    How about the duration of the batteries when using it wirelessly, how long is its duration

    • @elijahB
      @elijahB  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems to last a very long time!! Since I have had it, I haven't ever had to change the batteries yet so the battery life seems to be excellent!

  • @bloodwolf8879
    @bloodwolf8879 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Did you just plug in the guitar and it made sounds? or did you downloaded something on your pc? After plugging in the lights went on, but there was no sound. I don't know if something is broken or missing

    • @elijahB
      @elijahB  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello!! Yes, the keytar does require software to be used on the PC to make actual sound. Plugging it in without any software will power the keytar, turning the lights on, but it won't make any sound until you open up a piece of software. If you aren't sure what to use, I would search on Google for "Best free DAWs" which might have some up-to-date software that you can use! I don't use PC, I'm on Mac so I used Garageband at the time of making this video, but now I use Logic Pro X which are both for Mac only. But yeah if you do that Google search you should be able to find some good options for PC that will allow your keytar to make sound! Just make sure that the software you download (this type of software is called a DAW) supports something called MIDI input and you should be good to go! Let me know if you are able to get things up and running!

    Great review! Some questions though, perhaps for upcoming videos: 1) which sound VST plugg-ins do you use? 2) Is there a way of configuring the Keytar PADS to switch from different TRACKS or Sounds? Midi Mapping. It would be amazing to switch from different tacks when writing music and using it as a DAW play/record/track up/down control. I think it's possible but I don't know how. 3) How much do the batteries last? Can you connect it to D/C as well?

    • @elijahB
      @elijahB  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Thanks so much - I'm glad you liked it!! To answer those questions:
      1. For all of the songs in this video, (and the majority of my music at its current state) I use stock plugins (mostly Alchemy) from Logic Pro X. So no separate VSTs on their own!
      2. I am almost positive that it is possible to map those pads on the keytar to any function imaginable, within the restraints of the DAW that you're using. For example, I'm not sure how to in Logic, but with Mainstage, I've used the pads to trigger patch changes by assigning the pads to certain values inside of the Preset Editor that the Vortex comes with, and then calling up those values back in Mainstage to assign them to functions. Kind of a long and tedious process, but it does work! Again, of course depending on the flexibility of your DAW.
      3. This is a FANTASTIC question!! On battery, unfortunately, I cannot testify to how long it lasts. Even in online forums, it seems as though people just don't know because it really just doesn't seem to die. For context - from since I got the keytar until now, I haven't changed the batteries once! You have the option to use the USB/MIDI cable to connect it to the computer directly, therefore bypassing the need for batteries, but also meaning it obviously isn't wireless anymore. The power switch for the keytar has three states: off, battery, and USB. Just flick to the one you want and you're off to the races!
      Hope this helped!! If you've still got questions or want my to clarify something, ask away! 👍

    • @elijahB
      @elijahB  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man - so glad you liked it!! The performance of the keytar isn't dependant on the computer necessarily - if your computer can run any other MIDI controller on your music making software (DAW) of choice, then this keytar should work just fine with whatever you've got!

    Love the skills man! Keep up the creativity! I also had a question about the Keytar! I just bought one and all the programs seem so confusing! I also can’t find all the cool presets everyone is using on all these TH-cam videos! Any advice you can give me that would help me out? Also do you have any experience with using it through an iPad? I have both a MacBook and iPad but I’d like to use the iPad if It’s pretty much the same! Thank you for the vid man! I’ll mostly be using this Keytar in worship music so it gives you an idea of what I’m looking for!

    • @elijahB
      @elijahB  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey dude!! Thanks so much!
      I used my Mac in this video to connect the keytar to with Logic Pro X, but GarageBand, Mainstage, or anything like that works too! As for an iPad, I don't know from experience as I don't have one, but I would imagine that if you got the right adapter, like lighting to USB, it should work with apps like the mobile version of GarageBand! I know I've seen other MIDI controllers in action on the iPad, so I'm sure this would be no different - as long as you get that adapter to go from USB to lightning!
      Totally let me know if you have any more questions!

    • @nathancaleb21
      @nathancaleb21 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Elijah! What about presets and other sounds? Where are you getting them from?

    • @elijahB
      @elijahB  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nathancaleb21 this is a bit confusing, so let me know if I need to explain it better! So the keytar itself actually has no presets, or any sound at all, but instead connects to the computer through MIDI, which basically means that when you press a note on the keytar, it's sending a signal to the Mac and your software like GarageBand (or whatever you're using) and tells it to generate a sound. In other words, the computer is generating the sounds, not the keytar! This is cool because it means that this keytar has an endless amount of patches that can be played with it!
      I hope I explained that alright! For more details, do a quick Google search for "MIDI" - somebody there might be able to explain that better, haha!

      Thank you!! Ooh, that's a good question. I've played this only using computers, but I have tried a couple different pieces of software and everything has worked right for me! I wish I had a way to test it out for you but I don't have an iPad or iPhone. I would think that everything should be mapped and recognized correctly on iOS, but I can't say for sure! Hi Elijah, this is an amazing video! I'm very new to the keytar and midi stuff so I have a question. How exactly do the sounds work? Does this keytar come with built in sounds, or do you have to program them in? If so, how would I program them in? Sorry for all the questions, I look forward to your feedback!

    • @elijahB
      @elijahB  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi YSG! Thank you so much!! So the keytar does not produce any sound on it's own, nor does any other MIDI controller. The way that you use this keytar to produce sound, is you plug it in or use wirelessly with a Digital Audio Workstation or DAW, and the DAW itself produces the sound. The Vortex Wireless 2 comes with some software that can be used with it for sure, (but I had my own already so I didn't use any of it!) but you can look online to see what it comes with in the box. Anyways I hope this has helped - let me know if you have any more questions!!

    Very cool presentation, I have really enjoyed seeing a cool and good looking guy showing up with arguably the best keytar on the market. Having said that I believe that the keytar is taking away the main capacity of the keys player - their ability with two hands and sustain and other pedals to make the band sound full and sophisticated, something hardly achievable without the good keys player and gear. Playing along with the backing track with another keyboard sound only justifies my point. You are either a live band or a DJ - there is nothing in-between. Thanks for the video.

    Elijah those sounds you are using I like every one of them. What plug in do you use for sounds? I like Alchemy and Nexus my go to for now and some built in sounds in the DAW as well. I use Live. Have Logic too but like Live better

    • @elijahB
      @elijahB  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gotcha - and thanks so much! Every single track in this video was made with all default patches from Logic - most of which are Alchemy. Believe it or not, most of these tracks were made in GarageBand with the default GarageBand sounds, actually! After using GarageBand for so long, I switched to Logic of course!

    • @keytarmusic1951
      @keytarmusic1951 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. DAW sounds always have some gems. I never used Logic X. maybe now the undo function works after tweaking plugin? One reason i prefer Live is I can undo the plugin tweaks. That is very useful especially at the post production stage.

    • @elijahB
      @elijahB  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ohh I get what you're saying! I think you might be right about that still, but I can't think of whether it still happens or not off the top of my head actually! The reason I moved to Logic was just because it was the logical (pun totally intended) move coming from GarageBand, which I'd used since I was about 11!

    • @elijahB

      Hey! No, the instruction books included with the keytar are only user manual type booklets. The keytar itself also has no sounds onboard, so it is only playable by using a DAW like GarageBand, Logic Pro, Ableton, and more!

    Hey! I’m very new and want to get one just got some quick questions. What program should I use on PC? Yo!! That's awesome that you picked one up. It's totally up to you on what program to want to use on PC - there's Pro Tools, FL Studio, Ableton and more, all with their advantages and disadvantages! Definitely do some research to see which one you want to get! In theory, you should be able to map the pads on the keytar to any function, depending on the program you have - so extra research on the specifics of each program would be good also! I hope this helps - let me know what program you end up deciding on! Happy keytar-ing! 🤙

      @elijahB  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@criscpz you bet!! And that's awesome!! I use mine at church quite a bit with Mainstage with it on my Mac. I'm not super familiar with many music-making programs outside of Logic and Mainstage since those are the only two that I've had, but something like FL Studio and those others might be trickier to use live - I recommend checking around to see if anyone has done it! For samples and patches from Hillsong Y&F, I'm not sure if there is a specific source to get them from, but I do know that many patches in those songs come from a plugin called Omnisphere, which is awesome! The downside to that, is Omnisphere is kind of pricey, so I haven't got it yet - I've just done my best to recreate many of the patches for my own use! I’ve got a question for you, since you seem to know a lot more about this than I do! I just got a keytar for Christmas, after looking into them for months and months. Problem is, I can’t figure out how to map out the keytar the way I’d like it. The Alesis Vortex Wireless 2 Preset Editor comes with very very little instruction, and leaves me completely lost.

    • @elijahB
      @elijahB  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, I hope you had a great Christmas! Yeah, the preset editor is pretty confusing! For me to map it, I haven't used the editor much, (unless I wanted to change the color of the pads!) but instead, used my DAW to do it - in this case Logic! Now there were a few times where I did use the editor, because I didn't know how to use Logic to accomplish what I wanted: when I wanted to assign the pads to different notes, I just changed the "note" value inside of the editor until I got the note I wanted! I don't understand what the number means, so it was kind of a guess-and-check type of thing! Anyways, I hoped this helped!! Let me know if you have any more questions! 👍

      Ah no, not out of the box - the keytar actually makes no sound without something that can control it, as it is a MIDI controller. If the computer or device that you use to control the keytar can output to an amp like a computer, then your possibilities for outputs are endless!
