry about them imposing martial law in Scotland. Personally I advocate for General National strikes at home without Street protesting in combination with buyers strikes, anywhere that the Jesuit order fascism and tyranny and Corruption is out of control. Tyranny by minority., under any true Constitution should be met by a hopefully peaceful military coup and tribunals. Remember the Carnation revolution in Portugal 1974 which expelled fascism with a virtually peaceful coup
What we in Scotland are facing IS the tyranny of the minority. We had a democratic ballot in 2014 which resolved this question but the losers refuse to accept it.

Two campaign groups the "National Party of Scotland" and the "Scottish Party" were formed in the 1880s to seek Dominion status like Canada and Australia. When the UK government reneged on the promise made in 1912 they went on to join as the SNP. Only the WW1 / 2 wars an Labour's rise in the post WW2 period placated Scots. Even still a 1950s petition demanding Home Rule gained 1.5 million signatures in a time before TV and the internet.

The union is obviously no longer viable. Westminster has failed and will end if Scotland and Northern Ireland part ways. Instead we'll be left with a Kingdom of England and Wales, and a council of ministers, not like Westminster, but ministers who work for the regions of England and Wales.
Obviously i think the country of the United Kingdom should stay together, but i realise it's inevitable that it will eventually break up. This could be a greater opportunity for England and Wales in the long run though, even a strengthened England and reform that it has so very needed. An English council instead of a parliament sounds very attractive.

What some people tend to miss is that if an independent Scotland were part of the EU, there would be a huge migration from England of manufacturing industry driven by companies wanting tariff free access to the EU market using an English speaking workforce. The financial services sector would follow (in a smaller scale) in due course. England has a lot to lose here and should not assume that an independent Scotland would be of no economic consequence.
If the EU let them in. It would takes years, Scotland would be screwed by then.
They are already moving up to Scotland now.
