    Daisy, I got into making masks when this whole COVID thing happened. Through lots of trial and error, I came up with my own pattern. I came across your video-with the skull faces, and I am making my masks so similarly to yours, however, you are a much better seamstress than I. I am in the process of trying your pattern and will post a pic when done.
    I just got on the comments things and saw that there were dislikes! Let me tell all those people, you are out of your minds! As I started to say, this is the first time using a sewing machine since the seventh grade so I’m learning how to use the machine as well as making a machine. Daisy has been overly kind to offer her patters as well as for those who don’t have a printer, gives the coordinates in inches and centimeters. Who does this? I’ll tell you who, someone who cares that people watching her and taking her invitations to print her patterns, etc. Daisy, your mask is one if not the BEST I have seen. You make them with the correct amount of protective fabric pieces, it fits correctly, CDC states fit is the most important factor. Anyway, wanted to say thanks for the time and for sharing your pattern. I’m going to find your Facebook page and post my pic there!

    With the pandemic, most businesses prefer non cash transactions. This means not many of us are carrying small bills or coins. This has left the poor and homeless, who depend on pan handling for survival. So instead, I have been sewing 3 layer masks since March, and giving them to people who call the streets home, here in Ottawa, Ontario.

    Thank you very much for the video and free pattern. I am definitely a novice and was able to make the masks without issues. I used the pipe cleaner, which I really like. I used the small pattern to cut a filter to insert into the pocket. My filter is made of unbleached coffee filter, 1 sheet notebook paper, 1 dinner napkin - 3 layers. When finished I have a 6 layered mask. I did add about 2 inches to the bottom of the large pattern (chin area) to cover my husband’s entire face and beard, his face is more long than round and needed to account for that. We prefer to secure around the head vs. ears - the bands kept curling over on our ears. Your instructions are 10/10!. Thanks again!, great video. Stay safe!

    Thank you so much for sharing your instructions for free. I have been making masks for teacher friends of mine and others' children, with fabrics I already had at home. As my husband has had little work since NZ's first lockdown and I am a teacher aide, so school is closed owing to the latest lockdown, we don't have one cent to spare. A lot of friends have given us excess vegetables and fruit etc from their gardens, so this has been a way that I can do them a favour in return, that doesn't cost us any money. Very kind and generous of you, in a time when many others are making money off the situation, regardless of the needs of others, and often hiking prices because of the shortages, which I find completely immoral. Great instructions, too. I like the way that the video is real time, so you can get an idea of how long it takes to make each one. Thank you, thank you, thank you.x

    Hello Daisy! this is the best pattern I've found. I really appreciate your hard work. I have found that for smaller women, the small is a bit too small but the medium is too large, so I have taken the medium pattern and cut off the seam allowances on the 2 straight edges, which shrimps it down just enough for my smaller friends. I have made close to 150 of them Build your mask with scrap starter fabric bits to conserve on thread. Which in my business is a consideration to not waste thread. I have built this pattern first in my travels but find the other to be less fuzzy. I have modified it and use jewelry wire inserted after the edge seams are sewn and befor I turn over the ear folds. 🇨🇦

    Dear,
    Million thanks to you. We have used your design and template and until now we have made more than 100 masks and we have been distributing these masks for free to our neighbours, vegetable vendors and cleaners in our area.
    As this has helped us, we are also sharing the link whoever is showing interest in making these.
    Just a small change from our side, as we wanted more universal masks. For ear hooks design we needs to have a measurement of person. So instead we made four stripes and stiched instead of earhooks.
    It's working really great for us. Again, many thanks to you!

  • @janemartin229
    @janemartin229 4 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    You did a great job--these are really nice. If you would hold onto your thread tails when you first start sewing you wouldn't get those little thread nests. Another trick used by quilters is to use a little scrap piece of fabric at the beginning to catch the tails, leaving a little space between scrap and your project so you can cut them apart.

    • @ams20518
      @ams20518 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Please explain, I'm not understanding? YOu use a scrap in between each mask? At the beginning and end? THx in advance?

    • @mattesarcasm291
      @mattesarcasm291 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Amber Smith She means that quilters use a scrap piece of fabric to lead into the actual sewing piece, so that the little bunches of thread aren’t there.
      It’s not easy to explain in text. But imagine you’re sewing around an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper-for size and example. The scrap piece of paper you’re going to use is a post-it. So. When you start sewing (and only then), you going to place the post-it right in front of the sheet of paper, start sewing the post-it, then continue your sewing on to the sheet of paper. The post-it takes the abrupt start of the machine, and gets the tangled tails instead of your work. Then you just snip the threads right between the post-it and the paper, to separate the scraps.
      I hope this makes sense. If you look up videos of quilters, they do it all the time-they may not explain.

    This is one of my favorite designs for fit. Because I am lazy. I resorted to gluing the pattern prints to pieces of cardboard from a cereal box and use it to trace onto the fabrics instead of clipping. It seams to come out accurately enough. I also make sure I extend out the elastic channel side about a 1/2 inch so the elastic will fit better, even so I still have to use a hemostat to pull the elastic trough sometimes.

Its so sad that some People in our society charge so much for Face masks. It just goes to show you, when there's a Natural Disaster or Pandemic , the Good, Bad and the Ugly comes out of People who want to call themselves ' Business Folk' want to inflate the prices of Necessary Medical supplies and household cleaning supplies, toilet paper and Hand sanitizer. Just to name a few. Thank you for making this simple. I want to be a Blessing to Anyone that I come in contact with. This is going to be a way to give back to so many people. I am not a seamstress, but I've already reorganized my house twice and it is being kept as clean as it has ever been. My mom is a critical worker at a fruit warehouse and just now they've started requiring masks for them. We had some single use and bought some reusable ones. Thanks for the tutorial! I will try hand sewing some of these!

    Thank you for the tutorial video. I haven't sewn in 5 years and I finally got the machine out and this is my first time doing a mask. I used some foam fusible interfacing around the nose and upper cheeks and it really helped with the glasses fogging up. I had to refer back to you video a few times in the process but I finally got it! . I think once I get the hang of it things will be much easier and I thank you!

      My son wears glasses, and will be heading back to school soon so I’m going to try your idea with the foam fusible interfacing. Have you found a brand that works best? Are you able to ha d was them without messing up the foam. I’m a beginner, but have to do what I can to make him comfortable wearing the mask for 6 hours a day. 🤓 Thanks for any suggestions or advice you care to share.
