I really like the "edginess" in this game, hearing sonic cuss blew my mind whenever I was younger. I love the alternate sides to characters, it makes it addictive to see how they end up. I really wish sega would create another game related to shadow the hedgehog, nothing more fun than fucking up alien monsters and demolishing the good guys.

There's a reason we make fun of this game for its 'damn' diologue, and it's not just because it's petty swearing coming from the mouths of sonic characters. It's because it's unimpactful petty swearing that has no significant difference in the tone or expression of the characters. They just threw it around to try to make the game more edgy, but tbh it was the guns, the music, and the themes that really made it edgy. Not the damn swearing.
So “damn” was said 13 times in this game! Besides this, there are several instances of swear words in this sonic Franchise such as “Crap”, “s***” and “ass” (that word was said multiple times in the fleetway Sonic the comic, one or two of the times was said by Tails).
First two "damn"'s should be moved down a tier. Maybe they stick more because they're heard during gameplay, but they're definitely not as powerful as the Commander's "damn"'s to be in the same tier. Even though "Damn, not here...!" is a standout quote & one of my favorites, it's the second half that wraps it up & really elevates it, more so than the "Damn" itself. Espio's strong "Damn" & Shadow's sinister "I'm going to destroy this damn planet!" definitely need to be bumped up a tier. They're certainly as good, if not better (Shadow's line here in particular), than the "damn"'s Shadow says during regular gameplay. Sonic's "Damn" should automatically be in the "Damn Straight" tier, because if he's saying it, you know shit's fucked.
I just realized why Shadow is always exasperated when looking for the 4th Emerald. It’s quite simple: finding the Emerald in the stage is often the neutral path for each stage that has one. He’s annoyed at both the Hero and Dark reps and really, *really* just wants to get on the neutral route already
Giving a hedgehog a gun isn't enough, make him swear! Only let him use damn instead of other profane words to keep the E10+ rating! -Sega during the time of development with Ow The Edge
I get it now. I was confused before, but I get it now. Shadow's thing is blocking out help from the people around him. He's been 'damming up' the bespoke river of his relationships. Every mention of the word here is a commentary on that. What a relief. So much of this time I thought this was just a way to appeal to kids who thought cursing was cool.
Sega recently made a video ranking the 10 best moments of Shadow. Not only they didn't put "where's that damn fourth chaos emerald" on the list, when they presented the #4 place they said "where's that DARN fourth Shadow moment". I feel robbed.
Imagine if Shadow is trying to find the chaos emeralds in the next sonic movie and says his legendary line. That would be amazingly hilarious. But I doubt that will happen.
I dunno, I could see them slipping in something like "Where's that DAMN blue hedgehog?", no way he won't say damn once. Undoubtedly they'll make a faker reference tho.
